NewBeauty TestTube is a bi-monthly beauty and makeup subscription box. Every other month they send you a tube full of deluxe and full-size beauty samples and you also get a digital subscription to NewBeauty Magazine. It’s a little pricier than other beauty subscriptions, but in general, the value is usually great.

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out our editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes.)

First Impressions

This packaging is so cute! I love the colors and that all of the products fit neatly inside. This month, not everything fit into the tube.

The Products

LivOn Labs Lypo-Spheric Glutathione, 30 packets – Retail Value $74.95

This dietary supplement works to raise your glutathione levels and helps increase T cell count for optimal immune health. According to their site, glutathione absorption supports a healthy liver and healthy immune system, supports cellular health, and protects cells from free radical damage. You can take one or two of these single-dose packets daily. I got a few tips and tricks on how to take this from last month's box item from this brand, so we gave it a try: we took the packet like a shot and chased it with a juice. Boy, I really wish that had helped. I think the smell of this packet is really what got me, and the taste was just very strange as well. I am all for treating my body to help keep it strong and healthy, but I just wish these were slightly more enjoyable to take.

OnMi Energy Support Patch, 4 patches – Retail Value $12

These patches are meant to give you energy for 12 hours without any added caffeine, sugar, or jitters. It is hypoallergenic and free from latex, parabens, gluten, and dye. My husband and I decided to apply our patch the day after daylight savings when we were both feeling super tired. I really wish I could say that I noticed a difference, but both of us checked in after about 10 hours and didn't really notice a difference in our energy levels. Maybe I need to try it again? Has anyone had any luck with these patches? Let me know in the comments!

Davids Sensitive + Whitening Peppermint Premium Toothpaste – Retail Value $9.95

This toothpaste is something that I've received a few times over the years in subscriptions. I am really weird about textures, especially with toothpaste, and I just have never gotten over how grainy this toothpaste feels. It has a really nice peppermint flavor, but I also find that I never get a super deep clean feeling that lasts when I use it compared to the other toothpaste that I use. This is obviously way better to use than my normal toothpaste, as it offers a recyclable metal tube and clean ingredients. It is always handy to have an extra tube of toothpaste, though, so even though this isn't my favorite, I will definitely use it.

LUXIE 530 Flat Top Kabuki Rose Gold – Retail Value $23

I am always happy to receive a new makeup brush! My foundation brush that I am obsessed with really is on its last life, so I was happy to try a new brand to see if it holds up to the one I currently have. This brush is made with synthetic bristles and has a larger flat top so you can achieve even, full coverage with your makeup application. This Kabuki brush was inspired by past Japanese drama actors and their dedication to their makeup—how cool! So far I am really loving how this brush is working with my liquid foundation application. I am able to cover more area, so I feel that it is going on smoother and more even without overusing any of my foundation.

Lights Lacquer Nail Lacquer – Retail Value $9.50

While this polish shade really isn't something that I would wear, it is going to get a lot of use from my daughter! She loves painting her nails and this is the perfect shade that I can apply quickly on her without worrying about it looking perfect, and she loves all of the shimmer and shine it gives her nails. For me, this is a highly pigmented shade that goes on really well, so I could see myself using it over a darker shade to add a little sparkle, especially during the holidays. You can easily use one coat of this polish and have great coverage or two to give it a more opaque look.

Sukin Hydrating Mist Toner, 4.23 fl oz. – Retail Value $9.99

I really appreciate that this toner is alcohol-free, and it does a great job hydrating my skin as the first step in my skincare routine. I have been using this as my base in the morning and at night, and my skin is loving it! The best part is that it seems to be working really well with my other products, which is a huge bonus. This toner is made with chamomile and rosewater to help soothe, purify, and cool your skin to really help awaken it. I am loving this right now, but I know I am going to get a ton of use out of it in the summer when my skin is hot and worn down from long days at the pool.

Peter Thomas Roth Peptide 21 Wrinkle Resist Eye Cream, 0.5 fl oz. – Retail Value $75

If you follow my reviews, you know that me and eye creams just don't seem to work. My eyes are so sensitive and it seems that every eye cream I have tried over the years causes irritation. The first day I tried this cream I felt okay, and I was so excited because I thought I finally found one that would work for me, but by the second day I was getting my usual build-up and burning. I did pass this along to my husband, though, who was in need of a new eye cream anyway and so far he is loving it! It is really helping to keep his eye area, which is usually fairly dry, looking smooth and hydrated. This cream is really interesting because it is made with 21 Peptides and Neuropeptides, 2 Gamma Proteins, 5% Regu®-Age, and 3% Reforcyl®. It works to fight the signs of aging all while hydrating that super-sensitive eye area.

Verdict

This NewBeauty TestTube has a $214.39 value, wow! I really loved the variety that this month's box brought! Receiving the makeup brush and the nail polish felt a bit different and are both products that I know I will get a lot of use out of. Especially the nail polish for my daughter, which she is really loving. The toner is a great product to add to my skincare routine, and since it is alcohol-free, it is working really well with my sensitive skin. While the eye cream didn't work for me, I was able to pass it along to my husband who really benefits from an eye cream. The LivOn Labs and the toothpaste fell a bit short for me, but they both really are wonderful products from incredible brands.

this is a new susbscription: Its my first subscription and I already regret it. Customer service is so bad, box is not shipped as promised. Got three different answers to my question from customer service. Wow, this is horrible. Plus you can’t see the items before they purchase. So basically, you are not only dealing with horrible customer service but also paying money for mysteries.

Here it is the beginning of May and the New Beauty/Testtube site has no info on the May box. I’m beginning to regret my subscription due to delays with shipping and their new policy of no spoliers. Not all of their boxes are winners and people should have the right to skip, considering the repeats such as toothpaste and facial mists. I’m no no longer getting text alerts for their Friday deals either. Hoping their poor customer service hasn’t run it into the ground. Still owed 11 boxes.

Not surprised Annette. Still no word on the May box on their website. Their customer service ran it into the ground. I should have known when they stopped the spoilers that something was up. They hang up on customers or put you on long holds. I’ll have to report this to my bank in order to get my money back. They suck.

I am in love with the Sukin Mist. I have tried a lot of other mists, and this one works really well for me. I use it after I wash my face, or just through out the day, to bring my face back to life. I will re buy this on my own.

I have to say I actually really loved this box. As of late I’m overloaded on beauty items, so I really appreciate the variety in the tubes. The liposomal packets have been AMAZING! I’ve noticed such a difference in my energy levels too! What is really funny is when I take them, you add the packet to a shot glass of water (don’t mix it), and my dog always runs over to beg for it. She thinks it’s a churu treat. I let her smell it and then she’ll turn away in disgust lol. The eye cream has been great! Box was a huge winner for me! Thanks!

I wish they would stop sending the LivOn vitamin things. They are gross and I can’t stand the texture.

I disagree! I love the packets. Yes they taste horrible, but they have shown such an amazing impact on my day to day energy levels. It is unreal! I like the idea of being able to sample all the different liposomal formulations 🙂 I’d be over the moon if they cycled through all various forms. I’m overloaded on beauty/makeup right now, especially wfh and not going into the office!

Boxes such as test tube are a crapshoot for lack of a better term. I personally don’t like shelling out money for items I may or may not use, but sometimes good discoveries can be made! If a person isn’t willing to win some and lose some, then probably subscribing to such a box isn’t a good idea.

I absolutely agree with you on this! Not every month is going to be amazing, and it might be 3 months of so so stuff, but to me if I get at least a few things out of it that are truly great I see the value.

This is a far cry from their box with the $122 Sunday Riley serum. Miss those days. Hoping for better boxes from them soon!

You forgot to add in the $10 shipping when calculating price per item. It seems like they have a deal with a couple suppliers and they just keep repeating their products.

Reply ButtonReply

Taren Winskye

Correct. It’s a $50 box. It’s not fair to the other boxes who include shipping that already have it in their cost. They do repeat brands over and over again,(grande anyone?) so after many years I canceled. I still buy various specials from them occasionally but the customer service is abysmal.

I’ll use the toothpaste as it’s one that I’ve used in the past and the peppermint is the only flavor I like in this brand. The brush may get some use one day. Everything else in the tube is a wash. I am spoiled with my annual Laurel and Reed, Beasty Heroes and Boxwalla. Not slamming NBTT but they do tend to throw in useless fillers to meet the dollar “value”. In reality, it’s only value if you will use it.

I have to say that I don’t think I’m the most difficult person in the world to make happy, and I very, very rarely complain on this site or anywhere else regarding receiving a very disappointing subscription box. I do have to make an exception here. This was the absolute worst test tube I have ever received. The last several weren’t exactly outstanding, but this particular one was extremely awful. The dietary supplement that everyone hates, and is really sick of receiving from this company with every tube has a RV of $75.00. That’s over one third of the total RV of the entire tube. The horrid toothpaste is another constant repeat that no one seems to like. That nail polish? I don’t even know what to say about that! “Energy Patches”? What sort of hocus pocus is that supposed to be? Nobody every has any luck with these patches simply because they don’t work. I’ll end my rant with the biggest insult of all, to every woman here, as far as I’m concerned. The toner. The Sukin hydrating mist toner. I’m not saying that there is anything particularly wrong with this product, but I did receive the EXACT SAME product in my WINTER WalMart, $7.00 box! You’ve really got to be kidding me. At the beginning of this review it stated, ” It’s a little pricier than other beauty subscriptions, but in general, the value is usually great.” Taryn, I really do appreciate all of your reviews. You are wonderful, and a very positive person. I do have to disagree about the overall value of this tube, however. This is a disgrace.

Taryn Lowman

Thanks so much for your feedback! My value in my verdict really focuses on the high retail value that the products ring in. I agree, this box had a lot of misses, but being relatively new to this box I haven’t really had a bad experience with it. This is probably the first blah box for me, but again I’m new to it so it wasn’t super alarming to me yet, but in another two or three months if this continues I might have a different POV in my verdict.

Haha! I’m hoping this glutathione is really good. That’s why I got the box. I was all set to purchase on Amazon for $59 and saw this and thought … ok… everything else is fine ..sadly I hear glutathione is like collagen, takes a few months … I haven’t had the tube in about 2 years… so back to skipping, I do enjoy some do the free Friday’s. I could open a store with my 2020 sub boxes alone! I watched several reviews of this box and it seems pretty hated! I’m going to take some to my PCP and say are you sure about lipsomal G? Lol

Melissa Baker

Hi Jan, I have to agree with pretty much everything you had to say. Fortunately I was able to see some spoilers just one day prior to my card being charged, and I got on the phone and canceled so fast! I’m so glad I didn’t have to pay for this tube. I agree that it has really gone downhill recently, and there are more and more repeats it seems. I don’t get it. I thought that this was supposed to be “NewBeauty,” as in cutting edge, new releases, not the same stuff over and over.

I don’t however, know why people complain about nail polish. It’s one of my fave items! However, everyone has their personal tastes (creme vs shimmer vs glitter, vs the many other finishes available), colors, etc. I think this is a nice versatile color that could be used on its own or over another polish, but I am so far down the nail polish rabbit hole that I probably wouldn’t just go out and buy this as I mostly buy indie brands now.

I was surprised to see such a positive summary in the review after it seemed like most of the products were a dud for Taryn, but it is nice that she acknowledged that just because something didn’t work for her doesn’t mean it couldn’t work for someone else, even someone in her own household.

Thanks so much for your feedback! While this box really didn’t blow me out of the water, I do see the value in what they are offering. Was it the best box ever? Nope, but I am still new to receiving this box so it didn’t feel super off for me. One bad box here and there is always to be expected. I know people that swear by that toothpaste so while it isn’t for me, I know a lot of people that would love to get it, so I think that is where I try to sort of say that I do still see the value of a lot of these products.

Here’s how to take the vitamin packets. Get fruit punch Capri sun(the reg kind not the rapid waters), squirt a about 3/4 off a shots worth into a cup and beat it with a fork like an egg for a few seconds. It will mix, even the vitamins C packet! Then swig it down and if needed chase with a sip of Capri sun. Trust me, it works!! I’m the type who can’t stand horrid taste mixed with strange textures but I know how good these are for my body so I tried everything& discovered this way by accident cuz I didn’t have any other juice in the house so I took a chance. But it doesn’t work with any other juice I’ve tried and only the fruit punch really helped mask the taste of each packet. Enjoy! 👍😁

I put a swig of Bai drink in a cup and add their C and B. Now I’ll add the Glutathione as well. I’ve been meaning to try this one and voila, it arrived in my TestTube. To each his own — I like the eye cream (using up one I received a few months ago and will then use this one), the toothpaste is fine, my g’daughter will love the polish. I like the toner. I wasn’t disappointed this month.

I love LivOn Labs and I’m just fill half a shot glass with water, squeeze the product in and shoot it without even tasting it and then take a drink of water. I may try the Capri Sun, I don’t think I’ll beat it but I’ll definitely chug it 😊
