BoxyCharm Premium May 2021 Review

Each box comes with a card detailing the items included.

Now, on to the items!

HAUS Laboratories Glam Room Palette no. 1 'FAME' - Retail Value $34.00

I think this is the first eye product from this Lady Gaga brand I have ever tried and while the quality was great and the colors pretty, I think I was just expecting something more wild from this pop star. These colors were downright wearable, day or night, which truly isn't a bad thing but was just surprising. Pigment levels were great and the only shade I felt a little 'meh' on was the golden Applause shade which was sheerer than I would have liked. My favorites were Cake, Cameo, Spotlight, and Shimmer. Because this is a mix of shimmers and nudes across a warm orange to cooler purple spectrum, you can really build all sorts of looks with this palette.

Here is a quick look using Cake, Applause, Curtail Call, Spotlight, and Shimmy.

Too Faced Melted Chocolate Eye Shadow in 'Tirami-sue Me', 4.9 mL - Retail Value $21.00

I ended up loving this stuff so much more than I expected to. Megan from 2019 was very anti-cream formulas but 2021 Megan is way into cream blush, cream highlighters, and now cream eyeshadows. This shade looks a little dead in swatch form (see below!) but it dried into this powdery matte finish that lightens up a lot. The color I received was a dusty lavender and exactly the sort of minimal eyelid topper I appreciate these days. It does dry quickly, so I recommend blending with your finger ASAP after you apply it for a diffused powdery look.

It looks a little grey here, but it's more lavender in person, swear.

It blends out really soft and pretty and dries lighter than it looks.

Bite Beauty Power Move Creamy Matte Lip Crayon in 'Midnight Rye', 1.5 g - Retail Value $26.00

This might have been the biggest bummer in the box because I already know and love this brand and this formula, but the color couldn't have been more wrong for my face! Browns are difficult for me to pull off because I have fairer skin that looks really cool against chocolate tones. This is a true, rich, chocolate and the color itself and the pigment is gorgeous. Just.... not on me. I have a few shades in this exact formula in bold pinks and a red that I love though, so I do feel the need to praise the formula. It applies smoothly and opaque instantly, and dried matte but always stays soft and flexible. It is truly a great option for someone who wants that matte look without any dryness. I wish this had been any other color.

I knew this wasn't going to suit me all that well.

I mean, it is dramatic, but not for me.

Serumkind Black Blossom Hand Serum, 50 mL - Retail Value $27.00

This is a new brand to me, but I liked it immediately. I already hold K-Beauty formulas in pretty high regard and I am always down to try a new hand product! Though this formula is called a serum, it reminds me of the texture of normal hand cream, which is fine. The scent is downright heavenly and is totally a perfume I would buy. Think dark floral notes, warm sweetness, and musky woods. Absolutely dreamy. It is strong, which might not suit everyone, but as a perfume junkie, I am all in. The texture was velvety smooth and left my hands looking and feeling soft and hydrated.

Laruce Beauty Go-Getter Brush Set - Listed Value $96.00

I feel like this brand has been in quite a few boxes lately and I actually like the quality. I just wish the pricing wasn't so .. well, high. Because even for bigger name brands, this is really expensive. This trio includes a kabuki brush, a highlighter brush, and a small angle brush. I am a huge fan of a kabuki-style brush because they are useful for literally anything in my book. Cream foundation? Kabuki. Setting powder? Kabuki it up. My list could go on, but you get it. I also liked the size and shape of the highlighter brush because it is dense enough to grab product but also diffuses powder nicely, making it great for shimmering sweeps across cheeks, collarbones, and more. The angle I will likely get less use from, but I imagine if you like applying liner with something like this, you will be pleased. All three have the studded matte finish handle I have come to associate with this brand and are a good weight.

Rodial Dragon's Blood Eye Masks, 3 pairs - Estimated Value $18.38 (buy 8 pairs for $49.00)

My final item was a box of three pairs of eye masks. I like eye masks like this, especially in the summer, because you can chill them in the fridge and it feels like such a treat after a day in the sun. These are made out of that second-skin sort of bio-cellulose material that you can barely notice when you have them on, so you can get away with answering the door for your Grubhub order or even driving in your car with them on without terrifying other humans. They did a great job of de-puffing my skin and just making me feel good.

Verdict: My BoxyCharm Premium was pretty great this delivery. Sure, a huge portion of the value is in those brushes that are in my opinion, a liiiiittle overpriced, but even without the brushes, there was value here for a $35 box. I calculated a value of $222.38. I enjoyed the HAUS palette and its wearable colors but the Too Faced liquid eyeshadow totally won the day in terms of eye products inside. I thoroughly enjoyed the Serumkind hand serum and my Rodial eye masks. The lip crayon would have been a total home run if it had been a different color. All in all, the brands inside this month were good, the products were (mostly) fun, and I thought this was a nice curation full of value.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

I agree with Snow, your hair cut looks lovely! Very fresh! Also I am so happy to see the palette and eye masks reviewed. Eye masks are my new favorite thing but I prefer to know the material before I buy them so thank you for that. I have been curious about the performance of that palette as well so I am thrilled to see it looks like a winner. This was a pretty good looking box!

Wow that lipstick is super dark! I used to wear lipstick like that but now have really embraced reds. I really like that liquid eyeshadow too! I am pretty anti-shadow but I could totally get behind that color and formula. And Megan, the haircut is super cute! ☺️
