First Impressions

The back of the Cocotique info card describes all the products included in this month’s box. It also provides information on where to purchase the products online and exclusive discount codes where available.

Bonus Item: Canvas Tote

The box comes with a bonus reusable tote bag each month. I love this element! I think it is commendable when brands promote low-waste options. This month the bag has, "Self-Care Always Matters," printed on the front.

Now, on to the items!

Miss Jessie's Multicultural Curls Styling Lotion, 1 oz - Retail Value $2

Miss Jessie's is the OG go-to for multicultural curls. I've used their products for years and very rarely find anything that compares. This styling lotion leaves my hair pillow-soft with very little frizz and super-defined curls. It smells absolutely wonderful and is lightweight enough not to weigh down my curls. It doesn't leave behind any weird residue or leave my hair with a crunchy texture after drying. It was perfect for my wash-and-go style, and the one-ounce packet was a good amount for a one-time use.

SUNNY ISLE Jamaican Black Castor Oil Repair Growth Oil, 4 fl oz - Retail Value $9.99

I'm gonna be honest... Castor oil has never been my thing. I know it's amazing for hair growth and nourishing your scalp, but the scent is always just too much for me. It's a very potent smell that is not at all pleasant, and reminds me of fish oil. For the sake of the review, I gave it a try. It feels very nice on my scalp and definitely hydrated my hair, but I can't get over the scent, so I'm definitely going to have to pass this along to a girlfriend of mine who is always singing the praises of castor oil.

SUNNY ISLE Jamaican Black Castor Oil Infused with Chebe Powder, 4 fl oz - Retail Value $8.99

Whew! Another potent castor oil product... This one, you apply from root to tip, and it definitely restored any dull, damaged strands and left my whole head moisturized with a great shine to it. But again... The scent. I just can't do it. This one has more of a sulfur-like twang to it. If anyone has any tips on how to use this product if you're sensitive to smells, please let me know!

KRYSLEE Watermelon & Grape Body Souffle, 2x 2 oz  - Estimated Retail Value $5.50

This body souffle is wonderful. The watermelon and grape scents are absolutely divine. The base is shea butter, and the exfoliant is a very fine sugar. I used after shaving my legs and it left my skin feeling smooth and soft without any of the dry tightness that I usually get post-shave. I also have been keeping one in the kitchen next to the sink for after washing dishes. It breathed new life into my dry hands after they'd been submerged in water for an extended period of time.

OLIVE NATURAL SKINCARE Illuminating Face Polish, 50 ml - Retail Value $29.99

A microbead-free exfoliant! This face polish uses natural exfoliants and plant enzymes to remove toxins, dead skin cells, and help improve circulation. The polish was gentle and perfect for my sensitive skin. It removed the dead skins cells on the surface of my face and left behind the smooth, baby-soft skin underneath. After cleansing, I applied the product to my face and neck in a circular motion and let it sit for about two minutes before rinsing. My face didn't feel dry or stripped after.

OLIVE NATURAL SKINCARE Lip Balm, 10 ml - Retail Value $9.99

My lips are almost always very dry and a little cracked. I think it's because the mouthguard I have to sleep with to stop me from grinding my teeth at night has turned me into a little bit of a mouth-breather as I sleep. This lip balm feels absolutely wonderful on my lips. It has a very smooth, almost gel-like texture but is full of nourishing hydration without that irritating greasy feeling. I love that the balm is formulated with manuka honey. It just feels so nice without any stickiness. I found this product very nourishing and long-lasting.

OLIVE NATURAL SKINCARE Rose Water Mist Toner, 29 ml - Estimated Retail Value $5.22

I'm not a rosewater person, in general. For some reason, anything that is too heavily scented with rose gives me a headache. Thankfully, this toner is only mildly scented. The mist is very fine and delicate. I found that a spritz or two throughout the day is incredibly refreshing. It was nice and cooling and lightly moisturizing on my skin. I love the convenient little travel size. It's perfect for a weekend getaway. Toner is always a struggle for me to pack because most of the products I have are too large to come in a carry-on or to be conveniently transported.

SEED PHYTONUTRIENTS Anti-Frizz Shampoo,  250 ml - Retail Value $18

I have a lot of hair with a lot of curls and a huge amount of frizz, so anything anti-frizz garners my immediate attention. I've tried this anti-frizz shampoo in a past Cocotique box, and it worked well in curbing my frizz-prone hair and making my untamable curls a bit more manageable. It cleansed and nourished my hair without leaving it feeling stripped and brittle. The scent has a very natural essence to it, with hints of orange flower and parsley in the aroma. The packaging is eco-friendly and recyclable, but it also holds up well in the shower. A packet of seeds is included inside every bottle. I received “Lemon Basil.”

My Lemon Basil seeds.

Verdict

I love the variety of products curated for this month's Cocotique box. With the theme being "Self-Care Always Matters," I think it was great that they included a face polish, a lip balm, and a toner, all from the same brand. I love to see how using the same line of products affects results. I also really love how moisturizing the lip balm is, that the exfoliant in the face polish is microbead-free and that the toner is very lightly scented with no harsh fragrance. The body souffle smell so delicious, and I love that the base is shea butter and the exfoliant is sugar. Miss Jessie's is one of those 'bougie' brands where you pay a higher price for the quality, so I'm always happy to receive any of their products in a subscription box. The anti-frizz shampoo is a product I've tried before and really enjoyed. I also love the brand's eco-friendly, biodegradable packaging and the unique addition of a packet of seeds with every bottle. The castor oil root repair and castor oil infused with chebe powder are definitely products that achieve results with their natural ingredients. Sadly, I just can't stomach the scent, but I know many people who swear by and love castor oil products, whom I will be passing these along to. Overall, I think this was a wonderfully diverse box from Cocotique this month, and I'll definitely get a use out of almost everything.

That would be great, or if they had boxes in different categories that subscribers could choose from depending on their hair type or style!
