November 2021: Fall Vibes

This month's Black Girl Magic Box came with a November newsletter focused on change. As we "fall" into a new season and we see the leaves begin to let go, I am taking the time to evaluate what is some baggage I can rid myself of before the end of this year. While I am no fan of cold weather (and that's what fall brings in Pittsburgh, PA), I am filled with anticipation of what's new to come into my life...and new things this box will bring 🙂 A Magical Affirmation card was also included.

 Leopard Print Mask

Our first item is not listed on our Fall Vibes insert card, but it's hands down (personally) the cutest item in this month's box. I'm not exactly sure what the fabric is, but it's so soft and kept my face really warm. A perfect mask for this fall weather we are heading into. Thank you Black Girl Magic Box for this adorable item!

Gwell Gwellnola, 50 g – Retail Value $5.00

My diet has been complete trash since Halloween. I've been in need of a healthy reset and a new season is a perfect time to start. I don't think this is the snack, however, that I'll start with. "Gwellnola" is Gwell's play on words with their branded gluten-free granola clusters. This treat is made with golden turmeric and coconut which is good for recovery and immunity. Because of the coconut, I was hoping for a sweet taste, but this gwellnola isn't sweet at all.  Just healthy, dry, granola. While I don't doubt the benefit of this treat, this won't be one I'll keep in my kitchen.

Motherland Essentials Citronella Lemongrass Soap, 4 oz – Retail Value $7.00

This is my second time receiving this item in a BGMB. It's a beautifully designed and pigmented soap. I am not, however, a huge fan of the scent. Because of the citronella, it smells exactly like an outdoor candle you'd use to keep bugs at bay. Not exactly the body fragrance I am going for. I do think that it'd make for a nice hand soap though.  I placed it in my kitchen for hand washing, and it seems like a great fit.

Curls Blueberry & Mint Scalp Treatment, 4 fl oz –  Retail Value $12.00

Our next item is an introduction for me to the Curls brand. If you really enjoy the smell of mint, you may take a liking to this hair product. While I am generally not a mint fan, I do appreciate that particular smell in hair products. It makes me feel like my scalp is squeaky clean, and I love the tingle sensation. This hair serum is light, non-greasy, and felt amazing on my scalp! The blueberry and mint combo acts to stimulate hair growth and fight dandruff.  I'm curious to try more hair products from Curls!

R. Drew Naturals Whispers Feminine Wash, 2  fl oz – Retail Value $8.99

This is another favorite item of mine that I have received in a previous BGMB. This rose feminine wash is soothing to your most sensitive parts and keeps you smelling and feeling fresh all day long. It is formulated with natural extracts that hydrate and are non-irritating. I highly recommend this product!

Aesthete Tea Witches Brew, 1 oz – Retail Value $12.00

Yes to Black Girl Magic Box coming thru with my favorite repeat brands this month! It shows that BGMB stands behind brands that they feature in their boxes, which I truly appreciate.  Aesthete tea is a favorite of mine for multiple reasons: all of their teas are rated on a 0-5 caffeine scale,  ingredients are organic, and Aesthe's clearly relays what a particular tea supports (this one is good for digestion and liver function). This tea has a rich smell of coffee and dark chocolate. Which makes sense as this can be used as a coffee substitute...without the high caffeine.  The taste is just as deep and rich and serves as a perfect beverage for fall.

Black Girl Magic Box Autumn Vibes Body Oil, 4 oz

Our last item in this month's box is Black Girl Magic's Autumn Vibes oil. Keep your skin smelling sweet and feeling nourished with this fragrant oil made with ingredients such as sweet almond oil, jojoba oil, and other botanical blends. I like the consistency of this product. It's heavy enough to be moisturizing but not greasy.  I like to blend body oils with my lotion to add an extra level of moisture.

Verdict

This month's Black Girl Magic box had more hits than misses and served as a nice reminder of self-care while we undergo changes in preparation for the new season. There were a couple repeat brand items that I absolutely adore like the feminine wash and tea.  Just like last month, however, I was not impressed with the repeat citronella soap bar. I loved the introduction to the Curls brand scalp treatment, and would love the info for the mask as it's so soft and so stinking cute!

To Wrap Up

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Order now to receive the next box. From Black Girl Magic Box:

Boxes ship bi-monthly on the 25th. Please order by the 15th of that month to receive the current shipment.

Value Breakdown: This bi-monthly box costs $63.94 ($54.95 + $8.99 shipping) and I estimate that I received $45 worth of items for pricing known. While the price was unknown for the mask and body oil, based on similar items, I estimate that the value of the box is worth more than the cost paid for the subscription.
