IPSY Glam Bag has a reputation as being one of the most popular (and affordable) beauty subscriptions out there. Why? Because each month, IPSY delivers a personalized curation of five deluxe samples, and sometimes full-sized products, ranging from skincare, haircare, makeup, beauty tools, and more in an adorable bag (the possibilities for repurposing this bag are endless).
In honor of our amazing readers voting IPSY as a top beauty subscription in our recent Readers’ Choice Awards, we’ve decided to compile a list of hacks to potentially up your chances of building the best curation of products for your own personalized IPSY Glam Bag each month.
Keep in mind that these hacks are based on the experience of various IPSY subscribers, and while no hacks are guaranteed to work, the chances are quite high that you will see improvement in your personalized product curation each month.
The Hacks
Now, time to check out these hacks.
1. Keep your IPSY preferences up to date.
The Hack: There is no shame in taking the IPSY personalization quiz each month. Actually, there are benefits to doing so. Be sure to answer every question. By doing so, the algorithm can determine what products you want to receive. Subscribers have found success by selecting ‘rarely’ on the item type and frequency for products they don’t want to receive. Use that to your advantage. So, if there is a particular type of product (mascara, hair care, perfume, etc.) that you want to avoid, make sure to select ‘rarely’ in your preferences for that product. Also, try checking off only one or two specifics when it comes to shades, scents, etc., and skip out on those drug store brands if you’re hoping to receive only the high-end brands.
Pro tip: Have enough eyebrow products to last you a lifetime? Try changing your hair color to either red, gray, or ‘other.’
2. Rate and review your IPSY bag.
The Hack: When reviewing the products in your IPSY bag, provide a rating based on the item type rather than the actual item itself. For example, if you love mascara but the mascara you received that month didn’t quite work for you, still rate it as ‘five stars.
Pro tip: Be consistent with your ratings. If you list all things related to blush as ‘rarely’ or skip over them completely, make sure you also rate any blush product that you might receive as one star. This will further help the algorithm to understand that you do not want blush products. Maybe you actually did enjoy that particular blush, but still, leave a one-star rating unless you decide that blush is one of the types of products you’d like to receive. Using ratings that are in between (three stars, etc.) can skew the algorithm from determining which types of products you actually like or don’t like.
3. Adjust your IPSY personalization quiz each month based on spoilers.
The Hack: Seriously, wait for the spoilers. Doing so gives you a huge advantage of being able to snag the particular items and even shades you hope to get. For example, if you notice a spoiler has been released containing Tarte’s Shape Tape, make sure you go back into your preferences, whittle down the brands (even going so far as to only check off Tarte in the brand section), and ensure you have concealer checked off as well.
Pro tip: Change your preferences as the seasons change. In the summer, you may be a shade darker and dye your hair lighter. Maybe in the winter, you want more skincare and less makeup.
4. Subscribe at the right time.
The Hack: If you want to pick one of your items, be sure to subscribe before the first of the month of which you want to receive your first IPSY Glam Bag. Choice day is usually around the 20th to the 25th the month prior, so subscribe just before Choice day to get the opportunity to participate.
We hope that you loved reading through this list of hacks, that you found some success in cracking the algorithm, and are now on your way to receiving even more personalized IPSY Glam Bags to enjoy!
