My SketchBox March 2021 Review

Their info card includes a list of the products and why they were chosen for the box. There is also a link to SketchBox School, a video they release each month showing you how to use your items and demonstrations, too! If you are new to art, these are really great, and even if you aren't, they are filled with helpful knowledge and smart tidbits.

You also get a card with a drawing by this month's featured artist, Kingsley Van Zandt.

There was also a super cute SketchBox box sticker. This month, it is in the shape of a pink double-ended marker.

Sketchbox Exclusive Maridu Marker Set - Listed Value $17.50

This set is a custom Sketchbox exclusive sort of deal, and the palette is an interesting mix of red, purple, green, brown, and pink! There is also a clear blending marker. All of these are very bold and bright, especially the red, pink, and purple. Each also is double-ended, meaning you have different nib sizes to play around with.

It's an interesting palette but really fun.

Copic Sketch V12 in 'Pale Lilac' - Retail Value $7.00

This pale lilac shade has a lot of pink to it. It is really soft and very pretty! I can imagine it being used on delicate petals or as an accent in the shadows of clouds.

Soft and cute.

Copic Sketch Marker V15 in 'Mallow' - Retail Value $7.00

As someone who used to hate purple, I am really into pale lilac and lavenders right now. In fact, I keep buying clothing and accessories in a similar shade to this marker! It is a Copic marker, so, of course, the quality is impeccable. Even though this is a paler shade, it still has a big presence on paper! It has one chinky chisel tip and a smaller round point.

I love this color!

AD Spectra Alcohol Marker in '012 Wine' - Retail Value $5.50

This shade was much redder than the cap suggested, but that was a good thing since we already have so many purples happening in this box! It reminds me of a brick color and will be perfect for landscapes or portraits. The marker was super smooth and I love the flexibility of the two tips.

AD Spectra Alcohol Marker in '047 Walnut' - Retail Value $5.50

Like its twin above, the quality here was great! Loads of pigment and a smooth delivery. This shade is a warm golden brown.

Top: Walnut, Bottom: Wine.

4 x 6 AD Marker Paper Pad - Listed Value $8.49

This is pretty much perfect marker paper! No teeth means a smooth surface and lots of glide! It also feels thin but none of the markers have managed to bleed through.

I tried to let the size and shape of the paper inspire my project this month. And to me, it looks perfect for a doll-house-sized rug!

Here is my first complete little "rug". Next time I am going to leave some negative space on the top and bottom to draw in "tassels" but this one I finished off with a thin red border. I feel like I would have loved this for my Barbies as a kid!

The Verdict: This month's SketchBox delivered a really unexpected color palette but a fun challenge in terms of what to create with it. I loved the quality of each of the markers and I had a lot of run making the little rug.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No. At the time of publication, you'll likely receive the May box.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.
