First Impressions

My typical white box arrives beautifully packaged.

Included were helpful cards and a booklet with loads of details about the products this month from Activist. We were sent three honey-focused formulas.

The Products

Mānuka Honey Mask 850+ MGO, 80 mL - Retail Value $65

Something about a honey mask feels, well, like spring! So this was a welcome arrival here in PA where we keep popping back and forth from ice to sunny warm days. The longing for spring is real! Honey is also a great ingredient for skin. It is moisturizing, anti-inflammatory, and it is also beneficial for fighting acne. So, if you are like me, dry but also prone to weird random zits on your jawline, it somehow manages to be beneficial for two issues generally at opposite ends of the spectrum. That being said, honey can benefit literally anyone! This metal tube has one thing inside: raw Manuka honey. It's sticky, soothing, and really enjoyable! Because it can be a little messy, I liked applying this with a brush rather than my fingers. I felt like I used less. I left it on for 30 minutes then removed it with a warm towel. My skin was super soft, glowy, and less red. Because this is a 20-30 minute mask, I plan on saving this for my weekend pampering so I can really leave it on and enjoy it.

Green Botanical Face Serum, 30 mL - Retail Value $75

The end of winter is kind of a nightmare for a lot of us in terms of our faces. We have spent months being exposed to cold winds and also filling out homes with warm dry air from our heating systems. I can't tell you how many of my clients are complaining about dryness right now. An over-the-top moisturizing serum like this is a great option! It is filled with softening and moisturizing oils: linseed, kiwi seed, blue tansy, avocado, sweet almond, and sunflower. It also has antibacterial Manuka brand oil which makes this another product that can tackle a wide variety of skin issues, from dryness to acne. It has a beautiful herbal blue tansy sort of smell and absorbs easily despite its heavier ingredient list.

Raw Manuka Honey 100+ MGO, 12 oz - Retail Value $32

My last item was a little pot of edible Manuka honey! Now, if you loved the honey mask, there is no reason you couldn't also use this the same way. It is 100% pure honey! But the interesting thing here is the "100" rating on the front. This speaks to the amount of Methylglyoxal inside (in this case 100 mg per kg). What is Methylglyoxal? Honestly, I had to look it up! And the info wasn't exactly easy to understand. I literally had to Google "Why should I care about Methylglyoxal in honey?" and the benefits I am seeing are that it is anti-inflammatory, wound healing, and antibacterial. I am kind of a slacker when it comes to supplements and I am not sure I actually really do care here, but I do know this stuff is bomb in smoothies! And that is enough for me. Do any of you know about the benefits in an easier-to-understand sort of way? Sound off in the comments!

Verdict

Beauty Heroes was honey-centric this month and I loved it. The mask was probably my favorite. Something about slathering my face in exotic honey felt really great on an especially cold weekend. And if you send me something sweet to eat? You have my heart. The green oil was also was pretty much a dream for dry and/or winter-weary skin and I see it being in my rotation pretty regularly. The total value this month was $172, which is good for a $60 box. If you love honey or just need some dry skin relief, pick this one up!

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

Was hoping for a full skincare box. I do like Activist though.

This discovery surprised me. I didn’t think I would want it — I skip over the Activist brand regularly — but I really like it! It was exciting and different. I have already started adding the manuka honey to my yogurt for the same reason you said, I’m not great with supplements and hoping to reap some of those healthy benefits!

I believe you can spread Manuka honey directly on the wound to help with healing.
