First Impressions

Open Box for Bombay and Cedar Lifestyle Box Fall 2021

Hooray, my first Bombay & Cedar seasonal lifestyle box! A little delayed, since it is now winter but they seem to be working very hard to get back on schedule. I’m definitely rooting for them, and regardless of the timing, I was happy to see this box on my doorstep.

What's Inside The Box

The box arrives with a product card that lists the products and highlights some of the brands found within.

TOM & LUKE Snackaballs in Original Dark Chocolate, 99 g - Listed Value $6.99

I’ve tried one other flavor in the past but this was my first taste of Tom & Luke’s spin on chocolate, and I was pleasantly surprised. Does it taste like chocolate? Not exactly. But does it provide a nice substitution for anyone trying to direct their food choices in a more healthful way? Absolutely it does. As someone who isn’t the biggest fan of chocolate, the lack of the usual sickeningly sweet taste is a win for me. These snackaballs certainly have a much more ‘natural’ cocoa flavor, and with a light coconut flavor peeking through, it provides a unique experience. The mouthfeel is smooth with a nice bite to it, rather than hard and chewy like some similar products. I love that these are gluten-free and vegan and contain all-natural ingredients only. I’d pop as few as two or three of these little snackaballs in between meals, and I have to say, they really held me over. I consider myself to be a semi-healthy eater, or at least I try my best, so the fact that these really are all-natural, with no preservatives, is something I appreciate tremendously. I’ve tried a number of healthy snack alternatives through the years, and these rank pretty high on the list.

NEW CHAPTER Natural Supplements in Organic Elderberry Whole-Food Gummies, 60 pieces - Retail Value $24.00

Oooh, another edible product; how exciting! But more importantly, this one is also a natural, vegan product with no preservatives and sweetened exclusively with real fruit, so it’s a double win. These gummies are infused with a super-potent concentrated extract of black elderberry. The premise is simple: take two gummies daily to help boost immune support. I’m someone who’s usually a bit wary of taking supplements, so I tend to vet them thoroughly before ingesting. But I did not mind these supplements from New Chapter. These gummies have a nice consistency, not too squishy and not too tough. They didn’t stick to my teeth, which is nice. I don’t know about you, but a lot of the gummy supplements I’ve tried usually taste nasty to me, so I wasn’t expecting these to be any different. But surprise, surprise: they don’t taste like a mouthful of chemicals! They did, however, taste a bit like prunes to me, with a slight hint of berry mixed in. All in all, not bad and definitely palatable, even for me. Whether or not these will actually help boost my immune system, as someone immunocompromised I should take all the help I can get.

SYMBIOSIS Rose + Hyaluronic Acid Revitalizing Sugar Lip Scrub, 10 ml - Retail Value $86.00

I may be slightly more obsessed with my lips than the average person, and I love a good lip scrub. This Symbiosis sugar lip scrub is unique with a sort of gel texture to it. Some lip scrubs tend to exfoliate a bit too well and leave my lips feeling dry, no matter what lip balm or lip mask I apply immediately afterward. But this lip scrub is different because it exfoliates gently while moisturizing at the same time; basically a lip scrub and a lip mask in one. I’ve never had a lip scrub with this particular texture before, and I really enjoy it. The exfoliant consists of sugar micro-crystals, which are very gentle on the delicate skin of my lips. When I applied this to my lips and finished the initial scrubbing process, I left this on my lips for about a minute or two and then rinsed it off with warm water. The hyaluronic acid in this lip scrub/lip mask hybrid really did the job, and my lips felt super smooth yet plump, glowy, hydrated, and not at all irritated.

ORGANIC CUBE Foaming Hand Soap with Pump in Pink Grapefruit, 355 ml - Retail Value $32.00

I love receiving functional yet fashionable items like this in a subscription. Never thought I would describe a hand soap as being fashionable, but this one certainly is, with its sleek form and stainless steel pump. The brand suggests that washing your hands with this delightful foaming soap is like holding a fresh-cut grapefruit in your hands, and I have to admit, I’m inclined to agree. The scent is truly delicious and makes the soap even more enjoyable to use. What I really like about the scent is that it wasn’t created with artificial fragrance but instead derived exclusively from essential oils and herbs. I didn’t properly read the container before using this soap because on my first pump, I was shocked to see a foaming texture emerge. I love foaming hand soaps, and this one by Organic Cube is clearly high quality. The foam thoroughly cleansed my hands and left them feeling smooth and soft for an impressive amount of time. This is definitely not a soap that will dry out your hands after repeated use, and that is something to applaud especially during these trying times in the middle of a pandemic.

KATIE JACOBS So Much to Celebrate Hardcover - Listed Value $29.99

This hardcover book from Katie Jacobs is super fun. It’s a little reminder to create memories that count with the people who mean the most to you. In this book, the author reveals her own tips and tricks for creating fabulous party experiences for whatever occasion, from a casual get-together to a more festive blowout. I really love the layout of this book and that it provides corresponding ideas for decor alongside various party themes for any season or occasion. And the recipes… So many delicious things to try. As I flipped through, I had to stop myself from earmarking the corner of many pages, lol. Just gives me another excuse to flip through it again when I next have both the chance (and the time) to try something new.

OLEUM VERA DIY Mask Kit, 64 g - Retail Value $29.99

Any skin care product that comes with instructions is usually more trouble than it’s worth for me. That being said, I’m not one of the most incredible DIY-ers out there. In fact, I’m no DIY-er at all. But if you’re into DIY kits and skincare, this Oleum Vera DIY Mask Kit is almost certain to be an enjoyable product for you. Honestly, if I were more of a DIY-er, this is something that even I could get behind because it’s a super cool idea. It kind of reminds me of those little soap kits from back in the day where you could make your own powerfully smelling, tiny, usable yet decorative hand soaps that you would give to your grandma. This mask kit contains five natural mask recipes with enough ingredients to make each mask three times, for a total of 15 applications. This kit includes a gentle mask, a glow mask, an eye-lift mask, a cleansing grains mask, and a body-firming mud mask. Like I said, although this isn’t exactly up my alley, this kit would be an amazing gift for any of the more handy DIY folk out there.

WRAPPILY Double-Sided Eco Wrapping Paper, 3 pieces - Listed Value $10.00

Wrapping paper that’s eco-friendly? I love it already. Wrappily prints their unique patterns on 100% recyclable and compostable newsprint. All of their paper is made of plant starch PLA. Each piece is double-sided. Plus, Wrappily’s wrapping paper, besides being eco-friendly, is for a great cause; it’s an answer to the millions of pounds of trash generated by wrapping paper each year, according to the brand. I love how easy it is to store this wrapping paper too. No more unnecessary cardboard tubes also make for an easier storage solution. I’m definitely going to be hanging onto these sheets until the next time I find myself wrapping some gifts.

WORLD BUYERS Woven Cotton Throw - Listed Price $40.00

This woven cotton throw was handmade in India. I love unique products like these because they are truly one of a kind. One thing I have to say, this throw blanket is more of a decorative piece rather than something I’d want to cozy up with because of the texture. The blanket’s texture is a bit similar to burlap, in my opinion, so it’s a bit scratchy. It’s amazing to think that a handmade item like this started out from nothing and evolved into something. This is a great home decor piece, and I really enjoy it.

Verdict

I thought this was a good Bombay & Cedar Fall 2021 Lifestyle box. There was an interesting array of items, and although I didn’t exactly see the cohesion between products, I enjoyed it nonetheless. Organic Cube’s hand soap made me so happy with its uplifting grapefruit scent and effective foaming cleanser. I thought the Symbiosis lip scrub-mask hybrid was great, and I was impressed by how well it not only exfoliated but also hydrated my lips. The DIY mask kit from Oleum Vera will be perfect for passing along to one of my fellow mask lover friends. Wrappily’s eco-friendly wrapping paper is another functional item included in this box, as well as the World Buyers woven cotton throw, both of which I will get good use from. I’m glad to have the Katie Jacobs hardcover book on hand for the next time I’m planning a party or just want to try out some new tasty recipes, yum. Speaking of ‘yum,’ the Tom & Luke Snackaballs were a nice treat, and New Chapter’s organic elderberry gummy supplements were a pleasant surprise, and here’s to the hope of boosting my immune system. Overall, while the items were a little all over the place, I really liked this quarter’s box. It gave a nice range of products with the value to match.

No FOMO here… I’m so glad I cancelled and this wouldn’t be worth the wait for me.

Very terrible customer service, not responsive at all and they just simply don’t care about their customers!

Interesting mix for sure. I wonder why the chocolate balls say chocolate on the package? When I first saw it I thought candy.
