Mary's What I'm Wearing series is such a fun one, and while she is much more glamorous and fashionable than I am, I thought it might be nice to do a Maternity Edition. If you have ever had to experience the struggle of maternity clothes in your third trimester, then you can understand why I am looking for something new to wear over the holidays! Of course, I would love to be dressed up and stylish but at this point in my pregnancy, I am looking for something that is equally comfortable. I decided to try StitchFix and see if I could get something that checks all the boxes for me as far as what I'm looking to wear for the holidays; stylish, comfortable, yet still dressy.

 MY PICKS

While I wanted to try a rental company like Trunk Club, they were having difficulty finding any maternity tops to send me, so I decided to go with StitchFix since I have shopped with them in the past and I know they have a decent maternity selection. Although my daughter receives monthly boxes, it has been a while since I myself have ordered something from them so I was pleased to see that this month I was able to pick out my own five pieces from several that they had chosen for me. This being my fourth pregnancy, I have actually had a baby for each season, which is great as far as birthdays go, but when it comes to maternity clothing, it means that my winter tops are lacking for this far along in my pregnancy (seriously - this baby bump is getting harder to cover!). Luckily, I have plenty of maternity pants so I was able to cancel those from my order and stick with a few tops and a dress for my Fix.

WHAT I'M WEARING THIS WEEK: StitchFix

Stitch Fix is a personal styling service. When you sign up, you take an in-depth survey of your sizes, style, and pricing preferences. After choosing when you’d like to receive your delivery, your stylist handpicks 5 items based on your preferences. The fee for this service is $20, and that includes free shipping and free returns. And if you keep any of the items they send you, you get to deduct the $20 fee from the total. (If you keep all five items, you also get a 25% discount!). Sine Stitch Fix is an ad hoc styling service, you can schedule Fixes automatically or order them whenever you’d like—there’s no subscription required.

WHAT I RECEIVED

I was pleased with the softness of the items in my Fix and I liked that there seemed to be plenty of ruching on the sides of each item meaning they would stretch with my bump. While everything seemed to suit my style, I was a little disappointed that nothing felt quite as dressy as what I was hoping for with this being a Fix specifically for the holidays. Since this isn't a rental company, I wasn't able to get the full experience of wearing these items out and seeing how they performed in the wild, but hopefully, this gives you an idea of what you can expect from Stitch Fix if you find yourself in a similar predicament!

THE GOODS

Paulsen Maternity Brushed Knit Top by Market & Spruce, Cost to Keep $38.00

First Impression: I loved the color and I'm always a fan of stripes, so this did suit my style, but this seemed more like a casual sweater.

How it Fits: This top was so soft and comfortable! It didn't feel like I was going to bust out of it, and it actually felt like I still had some room to grow in it which would take me through January to my due date (2/2/2022). I didn't really like where the sleeves fell on me though, it's like they were just short of being the right length.

Ratings:

  • Dressiness: 2/5
  • Style: 4/5
  • Comfort: 5/5

Overall: I loved how cozy and soft this top was! The color was so pretty and while it was stylish it was still very comfortable. Unfortunately, it was just a bit too casual for what I was looking for and I don't really see a way to dress this top up much!

Patton Maternity Button Detail Sweater by Lety & Me, Cost to Keep $48.00

First Impression: This top was more of a sweater and the hint of sheen to the fabric definitely made it feel more dressy than the first top. I loved the color, the stripes, and that fun button detail at the neckline.

How it Fits: This one fit well and had a decent amount of stretch in the belly area for me. It was not quite as comfortable and soft as the other top, but it was still comfortable and had a nice look.

Ratings:

  • Dressiness: 3/5
  • Style: 4/5
  • Comfort: 4/5

Overall: This top was very pretty and felt like a quality sweater, although a bit thin in knit. It had some great details and fit me pretty well, but it wasn't as comfortable as the first top. While it was still comfortable enough to wear for the holidays, it just did not have that dressed-up look I was trying to achieve. I think maybe it's the stripes that make it feel so much more casual.

Hannah Maternity Fitted Short Sleeve Knit Dress by Nine Britton, Cost to Keep $54.00

First Impression: I loved the beautiful vibrant colors in this dress! It also felt like one of the dressiest options of the bunch - perhaps because it was a dress...

How it Fits: I was actually surprised that I didn't hate this incredibly form-fitting dress on me. It was more comfortable than I thought and if it were springtime, I would probably be tempted to keep this dress and pair it with a cardigan because it really was pretty forgiving in terms of stretch. It's also just so pretty! It is a bit tight on my rear though, which is a problem I always have so this didn't surprise me much.

Ratings:

  • Dressiness: 5/5
  • Style: 5/5
  • Comfort: 3/5

Overall: This wasn't the most comfortable option, mostly because it was just a little tight at the back for me to feel confident in, but it was dressy enough and it was stylish enough...but for the wrong season. This would have made a beautiful spring or summer dress to wear to a wedding or other event, but it's not exactly something that screams Christmas for me.

Alma Short Sleeve Maternity Knit Top by Market & Spruce, Cost to Keep $38.00

First Impression: I loved the gorgeous forest green color of this top! It was definitely a great choice for the holidays in that sense. I was disappointed to see that the knit was not as dressy as I had anticipated though and it was a bit thin.

How it Fits: This one fits pretty well although maybe not with a ton of room to stretch and grow. I did really like the way it fit me, it felt flattering and I liked the neckline and the length of the top.

Ratings:

  • Dressiness: 4/5
  • Style: 4/5
  • Comfort: 3/5

Overall: I did feel like I could dress this top up with some jewelry to get it holiday-ready, but again, I would need a cardigan and I feel like once you throw a cardigan over it (keep in mind- I am limited to which of my cardigans I can comfortably wear at this point) that it automatically dresses it down. Comfort and style-wise it scored decent enough marks, but those short sleeves really are what took this one out of the running for me.

Alma Short Sleeve Maternity Knit Top by Market & Spruce, Cost to Keep $38.00

First Impression: Great color, super soft material, but this was in no way a "dressy" top.

How it Fits: I wanted to love this one due to the versatility - it is just barely big enough to wear now over my bump, but I knew it would be flattering postpartum and be convenient for nursing. It was just not comfortable enough to wear as a maternity top for me this far along.

Ratings:

  • Dressiness: 2/5
  • Style: 3/5
  • Comfort: 3/5

Overall: This one scored pretty low marks overall. The color was beautiful, the material was soft and I loved the idea of being able to wear this now through postpartum when I'll be nursing, but it was just not a great fit in general. It also was not very dressy, nor was it a super stylish top for a holiday get-together. Sure, some jewelry could have helped dress it up just enough to make it work, but I fear that by time the holidays actually roll around and I have been enjoying my holiday cookies per usual, I will not be so comfortable in this top!

DID THEY DELIVER?

  • Did they send me items that were comfortable for a woman who is in her third trimester of pregnancy and looking to adequately cover her large baby bump? I found all of the pieces to be comfortable and for the most part, they all did really seem to fit well over my baby bump. I also think there was just a bit of room for growth in some of them, too, so as far as comfort, I think they delivered on this one.
  • Did they send items that would have me feeling stylish and fashionable for the holidays? I really don't think anything felt particularly dressy this Fix. The dress was the most stylish item, but it felt out of season, and while I could dress the green top up a bit with jewelry, it still didn't quite make the mark since I would have to pair it with a cardigan which I think would make it feel more casual.
  • What’s the return process like? I do love how simple it was to return everything! I simply place it back in the bag and put it in my mailbox for pick up. So even though I didn't find any winners this round, it didn't feel like it took too much effort to try on everything comfortably at home and send it back without ever leaving my house!

FINAL THOUGHTS

I love how convenient it was to try on all of these items in the comfort of my own home, especially during this time when I am waddling more than walking! I was also pleased to see that they had some great maternity selections that were comfortable, but I was disappointed that the items were not quite up to par with what I was looking for - something dressy and stylish to wear for holiday events. This service may be worth another try though, what do you think?

CAN YOU STILL GET THIS BOX IF YOU SIGN UP TODAY? Stitch Fix curates its Fixes based on each individual’s preferences as well as what’s available. What you get might not be the same as what we got, but you could receive something that fits your style and size even better than the looks above! Sign up and see what they choose for you!

VALUE BREAKDOWN: This styling service costs $20 with free shipping and returns. The total retail value of the items inside is $232. The invoice lists the cost of each item next to it, but if I keep all of the items, then I get a 25% discount. The $20 styling fee for the Fix is applied to the purchase no matter how many items you keep, and in this case, it would bring the total down to $154, a discount of around 34% for these items.

For my current pregnancy, I’ve found that Ross and Fred Meyers have some great options – but I rarely get to shop there. So something like Stitchfix seems convenient since they mail the clothes. I still have some dresses from Gwynnie Bee that I’d bought in wrap or empire styles that also work great for maternity up until the last couple of months. I’m not due until summer, but this time around I popped out early so am already having to wear maternity clothes.

I love the blue dress! But yah that’s better for Spring. I did find a gorgeous sparkley burgundy maternity dress top at Ross, and that’s probably what I will wear on Christmas.

I’m not familiar with Fred Meyers – we don’t have any around where I live, but I do like Ross for inexpensive maternity finds! They haven’t had much the past few times I stopped in, but maybe I should check again now that we are getting closer to the holidays; thanks for the suggestion, Jennifer! 🙂 I wish Gwynnie Bee had maternity options – they have such cute styles. Glad you were able to find something nice to wear for Christmas! Congratulations on your pregnancy! <3

I like all these on you! You look great, but I can see what you mean about the “dressiness” or lack thereof. I’m not sure I would feel holiday party ready in any of these, but they all look so good I’d still be tempted to keep a few.

Thanks, Lauren! I was definitely tempted to keep some, but I feel like I’m also so close to my due date. If this were my first baby, I would definitely have kept a few! 🙂

Wow, you do not look like you’re about to have your 4th child. You look fab! While I absolutely get where you’re coming from regarding the dress and the print, you could just throw on a pair of black tights, an unzipped leather jacket, and some oversized earrings, and totally rock that look for the holidays.
