BomiBox June 2021 Review – Hello Summer Box #4

Mary&May Niacinamide + Chaenomeles Sinensis Serum, 30ml – Retail Value $15.58

This was interesting- I don't think I have ever tried a product from this brand before, and the packaging feels a little clinical (not in a bad way). There are only eight ingredients in this bottle, and the formula is 93% quince extract and 2% niacinamide. The formula is free from alcohol, parabens, artificial fragrance, and artificial colors. Niacinamide is kind of a do-it-all ingredient that can help with supporting your skin's moisture barrier, regulating oil production, and the appearance of pores. Quince extract naturally has vitamin C, and the two key ingredients combined work to brighten the appearance of dull skin. I don't feel like my skin has been lacking in radiance so I can't really speak to that, but the serum layered well in my routine and didn't irritate my sensitive skin. I would be interested to see how my skin looks like when this entire bottle is gone- the ingredients and brand as a whole have got my interest.

Neogen Sur Medic Azulene Soothing Peptide Ampoule, 80ml – Retail Value $17.88

I was really excited to see this product inside the box- I tried a sample of the moisturizer from this line, and this big bottle of serum is full of ingredients that my sensitive skin loves like 10 different peptides, ceramide capsules, azulene (a derivative of blue tansy), and five different derivatives of Centella Asiatica. I could go on- there is also panthenol, beta-glucan, and licorice extract, and that is just from a quick scan of the ingredients list. I have been using this every morning since getting it, and I like how lightweight it is while still being hydrating (I apply it after my toner and before my other serums, and I would classify this as a watery serum). I will say I haven't seen too big of a difference since using this, so it's not quite as soothing as I would think from the ingredients- I think this is a product that will be great at keeping sensitive skin from getting irritated but isn't as healing if your skin is already inflamed. All of that being said, I'm going to continue using this to see how my skin acts after having used this for a month or so.

Farmstay Real Avocado Nutrition Eye Cream, 40 ml

It was pretty hard to find this eye cream available for sale, but that is par for the course sometimes with K-Beauty subscriptions- not everything is widely available in the US! This eye cream has avocado oil to nourish the delicate skin around your eyes, and I would classify it as midweight- not too heavy, but not super light. It absorbed easily into the skin with a few gentle pats, and I didn't experience any eye irritation when trying this out.

Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner, 30ml - Estimated Value $3.60 (buy the 100 ml version for $12.00)

This is not a new product to me, but I am happy to see it again- I really like Pyungkang Yul. This essence toner (I just use it as a toner) has a base of milkvetch root extract (91.3% to be exact) instead of water, and milkvetch has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. I would describe the texture of this as juicy- it's liquidy like water, but slightly thicker than regular water (but not quite a serum). I've had good results from every product I've tried from Pyungkang Yul, so I like to have this on standby should my sensitive skin need some extra help.

Neogen Dermalogy Day-Light Protection Airy Sunscreen, 5ml - Estimated Value $3.20 (buy the 50 ml version for $32.00)

I will be completely honest and say that I love trying out new sunscreens, especially if they're a cute mini. This Neogen sunscreen is new to me, and my first impressions were really positive. It is truly lightweight and absorbed into my skin quickly, and it didn't leave my skin feeling greasy. This sunscreen has SPF 50 and 20 different botanical extracts like acai, aloe, and avocado, so it is a good option for those with sensitive skin, too. On me, I didn't notice any white cast, but I don't want to say that will be a universal experience since I am not sure how it will wear on those with deeper complexions.

Here are some of the skincare in this box out in the wild! I had dinner plans after going rock climbing that I didn't want to be too sweaty for, so after a super quick cleanse with my favorite cleansing wipes, I applied the Pyungkang Yul toner to my skin and followed up with the Neogen sunscreen. The entire process took less than 60 seconds, and my skin was happy to have the sweat wiped away and sunscreen reapplied before going on with my evening.

Mamonde Petal Spa Oil To Foam Cleanser, 25ml - Estimated Value $3.00 (buy the 175 ml version for $21.00)

This is an oil cleanser that works pretty well, but this is probably the fourth or fifth time I've seen this sample in a subscription box- I am a little over it, to be honest. The design behind this cleanser is to incorporate both a first (oil-based) cleanse and a second cleanse into one product, and it does a good job of rinsing away dirt without leaving an oily residue behind. If there is no makeup on my face I can get away with using this as a one-and-done cleanser, but I still use my full two-step cleansing routine if I have heavier products on my face.

JMsolution Active Jellyfish Vital Mask - Retail Value $0.99

I am a big fan of the sheet masks JM Solution makes, so I am always happy to see them in a subscription box. If the name of the mask didn't clue you in, this sheet mask does indeed have jellyfish extract. I think it would have been better for the serum of this mask to have been paired with a hydrogel or biocellulose material, but I still found this to be really hydrating to my skin (I think the five different forms of hyaluronic acid helped with that, too).

Farmstay Visible Difference Mask Sheet in Acerola - Retail Value $0.79

This sheet mask has hyaluronic acid and acerola cherry extract (which naturally has vitamin C). The user experience on this mask was a little basic, but since this was still a really hydrating mask to my skin, the price is definitely right.

The Verdict: You never really quite know what you’re going to get from Bomibox, but I still look forward to it every month. This month felt like a pretty big winner for me, with two different full-size serums along with a full-size eye cream and some samples that excited me. I didn't fully love last month's box since there were so many moisturizers, but I think this month was much more well-balanced. Everything except the eye cream adds up to $45.04, which looks low but the value of this box didn't feel low if that makes sense. Values with K-Beauty products should always be taken with a grain of salt because of the difficulty in finding some products and the difference in prices sometimes depends on if you're buying from a US-based seller or an international one. This is a box where the personal value will really determine if you're satisfied, and I think Bomibox did a good job this month.

To Wrap Up:

Can you get this box if you sign up today? No, your first box will be July 2021.

Value Breakdown: At $39.00 for this box, you're paying approximately $4.87 per item.

I still have that sample of Sure Medic Azulene moisturizer in my stash. Thanks for the reminder to dig it out!

I think this will be the next sub that I try now that I’ve used up a lot of my backlog lol. It always has interesting products. I am very intrigued by an Airy Sunscreen!

I have a bunch of those oil to foam cleansers (I think Ulta gave me a few as GWP) and I bought a full size a while back. I sometimes use it as bubble bath lol.

I actually really like that oil to foam cleanser (I got it in an ipsy) but man oh man it make my face smell like roses so strong, I still smell it after my second cleanse a little lol
