Our IPSY Glam Bag Plus March 2021 Review

Here is our info card for the month. No specific item list this time.

My drawstring bag arrived with a cute print with a red inside.

Now, on to the items!

MOTD Cosmetics Eye Got It 5 Piece Brush Set - Full Size! Retail Value $34.00

IPSY chose this item for me!

I don't really need more makeup brushes for myself, but I am working on building a kit for weddings and special events. This is a nice little set of vegan brushes with a good density to the heads and handles that feel nice to hold. Each handle also has rose gold lettering that specifies what it is designed for. With all the different shapes in this kit, it will be a great addition to my bag.

Hero Cosmetics Mighty Patch Invisible+ - Retail Value $17.99

This was my choice item!

I love these little patches SO much that I have spares in my treatment room to send home with clients! If you ever have a big ugly zit hanging out on your face, these patches are what you need. I like to use these on larger bumps that have recently been found along my jawline (thanks, maskne!). I prefer to apply them at night after I wash my face and then sleep in them. You can usually see a white bump in the clear sticker which indicates that some of that yuck has been pulled up out of the troubled pore. You can also use these during the daytime because they are essentially invisible. They have one ingredient, hydrocolloid, which works by adhering to your skin and keeping it moist while still absorbing fluids from that pesky zit. Magic.

I'm coming for you, zit. Also, peep the tubes from the mascara (below) under my eye.

Purlisse Beauty Silk Glow BB Base Primer, 1 fl oz – Retail Value $28.00

This was my choice item!

I don't really wear enough makeup to justify a primer anymore, but I think I was hoping this would essentially work like a radiant BB cream. It kind of does, but there is no real tint here, even though the cream looks a lot like a skin tone sort of shade. It is pretty much invisible but does leave behind a softer surface with a nice natural glow. It provides enough radiance to be worth wearing, even on an otherwise naked face.

HALF CAKED Totally Tubular Mascara in The Heights – Retail Value $12.00

IPSY chose this item for me!

I didn't like this mascara, but, to be fair, I don't like tube formulas. Basically, it adheres to each lash individually, forming a "tube" that goes over it. When you go to wash it off you can actually see the long tube-like strands wash off along with other chunks of mascara because it doesn't actually dissolve. My issue is that these pieces like to fall off during the day, and I don't have time for that. I also found it was a pain to remove on purpose and tubes and pieces of them would go into my eyes which was annoying and uncomfortable.

I mean, it's fine. There is a big difference between nothing and this mascara because my lashes are blonde. But I am not super impressed.

Anastasia Beverly Hills DIPBROW Gel in 'Taupe', 4.4 g – Retail Value $20.00

This was my choice item!

You all know I am a big brow gel fan. I use them daily, even with nothing else on my face. This is for a few reasons, like the fact that apparently I sleep on my face and they are always in different directions, and how so many of my brow hairs are now white for some reason. This Taupe shade is lighter than any I have already, but I kind of like that. It allows me to really go big and bold without them looking too brown with my ashy blonde/white hair.

Just a little extra help.

Verdict: Though this IPSY Glam Bag Plus didn't have anything inside that was super new or exciting, everything felt very useful and practical. I ended up loving everything except the mascara, which still makes it a good bag! I am happy to have more patches since masks, and therefore maskne, seem to be here for a minute or two longer and I really liked the brow gel and primer. The brushes will go to good use in my work kit. All in all, I am happy with my $111.99 value in this $25 bag.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? You'll likely start with April as your first month. As of publication, there was no IPSY waitlist!

  • Brush Set $7.59
  • Patches $4.02
  • BB Primer $6.25
  • Mascara $2.68

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

Thanks!

When my bag arrived I was shocked to see the condition of it it was filthy literally filthy filthy filthy…. Every single product had been opened in sync used more than half the product was gone in the majority of them.
What other offensive incident was the mascara when I open the tube there was all kinds of debris on the lash brush itself.
I did reach out to Inform them of the condition of the bag and sent many pictures.
The 1st clue was when I received a bag it was crazy the package was not even closed it was barely being held together with some tape .. The bag they were put the items in was not large enough to support it?

I have been having serious mascara issues lately. Racoon eyes are my thing apparently and it’s driving me nuts! Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Megan, that lipstick color looks really pretty on you! I have always been a fan of that color 💕

If you have smearing problems, DEFINITELY try a tubing mascara. It’s all I can wear. Women who don’t have this problem tend to hate them. I had to laugh a little at Megan’s comment about not having time to clean off the little pieces. For me, brushing them off is SO much easier than cleaning off black circles. I’ll take the bits over embarassing smears any day.

I have tried a lot of them… probably close to 30. Brands don’t always do a good job pointing out which are tubing formulas. What you want to look for is ‘acrylates copolymer’ as the second ingredient. If it has any kind of wax as the second ingredient, it will smear (on me.) Also I personally try to avoid ones that have fibers for lengthening, because they irritate my eyes. (The one pictured above appears to have fibers if you look closely at the brush photo.)

For me, the Thrive one did smear. The one I like best is Mirenesse icurl, but it is spendy and hard to get in the US, and I still wouldn’t call it holy grail. I’m still looking. : )

My favorite drugstore is Boots Number 7 Stay Perfect (gold tube) which you can get at Target or other drugstores in the US. The formula is grear, I don’t love the brush though.

Loreal Double Extend Beauty Tubes is also good, and you don’t need to use the primer side. It does have fibers, but I think(?) they were in the primer side. Using it with the primer did make my lashes insanely long. (A woman I didn’t know even commented on how long my eyelashes were the day I wore it.) Unfortunately it was too irritating to me to use the primer for daily use though.

Just be gentle taking it off. Use a cotton pad with warm water and press it on your eye for a few seconds. They can break your lashes otherwise.

I just want to add my two cents and agree with MzBev. If you decide to try Thrive I also recommend only starting with a trial. It absolutely did not work for me (most tubing mascara does not) and I had terrible raccoon eyes when using it. Mascara is my favorite beauty product and I’ve tried a ton but that one was a definite dud for me personally. If my GBP for this month will ever get here I’m excited to try the Victorria Beckham mascara! I will admit though, after all these years I still don’t have an HG. I am starting to wonder if something is wrong with me ?!? 😂 I’m going to give Errmmm’s suggestion a try. Thank you Errmmm! 🤞🏼🙂

I can’t deal with mascaras that smudge at ALL and I’ve finally narrowed my HGs to tarte’s Amazonian Mascara (AMAZING) and for my second layer of mascara I use Wet-n-Wild Mega Length WATERPROOF mascara. This never, and I mean NEVER smudges. The key is getting the waterproof formula. So I do 2 layers: first the tarte, then the Wet n Wild. People ask me all the time if I’m wearing false lashes, I swear to God. I also use Babe Lash so that has upped my lash game as well. I’ll never ever switch my mascara brands, they’ve worked for years and if it ain’t broke, why change?

If someone tries this combo and it smudges, I’ll eat crow for dinner.

Thank you for this! I’ve noted your picks and I’m going to try them. I have horribly “smudgy” eyes…a damaged tear duct from sinus surgery years ago has meant that I can’t wear contacts and my eyes water a lot, and I’m a “heavy blinker”. To make it worse my natural lashes are so sparse, short, and lightly coloured that there’s not a great base of lashes to attach extensions or falsies to. In fact I think I might have a tube of that Tarte mascara from a sub box that I haven’t tried…doing so today if I can find it!

MzBev

If you decide to try the Thrive, get a small tube. I stopped using it since it gave me raccoon eyes and flaked bad. After the third try and it getting in my eye (ouch) I stopped using it.

@Anne I read that, too (also unsure of source) and I think it’s a great idea. My qualm is with the possible brush size impact. If it’s a shorter wand, it *may* affect the performance, but really stressing that “may” because this might have been subconsciously drummed into me by the beauty industry. With all of these beauty boxes I only have to buy full sized, full price mascara on rare occasions anyway. Now that I think about it, my most recent non-beauty box or beauty box sale was Sephora’s LashStash to Go and most of them are min-size!

Anne

Totally seconded, from someone who has a half-tube of flakey Thrive. :/ (I actually recall reading an article [maybe here/linked from here?] about how mini-mascaras were actually way better than full sized ones -unless you used them like 5 times a day or something crazy – since the small tubes wouldn’t get old and dried out by the time you used them up.)

Tiffany

Wander Beauty Mile High Club has been working for me when nothing else does. I use a lot of eye creams and serums, and I think that’s what causes it. No issues with the Wander Beauty though.

Hi Snow — have you tried Thrive mascara? Raccoon eyes were always a HUGE issue for me because I have long, straight lashes that just loveee kissing my undereye area. I saw Thrive all over instagram ads but didn’t really give the company much thought. Then I received a sample in my regular GB and I’ve been repurchasing the full size ever since! It’s my HG mascara and absolutely no raccoon eyes anymore.

Thrive really is a great mascara, it does Not smudge. Also I noticed that using it continuously actually grew my eyelashes. They became pretty full. My qualms with it are, it makes my eyes sting soooo bad. And its a pain to remove. I really enjoyed it as a mascara, but have not repurchased yet, as burning eyes are never fun. I also had a small sample size of the Thrive that I got as a gift, and I will say, IT IS NOT THE SAME. I am all about small mascaras, but the small Thrive was nowhere near as functional as the full size. So yea, when I ruin my eyelashes with extensions again, I know the Thrive will help me get them back. But for now, Ive bought the sephora lash set. Monsieur Big is looking pretty good. Has anyone tried the Anastasia?

Snow

Hey thanks Vic! I’ve been meaning to try that mascara. My racoon eyes are seriously stressing me out. I gave up every other eye product but I refuse to give up mascara.

BB

I love the brow gel! I agree about the color. Definitely will be repurchasing!

Has anyone else not gotten their bag for this month? I was given a tracking number about 10 days ago that still just says on the way to DHL. It hasn’t been scanned at all. My regular GB is finally being delivered today. Starting to think my GBP is lost… Again.

Debby

Yes, I received both of mine last week

Just got mine today.

My GB finally got delivered today and none of the products not a one are what is supposed to be in my bag. My bag was pretty good and the bag I received is terrible. My GBP has said on the way to DHL for 10 days now. I’m so irritated. If I hadn’t prepaid the year on my GB I’d cancel I’m so fed up. I am always missing something or something is broken or my bag is lost and they don’t have product to replace it. It’s always something I spend way too much time e-mailing them every month trying to get what I paid for. Really annoying.

Steph H.

Mine hasn’t even shipped yet. I received an email from ipsy at the beginning of the week apologizing for the delay, and saying that I should receive a tracking email within 3 days. Still haven’t received anything. I did receive a tracking email yesterday for my add-ons that usually ships with my bag. I don’t know if it’s a good sign that they’re shipping separately or not. I’ve been with ipsy for over 6 years and have never had this problem.

My March never showed up. I contacted IPSYcare, and they said it never shipped and gave me a refund.

I haven’t gotten my GB or GBP yet. My GB shipped and should be here by the 27th but my GBP just finally shipped yesterday and still says on the way to DHL. I don’t know whats going on with shipping this month, I always have both bags by now

Mine GB is finally going to be delivered today. Exceptionally late delivery this month for some reason. Sat at the DHL facility for over a week.

The description of the drawstring bag is wrong, I think its the description of a past months bag. It says its light blue with the word Dream on it. Its not a big deal I just thought you might want to know. This was a great review!

Thanks, Tiffany! I get too excited about the products and sometimes forget that spot. 😅
I will get that edited!

Haha, wow! Light blue with DREAM on it in white was January 2021’s bag! Lol! Is somebody having a Groundhog Day experience? 😋
