This is a review of the  "Hibernate" box.

First Impressions

Bespoke Post always has good presentation. Their boxes are instantly recognizable. I like that they have the perfect box or bag for any item you order. The box typically comes with a card to let you know what's inside and a little bit about each item. This one gives you tips on how to keep your footwear smelling nice and fresh.

Line of Trade Grizzly Cabin Slippers - Retail Price $65

As much as I love being outside, there is something about staying in and staying warm. As soon as the cold weather hits, I'm the first one to pull out the sweaters, thick socks, and, of course, slippers. In the winter, I wear my slippers everywhere. Even when I spend the night somewhere else. Every year I buy a cheap pair of new slippers because I usually wear them out in one season. But this year I thought it would be great to get a really nice pair of winter slippers and jumped the opportunity to get them via Bespoke Post.

These Grizzly Cabin Slippers looked enticing from the photos. "Brown, soft leather, stitched into an open-back moccasin slipper silhouette. The hide sits atop a non-marking synthetic sole, but the real draw here is the interior lining — made from plush faux fur." I took that from the site, but it sums up my thoughts exactly. They look exactly what I think of when I hear "grizzly cabin slippers." I've never had slippers like this and imagined they would be the end-all indoor winter footwear. However, I was disappointed in my choice the moment I slipped them on.

First off, the size is small. On their website, Bespoke says to go with a smaller size, if you are between sizes. I went with a 9 and found they didn't fit well around my feet and my heel was right on the back edge, which wasn't very comfortable. Now, I could exchange them for a larger size and they say the leather will stretch over time, but that brings me to my second issue: they won't stay on my feet. The faux fur feels amazing on my bare skin, but it's so slick that the slippers slide off with every step. Even with socks on, I spend more time trying to keep them on my feet than enjoying them. Lastly, I was actually a little disappointed with the craftsmanship. At first glance, they look amazing, but upon closer inspection, I found loose threads, rough edges, and some of the fur matted with what I'm assuming is glue. I will say these wouldn't necessarily be dealbreakers for me if everything else was perfect. However, all these things add up to me being disappointed in this item – especially considering the price involved.

I have already returned this box – which I have never done – and I will say the return process for Bespoke Post is simple, intuitive, and fast. They make it easy to exchange items for a different size and/or color, return for credit toward another box, or for a total refund. The latter costs an $8 restocking fee. If I have anything good or bad to report about this process, I'll update the post here.

Update (1/22/22): The return process was quick, easy, and painless. It took a few weeks for them to credit my account, but once they did, it was simple to order another box and the cost was taken care of in the purchasing process. 10/10. Would recommend.

Brothers Artisan Oil Room Spray - Estimated Price $6

This room spray is not just for its namesake. Spray it in a room, on yourself, or, in this case, your cabin slippers. This heavenly scent of eucalyptus and bergamot is made of only a few simple ingredients: pure witch hazel extract, distilled water, and a blend of essential oils. That's it. Brothers Artisan Oil has a lot of great-smelling products like soap, beard oil, and lip balm. But I think this smell would be wonderful as a candle. Regardless, I really enjoyed this spray. I wish I could keep it, but unfortunately, I had to send it back with the slippers.

Note: The link is for an 8 oz. bottle for $24. That's $3 an ounce. The bottle in this box is 2 oz. and therefore estimated at $6. This was your math lesson for today.

Verdict

This was the first time I have been disappointed in an item from Bespoke Post. It was, of course, my choice to go with the slippers, but they fell short of the high expectations I have for this subscription. Maybe if I had gone with a larger size and/or the insides were flannel or something, they would have fit better and actually stayed on my feet. I really wish they would have worked for me because they are a very handsome pair of slippers. Alas, they were not for me. I'm thankful Bespoke Post allows returns/exchanges and makes the process painless. Just another way they do a wonderful job of making sure you get what you want. I really liked the room spray and thought it was a cool complimentary item. Again, I wish I could have kept it because it was heavenly.

Let's Talk About Value

The items of this box clocks in at $71. While nice, that is actually a little below the typical value of these boxes. Even if the slippers had worked for me, I would want to see a little more value. Maybe instead of the spray, include a nice mug? Pair of socks? Bearskin rug? I dunno. Something cabin-y.

To Wrap Up

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes, the "Hibernate" is available at the time of this post, but it is a limited edition situation.

I had the same problem with fit. I’m a 10.5 and followed their directions (going with a 10), only to find them too small. I thought that loosening the leather laces might help (at least it would make them a little wider and maybe more comfortable. One lace immediately broke as soon as I tried to tie it (less than 24 hours after receiving it). Surprisingly cheap materials for Bespoke.

I have a different pair of slippers that I just cut those laces off of. The only purpose they really served was to come undone and be annoying. I too was surprise by this sub-par effort from Bespoke. Let’s hope it was just a one-time deal, because, so far, it has been. Thanks for commenting.

That is truly a bummer. Maybe if they would have just kept the backs on the slippers they might have worked?

That’s a good point. It’s a shame too, because the fur felt so nice on my feet. Thanks for commenting.
