First Impressions

We have never received the Board Book box before, so I was eager to see what was in store! It looked like a good mix of books.

Inside the Lillypost December 2021 Box

Lillypost always sends us a set of Finnley the Fox stickers along with a little note that introduces their coloring contest for the month. Kids can draw directly on the box and incorporate Finnley into the monthly theme, then share it on social media for a chance to win a prize. This month is all about the Arctic.

Watch Me Grow Height Chart by Petite Boutique - Retail Value $6.99 (found here for $2.15)

This month all subscribers will receive a special gift in their boxes. For the board book box, we received this adorable growth chart with nursery rhymes on one side and a fun jungle theme on the actual chart. This is a nice sturdy material and it would make a great addition to any nursery or playroom with all of the bright colors and cute critters!

A Bedtime Hug by Patricia Hegarty - Retail Value $9.99

This is a sweet book that I am looking forward to sharing with our next baby when he arrives. There are some cute animals getting ready for bed and some fun flaps to lift for some tactile entertainment. I love a good bedtime book to read to my babies, so this is a nice one to add to our collection.

C is for City by Ashley Marie Mireles - Retail Value $8.99

This book is perfect for my 3-year-old who has been working on his ABCs. He especially loves vehicles and this one had some fun ones like the fire truck. I also appreciated that they used some bigger words like emporium to expand his vocabulary. The illustrations of each place are easily recognized making it a great pre-reading book as well!

How to Hide a Lion by Helen Stephens - Retail Value $10.38

I loved the illustrations in this story! They had such a vintage feel and the story itself was rather sweet. Everyone is afraid of the lion except for a young girl who finds him. She tries to hide him, but lions are just too big! In the end, the lion ends up winning everyone over making it a happy tail...er tale.

Snowball by Sue Hendra & Paul Linnet - Retail Value $8.99

This is a playful rhyming tale of a snowball who wants to make some friends, but as he heads into town, he begins to pick up more snow among other things that he passes. My kids enjoyed the silliness of it, and it's always fun to have a seasonal book that we can take out and appreciate each year!

Just an FYI - we opt to receive the seasonal books from Lillypost, but if you prefer to leave them out of your shipments, you have that option!

Value - Is it Worth It?

The Cost: $19.95 per month + $4.95 shipping. Save with longer subscriptions.

Value Breakdown:

  • A Bedtime Hug: $9.99
  • C is for City: $8.99
  • How to Hide a Lion: $10.38
  • Snowball: $8.99

The total retail value of the books we received comes to $38.35 which is a savings of about $13.45 since we only paid $24.90 for this box. I didn't count the bonus gift in this, but that definitely adds some value as well!

Key Takeaways

I was impressed with the board box from Lillypost and I loved that some selections were shorter and some were lengthier in text. This made for a good range and even though this is geared toward younger children, my older kids enjoyed them, too! I also thought it was nice of them to send the bonus gift this month.

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!
