First Impressions

The back of the Cocotique info card describes all the products included in this month’s box. It also provides information on where to purchase the products online and exclusive discount codes where available. This month's theme is "Know Your Worth," and it's a Palmer's takeover box. Cocotique has done takeover boxes before, and they're always really fun. A takeover box is when they feature a specific brand or line of products from a brand in the curation of that month's box. I enjoy when they do takeover boxes, specifically when it's haircare because then I can try a whole line of products altogether and see if it has any positive effects on my hair. One downside I see is the retail value of takeover boxes tends to be a little lower. Cocotique has done a Palmer's takeover box before. I believe it was the Palmer's Coconut Oil line, and I really enjoyed it. I can't wait to try the Palmer's Length Retention line.

Bonus Item: Canvas Tote

The box comes with a bonus reusable tote bag each month. I love this element! I think it is commendable when brands promote low-waste options. This month the bag has, "Know Your Worth Then Double It" printed on the front.

Now, on to the items!

PALMER’S Cocoa Butter Formula Length Retention Curl Defining Cream, 7 oz - Retail Value $7.95

I live in California, where the heat is high, and my poor curls are always fighting the good fight against the weather. This product is definitely an asset to them in the battle against heat and humidity. This curl-defining cream made my curls look sharp and bouncy. The scent is a very nice cocoa butter, and the consistency is somewhat thick and lotion-like. I applied the product to wet hair, styled it, and then allowed my hair to air dry. My curls were virtually frizz-free and definitely very defined throughout the whole day. I found this product to also be very nourishing. It left my hair feeling soft, hydrated, and manageable.

PALMER’S Cocoa Butter Formula Length Retention Vita Gro, 6.7 oz - Retail Value $8.95

When I first opened this product, I thought the formula looked really thick and heavy, since the texture is almost paste-like… But it’s actually incredibly lightweight and pretty much melts in your hands, which makes application a breeze. The delicious cocoa butter scent dissipates almost immediately. I have pretty long, very thick, and curly hair, and the directions recommended using a pea-sized amount, to which I fell on the floor LMAO. I definitely used more than a pea-sized amount, and I have to say, the product was easy to apply evenly throughout my hair and felt like it was leaving a protective layer over each strand. I used this after shampooing and found that this balm-like product didn’t leave behind any greasy film on my hands or my hair, and it didn’t make my curls feel heavy or weighed down.

PALMER’S Cocoa Butter Formula Length Retention Defining Hair Gel, 7 oz - Retail Value $7.95

This gel smells just as delightful as the rest. Sometimes I find cocoa butter overpowering and not particularly enjoyable, but this seems to have just the right potency level for my nasal palate. The formula is silicone-free, just like the rest of the length retention line, which I really appreciate. What really impressed me was that this gel didn’t harden or flake, and it kept my hair looking frizz-free and my curls were bouncy and shiny. I can’t explain to you how happy I am every time I use a styling gel and don’t end up with crunchy hair. I feel #blessed. I would definitely recommend this product to any of my friends in the market for a good curly hair styling gel.

PALMER’S Cocoa Butter Formula Length Retention Deep Conditioner, 12 oz - Retail Value $7.95

I love a good deep conditioner. My hair is naturally very dry, so I’m always looking for ways to infuse more moisture into my haircare routine. I found this deep conditioner to be very hydrating. The product itself has a very dense consistency. I applied it directly after washing my hair, put on my trusty unicorn shower cap, and let it sit for about fifteen minutes. After rinsing, it was incredibly easy to comb out my hair. This product definitely helped to detangle and left my curls feeling very soft and moisturized.

PALMER’S Cocoa Butter Formula Length Retention Shine Glaze Serum, 6 oz - Retail Value $6.95

I’ve tried other shine glaze serums from Palmer’s before and always really liked them. This product is just as great. A little bit goes a long way. The texture is like melted coconut oil, and it’s very easy to apply and evenly coat my hair. I found it helps smooth out any split ends and tame any frizzy flyaways while leaving my hair all shiny and healthy-looking. Like the rest of the length retention formula, this product has biotin. I always get really excited whenever I see a product with biotin because of how well it works to strengthen and lengthen my hair and nails. What I’m hoping to see over time using this product is less brittle-ness and stronger, healthier ends.

PALMER’S Cocoa Butter Formula Length Retention 2-Step Mask, 2 x 0.5 oz - Retail Value $2.50

This five-minute mask is just the right amount of minutes for me. I really hate standing around in my trusty unicorn shower cap with drops of water dripping down the back of my neck, waiting to wash out my hair mask. The fact that this mask is so effective in such a short period of time really impressed me. It left my hair looking healthy and feeling so soft and very manageable.

Verdict

I liked how this month’s Cocotique box featured a whole line of haircare, with all the products needed to condition and style my curls. The deep conditioner and two-step mask were so wonderfully hydrating, and I was impressed with how detangled and manageable they made my hair. The curl-defining cream really smoothed out my split ends and kept my curls defined. I also received the Vita Gro and really liked the balm-like texture and how the product melted, making it easy to apply. The gel was most impressive to me because it didn’t harden or flake throughout the day. Lastly, the shine glaze serum… I liked the shine it gave my hair while taming any surviving frizz. Overall, I enjoyed the curation of this box and the quality of the products included.
