First Impressions

Each Brown Sugar Box includes a mini-magazine that highlights the theme of the box, lists the products included, and offers interesting and inspiring articles. This month’s box is the “Girls Night In.”

Now, on to the items!

IZZY & LIV “Wildflower Goddess” Tee - Listed Value $28

This long-sleeved V-neck tee is super comfortable. It is soft and lightweight, with just the perfect amount of stretch to it. I really like the deep, almost burnt orange color and the beautiful print of Mother Nature represented as a Black woman. It may be a little on the thin side for a long-sleeved tee – but one of my favorite fall/winter looks is the layered tee-hoodie-jacket combo, which tends to work best with thinner shirts.

IZZY & LIV Paint by Numbers Set - Listed Value $25

I have never been a DIY kind of gal. I wouldn’t even say that I’m ‘crafty.’ I can’t see myself spending six hours and $90 at Michael’s Crafts to make something that I could just buy for a reasonable price. But when I opened this paint set and saw that the image was on canvas, I was sold! I love this idea – paint by numbers for adults – it’s more refined than the standard kit that has the image on paper or cardboard. The set comes with everything you need: 24 paints, four different size brushes, and the canvas. I’m not sure if this is a common thing, and I am just late to the game, but I am super excited to give it a try. I’ve always wished I could pick up a paintbrush and just create something beautiful on a blank canvas – but that is not a gift I have. This set is going to make me feel all kinds of artistic and ensure that the end result is a recognizable image, lol. Now, I just need to find the time to get it done.

IZZY & LIV “BartendHER” Cocktail Recipes - Listed Value $10

Adult beverages – the only good thing about being a grown person. There is laundry, BOO; bills, BOO; and taxes, double BOO. But delicious cocktails are one grown-up thing we can all cheer for. We may not get treehouses, summer vacations, or light-up shoes anymore, but at least we have margaritas, piña coladas, and this convenient little cocktail recipe book from Izzy & Liv. I love the variety of fun, tasty drink recipes and the eye-catching Black girl-inspired art on each card. Perfect for a girls’ night in, planning a party, or just to shake things up on the weekend. It’s always five o’clock somewhere… Wink, wink.

IZZY & LIV “Cheers Sis” Champagne Flute Set of 2 - Listed Value $40

Okay, now I’m sensing a theme here, lol. It’s like they tapped into my millennial weekend mind. Calling myself a mixologist or drink connoisseur would be a stretch, but I do enjoy having a drink or two on the weekend and socializing with friends. Next time one of my besties gets a promotion or a graduate degree, I will definitely be toasting with these elegant but fun champagne flutes. I am a huge fan of how this design mixes the classic delicate flute with the bright pop of a colorful silicone sleeve. The sleeves are removable and have little crown cut-outs.

IZZY & LIV “Wine Down” Wine Stopper - Listed Value $15

I love what Izzy & Liv said about this product in the magazine this month: “Wasting alcohol as an adult is the equivalent of losing your balloon as a kid.” Funny, clever, and true. We have all been there, sadly watching alcohol spills that could have been prevented. It’s the worst. I am pumped about the wine stopper. I have a few, but they are all boring and plain utilitarian-looking stoppers. This stopper is in the shape of the iconic Black Power fist and has a lovely golden finish. It is so on point with the theme of this month's box and the subscriber base. I know it’s silly, but this stopper made me feel seen as a BIPOC. Sometimes I go into stores like Target or T.J.Maxx and it feels like any novelty item, while versatile, was designed for a specific type of person who is usually not me. I love that this is just a fun product that anyone can use but also highlights something culturally impactful to people of color.

Verdict

What I really liked about this month’s Brown Sugar Box is the clear step into grown people territory. I always enjoy this box, but sometimes I can’t tell the age range of the subscriber base from the curated products. This box was clearly for the 21-and-over crowd. The products were curated perfectly, in my opinion. It was like Izzy & Liv set me up to have my own boozy paint night with the girls. I am excited to give the paint by numbers a try while my bestie and I sip a delicious cocktail from the recipe book out of the awesome and colorful champagne flutes. If we happen to lose a lid to a liquor bottle or uncork a bottle of wine, I have the fabulous wine stopper ready to go! There is also the comfy long-sleeved tee that is perfect for a brisk fall night. Overall, I think this was a wonderful box, and I truly enjoyed all the products. It makes me excited to see what the box will come up with next.

Probably one of their best boxes I’ve seen. It’s the first time I’ve ever felt “Man, I wish I was subbed.” Sad I missed it.
