BoxyCharm June 2021 Review

Let's see what I received!

OVP Beauty Spotlight Palette - Retail Value $40.00 (£29.00)

This month's Boxycharm is "dazzle" themed, and this palette is a great start. It is filled with metallics and mattes that actually feel quite "holiday party" for a summer delivery. Like many palettes with loads of shade options, this one is a little hit and miss. The metallics are mostly all easy to love with smooth textures and interesting color combos. A few shades felt a little more finicky, like Show, Limelight, and Dream which looked much sheerer than I would have thought but still added interest to the whole package. The mattes are a much more mixed bag. Some were pretty great (Public Eye, Star, Glimmer) while others were patchy and uninspiring (specifically Dazzlenight and Edge). Altogether, there were enough really great shades here (I love Sparkle, Notoriety, Hype, and Dream!) to make me enjoy this palette, though I don't think I would have spent the retail price on it.

And here is a quick metallic look featuring Sparkle, Uplighting, and Hype.

KVD Beauty Dazzle Stick Eyeshadow in 'Hail Surge', 3.5 g - Retail Value $22.00

As someone who has recently embraced cream blush with much gusto, I think that I might feel the same way about cream eyeshadow. That being said, this is anything but an everyday shade. It is really, really metallic and glittery! The texture here is thicker but very buttery, and it is easy to apply an opaque layer of this stuff to your lids (or wherever!) and smooth it into a perfect finish with your fingers. This shade is a champagne color with LOADS of very fine shimmering glitter. It doesn't ever totally dry down which keeps it comfortable on the lid.

This actually has sparkles that shine in light pink and periwinkle, but they don't show up well in images.

Over the entire lid creates a foiled look.

TOUCH IN SOL Pretty Filter Glowdient Makeup Palette - Retail Value $34.00

I seem to always enjoy Touch in Sol items, and this highlighter-focused palette is so pretty! You can use each of the shades alone or grab your fave larger powder brush and swirl for a gleaming mixture. Per the info on the Touch in Sol site, these shades are multi-use. You can use them as a highlighter, eyeshadows, or even blush. My swatches below are pretty heavy, but if you apply with a light hand these colors are wonderfully sheer. The smooth texture allows for any sort of application pressure you could ever want. I was really pleased by the glow factor here and extra happy none of them are what I would consider "glittery".

Here are the shades individually in the same order as inside the compact.

Aceology Overnight Lip Mask, 15 mL - Retail Value $19.00

One of my worst habits is that I am a lip chewer. It's like a gave-up nail-biting and instead, I now love to destroy my lips whenever I am idle or pondering some mystery on my couch. Needless to say, my lips need TLC all the time and I apply a heavier lip mask of some sort before bed every night. I wasn't sure I liked this stuff at first because I am not crazy about the scent (kind of artificially sweet, IMO) but the texture and smoothness won me over. While it is heavy (and great to sleep in!) you could also easily use this stuff anytime your lips need some extra care.

Brow Bar by Reema Browlights, Camera, Action Duo Brow Highlighter - Retail Value $16.00

My final item this delivery was a double-ended brow pencil. One end has a concealer-like shade and the other has a pearly cool champagne color. Both shades work well underneath my brow to add definition (something I often neglect with my wild brows). I liked the texture of both tips and found them easy to blend. The pearly shade is also perfect for adding highlight to your face wherever you want.

Verdict: I quite liked this BoxyCharm delivery. Maybe it's because holiday parties weren't a thing at all for me last year and this kind of put me in party-look mode. The metallics and shimmers inside probably won't be everyday looks for me, but I do have a few fall weddings coming up, so watch out. I also liked that this box included a couple of everyday items like the lip mask and the brow pencil. The overall value reaches $131 which is quite respectable for a $25 box.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, your first box will be the July box!

Value Breakdown: At $25.00 for this box, here is what you are paying per item:

  • Highlighter Palette $6.49
  • Lip Mask $3.63

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

That KVD eyeshadow is really pretty. As a makeup minimalist, I love a good cream shadow.
