We Craft Box “Gnome’s Butterfly Garden” March 2021 Review

In each box, your project instructions and story will arrive on this pamphlet, complete with colored photos. They also include some information on sharing your creations on social media for a chance to win a free box. This month is all about Gnome and his butterfly garden. The story is a cute rhyming tale that isn’t too serious, but I find that it always makes the activities a bit more engaging!

Project 1: Beautiful Flying Friends

Our first project was to make some beautiful flying butterflies. These mesh butterflies are so pretty already, they were just waiting for some color! They even had strings attached and a little loop so that we can hang them and make them really fly.

Faber Castell Connector Pens, 4 – Buy a pack of 50 for $13.00

We received these beautiful spring colors to decorate them with. I love how these markers connect!

They provided a tube of glitter glue for us to use for embellishments. While the glue pictured here is green, we received a blue tube in our box.

*FYI – subscribers may receive a different color glue.

We got out some scrap paper and they got to work adding some color to their butterflies.

Then they embellished with some sparkly glue.

These will be a pretty little accent to hang somewhere!

Project 2: Lovely Garden Lanterns

Our next project was to make some lanterns using these thick paper templates and the yellow tissue paper from our box.

Aleene’s Tacky Glue, 0.66 oz. – Buy a 4 oz. bottle here for $1.27

They also provided some tacky glue and a few pipe cleaners for us to use to hang them with when we were done.

I went ahead and popped out the pieces of their lantern for them while they were working on their butterflies so that these would be ready to go when they were done.

They got to work adding color and some more glitter glue for added sparkle.

To make them look like lanterns I measured and cut out a strip of yellow tissue paper to fit over the windows of the lantern. Then I used the tacky glue to glue it inside so that it looked like they were lit up.

When they were dry it was just a matter of folding along the creases and closing up the tabs on the side. Then the top pieces overlapped and were held together by our pipe cleaners.

I thought they turned out pretty cute! Since the tissue paper is so thin, we could actually put an electric tea light under these and make them into real lanterns!

Project 3: Garden Gnome Friends

This next project is the cutest and one that my kids were very excited about. They provided two sets of tube socks for us to use to make our gnome friends. We received two white tube socks, one black and green striped sock and while the other striped sock here is pink, we actually received a purple one.

*FYI – Subscribers may receive different colored socks than the ones we received.

They also provided a bag of rice and some stuffing to fill our socks with.

This fun furry sheet was perfect material for our gnome beards and of course, we needed some rubber bands to hold it all together.

While the majority of these noodles were for packing materials, two of them were used for our gnome noses.

I divided the rice up between the two white tube socks for the kids.

Then the kids finished stuffing them using the white fluff.

We tied those off with a rubber band after they decided how tall they wanted their gnomes.

I drew a line down the middle of our fur piece and then I began to comb it into two different directions before I cut it in half.

The kids then got to work further combing their gnome beard hair the way they wanted it.

Then I added some tacky glue to the back of their beard strips and they wrapped them around the bottom of their white sock. We cut off the excess, and then their striped sock went on top for the hat. The last touch was to cut one of the noodles in half and glue it on for a nose. They had some other instructions for how we could cut the ends of their hats and add some more fur, but the kids were happy with how they looked as is!

How cute are these furry little gnomes? The kids loved them! I thought they were so easy to make, too!

Project 4: Gnome Garden Posters

The last activity in our box was these super cute gnome garden posters for them to color. I honestly was jealous that I didn’t get to color one of these! They are so cute and the designs that they shared on the instructions sheet were so inspiring!

They were eager to get started and try some of the techniques they were shown.

My son hasn’t finished his yet, but that’s understandable given the large size of the poster and the fact that we had already done a good bit of coloring already!

Here are all of our finished projects together. We made two butterflies, two lanterns, two adorable gnomes, and two colorful posters!

Verdict: The kids had so much fun with this month’s We Craft Box and the fun garden gnome theme! They were really inspired by the artwork they saw in the directions and they were so excited to make those fun and adorable gnomes. Everything was so well organized, we didn’t need any extra materials, and the directions sheet was so detailed with step-by step-instructions and lots of photos to help guide us along the way. I really love that their instructions say, “our instructions are only suggestions!” because it gives kids some confidence to take some creative liberties along the way, too. The projects were engaging, the results were incredibly cute, and best of all, there was very little mess-factor and no planning on my part. This box was an easy win for us this month!
