I always get so excited when this little makeup bag arrives! I trust the curation and quality of the brands that I have come to know and love from So Susan. This month looked to be filled with lots of makeup, my favorite!

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

First Impressions

This month came with an information sheet on the featured items. Always helpful when I first start digging into the products. Let's see what August brought us!

What's Inside The Bag

So Susan Limited-Edition Makeup Bag, August 2021 - Retail Value $12

This month's bag says "Attracted To Ambition". These bags are always so well made. They are perfect to toss a few products into to keep in your bag, to use when traveling, or to hold extra makeup that you might not want to keep out all the time if you don't use it often. While I love the quality and convenience of these bags, I keep finding that I don't love the prints and quotes on the bags month after month. This has a really cool black and white city scene on it, but it just doesn't feel very me. I decided to gift this to my niece who always loves a new makeup bag and appreciates the quotes a bit more than I do.

So Susan Cosmetics Glow Gaia Firming Neck & Décolleté Glow Cream, 3.5 oz. - Retail Value $52

For whatever reason, my neck has been so dry this summer. I've been trying to use a moisturizer every morning and night to keep the irritation down, but I was so excited to see this glow cream to try to see if this would help. This cream is silky and made to boost the moisture on the thinner skin of your décolletage. It also works to conceal signs of damage and fatigue to give your skin a healthy and natural glow. The cream is made with persimmon and pear extract to accelerate cell turnover and illipe butter to help prevent skin from drying out over time. The thing that sort of caught me off guard is that this cream has a shimmer to it. It is made with pearlized mica to help luminate your skin.

I used this cream a few times in the morning, applying it in an upward motion, after getting out of the shower. I am bummed to say that I didn't notice this providing my skin with the deep hydration that I really need. The moisturizer that I have been using leaves my skin feeling hydrated longer, whereas this cream left me feeling as though I needed to apply more within a few hours. I also just did not love the tinted shimmer that this left on my skin. Since I was only applying it to my chest and neck, there weren't any other parts of my body that matched the shimmery tint so I felt super uneven. I'm sure it wasn't noticeable to anyone unless you were really looking, but it bothered me a good bit. I was so excited to give this cream a try, but since it didn't give me that big boost of hydration plus the shimmer, I just did not fall head over heels for this product.

Trifle Cosmetics Cheek Chiffon Blush & Highlighter - Retail Value $9.50

I am slowly coming around to highlighters and have started to use one daily to give me a more natural makeup look. I was excited to give this combo a try since the blush gives you more of a chiffon finish, which is unlike anything I have been using lately. The blush and highlight both go on so well, giving me a somewhat creamy finish that leaves me feeling hydrated. Since it is a creamier blend, you can apply, build, and blend easily with both shades. The coral blush was just not for me though, unfortunately. It was a bit too light and really brought out the red undertones in my skin. I tend to go for a more pinky blush and I really saw why when I tried this coral blush. My sister-in-law loves coral blushes though so I was really excited to pass this combo set to her! That is what is so great about this box, even if something doesn't work for me personally, I always have someone in my life that I know will use it and love it!

Trifle Cosmetics Lip Parfait - Retail Value $12.00

Hello beautiful lipstick, I adore you! I received this in the Summer Cone shade, but you could have received Raccoon, Guilty Pug, or Exotic Fruits. This lipstick goes on like a balm but has a beautiful finish that doesn't feather or look shiny. It is made with cocoa butter for a deep hydration that will leave your lips feeling soft literally all day long, and silicon-coated color pigments to keep the color vibrant and refreshed. Summer is the perfect time to rock a shade like this and boy was I feeling myself in it! I went downstairs after I applied it and my son told me how beautiful I looked so I obviously have been wearing it almost every day I can (aka when I'm not in a mask). The color stays throughout the day and since this is so hydrating, reapplication is a breeze. This is a lipstick that I am going to always keep in my bag to help me welcome in the summer each year that I have it!

Jelly Pong Pong Dream Palette in Midnight Ride - Retail Value $20.00

My eyeshadow palettes have been such a miss for me with this box the last few months. I wasn't super excited about this palette once I opened it, it feels small and not as high quality as I am used to receiving in this box. All of the colors have a shimmer to them which isn't always my favorite. My Mom recommended using each of these more as a highlight or blended together with a similar shade to build a multi-layer look, but that each on its own might not be enough. She was right! The look I have here was a quick and simple blend of the second shade in this palette and it really fell flat for me. I am going to try using it for a date night look using the lovely blush shade as a highlight at my brow.

The palette itself is a really nice quality, each shade going on with a creamy texture that gave me little fallout. Each shade is an antioxidant-rich blend that has an airy application that is going to last longer throughout the day without feeling like you need to reapply. While I am not totally in love with this palette, I know it will be handy to have when I am building a layered look or if I need a quick highlight.

Verdict

This month's So Susan Color Curate was perfectly curated with high-quality products. I just wasn't over the moon about all of them, but I am happy to say that I was able to pass anything that I didn't love onto a friend. I honestly love when I can gift products like this to friends because I know they are quality items that they might not buy for themselves, which also helps me to see the overall value of this box. While I wasn't in love with the glow cream, it really was a fun product to try. I have never purchased a cream specifically for my neck, and since this is a higher price point item, I probably would have never bought it for myself. It was so fun to test it for a few days even though I ultimately ended up passing it along to someone else.

The blush was another item that just didn't work for me personally, but you can't always get the perfect shade each month. The palette was the biggest bummer for me only because I haven't gotten a palette in a few months that has really wowed me. Luckily though, I chatted with my Mom and have found a few ways that I can use it still. The lipstick was the big winner for me this month! I mean, it is so beautiful from the shade to the application. This lipstick alone made the whole month worth it for me personally!

That lipstick is perfect on you! Great shade!

I feel like this sub used to have more vibrant shades or something.

I don’t think I’d be able to wear that Glow Gaia cream at all — that’s pretty heavily tinted! The packaging is adorable, though.
