BarkBox is a reader-favorite monthly subscription box for dogs.

BarkBox customizes your box to your dog’s size. For reference, this review is for the medium size, which is recommended for dogs 20-50 lbs. Our beloved rescue dog, Rufus, is around 40 lbs. and is 12 years old. He can be a bit picky about toys but usually loves treats.

If you have a younger pup or just one who needs toys of the rough and tumble variety, I highly recommend trying the Super Chewer subscription (read our reviews to learn more!)

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

April 2021 BarkBox "Galapagos Tails of the Tropics Box" Review

The April box included 2 toys, 2 bags of treats, and a chew - this is close to what you can expect with your monthly subscription, though it does vary for everyone once in a while.

Sometimes, these items are marked as 'Sold Out' on the BarkBox app - but they have a little 'As Seen In BarkBox' section of the BarkShop where you can grab items featured in monthly themes.

This month also came with an information card on how you can get a free month of BarkBox!

Pur Luv Duck Stick, 2 sticks

These sticks are made with real duck, chickpea, tapioca starch, coconut glycerin, vegetable gelatin, and more. It is made without corn, soy, and wheat which I really appreciate. Rufus originally didn't love these sticks, but he is slowly warming up to them. He takes a while to eat them, licking and walking away, then going back for a nibble, then going away, before going back to gobble it down. These treats can be given in small pieces as a snack to enjoy or all at once broken up, just be sure to monitor your dog since this is bigger and chewy.

Santiago Seal

I love this little guy so much! I sort of want to keep it for myself, but Rufus seems to really like it as well. This toy is sturdy yet cuddly and comes with a squeaker and crazy crinkle. Luckily for Rufus, the crazy crinkle isn't too loud which is good because the crinkle sound can scare him sometimes. I can tell this is going to be a toy that sticks with Rufus for a long time!

Sergio Sea Turtle

Oh my goodness- I love this turtle so much as well! I didn't realize it, but we have a lot of turtle stuffed animals in my house so my kids were super excited to see this little guy. Rufus loves playing tug of war, especially with the kids, which this toy is perfect for. The little legs sort of dangle and flip, making it great for pulling and tugging. It also has a squeak and crazy crinkle. This toy has already gotten a toy of playtime and love.

Bark Oinky Jerky Sticks Pork Recipe, 3 oz.

Rufus is obsessed with these jerky sticks. I am always excited to see these each month because he eats them so often, but also because we are almost out of all of our other jerky stick bags! These chewy pieces are made with apples and 60% fresh pork. These are a hearty treat or snack that is great to have on hand after a long walk or a treat to enjoy on the deck in the sunshine like Rufus has been doing lately.

Bark Gobble Soft Bakes Turkey Recipe, 4 oz.

We received a similar soft bake treat previously that Rufus did not eat so I wasn't optimistic that he would eat these. I was wrong! Rufus had probably too many of these because my daughter was feeding them to him, but he gobbled each one down so quickly. These soft cookies are made with turkey, cranberries, and raspberries. These are the perfect sweet yet healthy treat to give to Rufus.

Verdict: BarkBox was a big hit for Rufus this month! He loved all of the treats, even the duck chew stick. I was surprised to see how much he enjoyed the soft bakes, but I am guessing the sweet cranberry and raspberries helped. I am always happy to add more jerky sticks to our collection especially since we are almost out of our previous bag. These treats are always so healthy with an attention on the ingredients, and they each come in resealable bags which allows us to use them over time safely and take them with us on walks. The toys month after month are always amazing! They are so cute and Rufus truly enjoys cuddling and playing with each one, and that is saying a lot since he isn't a big toy dog. This box always delivers from food to toys and the best part is that it comes right to our door. A little bit of love and attention for our dear Rufus!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, your first box will be the May box.

Value Breakdown: At $35.00 per month + free shipping for this box, each of the 5 items has an average cost of $7.00.

Barkbox the last couple of months is giving me old stock boxes instead of the advertised box of the month. It makes me sad because I want to get what is reviewed, but instead get a box from last year! Why are they doing this? Are only the review sites guaranteed to get the current theme of the month? I would have loved the turtle toy!

“Oinky Jerky Sticks Pork Recipe w/Apples” — apart from our Bark Box subscription, can we order several bags of this particular item?

Thank you.

Be careful with these Duck sticks there have been several issues with dogs getting ill, throwing up blood and even one death. It is another company’s product not made by Barkbox personally and they are investigating.
