Everyone knows Sephora is a beauty store where you can find almost anything and everything related to makeup, skincare, body care, hair care, and self-care, but did you know they also frequently release curated limited edition sets? Sephora's curated sets aren't new, and today's review is on the newly released Lashstash To Go Mascara Sampler set. It features five mascara samplers and a voucher to redeem for your choice of full-size mascara.

FYI – this kit is still available while stocks last!

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. Check out our editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes.

First Impressions

This mascara sampler set is packaged in a pretty pink box, wrapped with a sparkly gold bow on top. The mascaras are packaged neatly inside, and the back of the box has additional information about the mascaras included.

If you choose to redeem it online (I love that online redemption is now offered as an option!), you enter the "certificate promo barcode" in the "promo code" section of the website. The code should start off as "U-", and the dash needs to be included in order for the system to recognize your code.

Don't forget that every Sephora purchase comes with two free samples of your choice!

The Breakdown – What’s Inside This Limited Edition Box From Sephora

Bite Beauty Upswing Mascara in Black, 0.18 oz - Estimated Value $10.08

Certificate redeems for the 0.40-ounce mascara that retails for $28.

I was really excited to try this mascara after seeing it launch in the past year, and I am happy to report that it didn't disappoint. This gives my lashes great definition and volume with a little bit of curl, and I love how wide awake it makes my eyes look. If it has a downside, it's how big the brush is because it can be a little unwieldy to use with the short mascara wand. I didn't have issues with smudging when I wore this, either- this is definitely a mascara that I am strongly considering using my voucher for.

Here I am with the Bite Beauty mascara on one eye, with the other eye mascara-less to give you an idea of the difference.

Milk Makeup Kush Mascara, 0.10 oz - Estimated Value $10.00

So I actually really, really hate this mascara- it's full of lies. It gives my lashes good volume, and then it smears down my face throughout the day every time I wear it. I received the full-size of this mascara in a box one time and tried it as an optimist, but the full-size mascara actually was actually even worse in performance than the mini. If you can make this mascara work for you, I salute you- but this definitely doesn't work for me.

Even though I already knew I didn't like this mascara, I tried it on anyways for this review. Looking back at the photo now, I feel like even the volume wasn't that great.

HUDA BEAUTY Legit Lashes Double-Ended Mascara, 2 x 0.11 oz  - Retail Value $15

Certificate redeems for the 2 x 0.28 oz mascara that retails for $27

Out of all of the mascaras I tried in this set, I think this one gave me the most dramatic lashes. I liked the side of the mascara with the curved wand that lengthens and curls my lashes, and then when I added on a coat of the volumizing mascara my lashes looked fantastic. I didn't experience smudging, but I also am not ready to declare this a smudge-free mascara (I like to see how mascaras perform after a long and hard day, not just an easy one before I declare them smudge-proof). All of that being said, I really liked this mascara. This one took more work than the rest to get a great look, but I don't mind the extra effort. I don't think I'll use my voucher on this mascara, though- I know a lot of people are getting this mascara in their Ipsy Glam Bag X, and I am hoping I will be able to swap for it on the swap site.

I've got three photos for you here! The first one is me wearing just the lengthening mascara on one eye, then with a coat of the volumizing mascara on top. The third photo shows you what just the volumizing mascara looks like on the opposite eye.

Pat McGrath Labs Dark Star Mascara, 0.16 oz - Retail Value $13

Certificate redeems for the 0.43 oz mascara that retails for $30

I was looking forward to trying this mascara- I am a big fan of the Pat McGrath brand and all of the products I have tried from her have been high-quality and lovely. This mascara promised volume, length, and lift- all of the things I love to see in a mascara. I know this is the priciest mascara of the bunch, but I still think it may be my favorite. I actually thought the finish was very similar to the Bite Beauty mascara, only that this one gave my lashes a touch more lift at the roots than the bite beauty one does. Smudging? I don't know her when I am wearing this mascara. The performance was solid, and the shiny gold packaging of the tube doesn't hurt, either.

Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara, 0.13 oz - Estimated Value $13

Certificate redeems for the 0.27 oz mascara that retails for $27

Out of all of the mascaras in the kit, this is the one that's been around the longest. I've tried it plenty of times, and while I don't dislike it, I didn't think it measured up in performance to the Pat McGrath or Bite Beauty mascaras. This mascara has an hourglass brush to coat every lash with volume, and I do find it to be effective at giving me pretty lashes- but other mascaras can do an even better job, which is why this one wasn't my winner.

Value – Was This Box Worth It?

The Cost: $29

Cost Breakdown: This kit costs $29 + free shipping, and I received $59.55 worth of mascara minis and a voucher to redeem for the full-size mascara of my choice that ranges in value from $25-$30.

Sephora promised a value of $57 for this set, and the value of the mascara minis alone surpasses that. Then, you can add anywhere from $25-$30 in additional value depending on which mascara you redeem your voucher for.

Key Takeaways

Sephora releases their Lashstash sets about twice a year, and they're usually pretty solid. This set did not disappoint- while I have strong negative feelings about that Kush mascara, the other four mascaras were pretty great. I appreciate that three of the five mascaras were new to me to try, and I also really love that two of the five mascaras were the larger mini sizes that are currently available for sale at Sephora. I haven't actually decided which mascara to redeem my voucher for- I'm torn between the Pat McGrath mascara and the Bite Beauty one. I would love to know your thoughts on which one you think is best- and I definitely recommend this kit if you're a mascara wearer.

Other Things You Should Know

Can you still get this box if you order today? Yes! This is still available online, and you may also be able to find it at your local Sephora store.

Can the voucher be redeemed online? Yes! Sephora recently changed its voucher program to allow for in-store or online redemption. You can't redeem this at a Sephora inside JCPenney store, Kohl’s store, or Sephora Canada store, so the ability to redeem online is a great option for people who don't have a local Sephora but still want to take advantage of it (and when you do you get to add your two free samples to your order, even if you're not buying anything else).

Is it hard to redeem the voucher? No, but sometimes you have to enter the code a few times when there are letters that could be mistaken for numbers and vice versa. Your voucher has two barcodes at the bottom- you want to use the "certificate promo barcode" number and enter it in the space to enter coupons and make sure you include the dash near the beginning of the code.

Is shipping free? Shipping is free on all orders over $50 and costs $6.50 for orders under $50 (though since the pandemic started you can usually find a free shipping coupon for smaller orders that will stack with other coupon codes)

Is this eligible for the Sephora Holiday Sale? Yes! Use code YAYHOLIDAY to save on your Sephora purchase.

I actually just finished a Milk Mascara mini and I liked it lol. There was a bit of a learning curve for me at first, because I kept poking myself with the huge brush and smearing it on application, but I figured it out. It certainly isn’t my favorite and I probably wouldn’t buy it (I prefer mascaras with spiky wands), but I liked it enough.

I want to try the Huda. Looks like something I would like.

That Milk mascara is the devil. It doesn’t always smudge for me but it gets progressively… chunkier? in the tube and it was a brand new tube so I know it’s not bad. But every time, I was dealing with clumps and lumps, trying to get smooth full lashes. Did the same with a mini I tried. No thank you! I’m with you, I love all Pat McGrath mascaras. It’s the winner for me.

I’m so torn between the PMG and bite beauty one!

I really hate the milk mascara also Jess, it’s terrible! I’ve been thinking of buying this kit, but since I only have 2 eyes and about a zillion good mascaras, I’ll probably pass. I wish Kosa was in there, that might tempt me. Thanks for the review. You have the most beautiful eyes!
