Crated with Love February 2021 Review

Can you believe it is the beginning of March already? I know I sure can't. Like I have mentioned in previous reviews, my husband and I enjoy winter and take advantage of the snow and cold by snowmobiling, as you can see in the photo above. That being said, it's hard to find new and exciting ways to connect once the kids are tucked into bed. Sure, we could watch a movie or play a game of cribbage, but sometimes I just want something more. That's where this box comes in! This was our second date night courtesy of Crated with Love and after our first adventure, I was excited to see how this month's “Route 66” theme would play out. While we have found ourselves on a few road trips throughout the years, this particular route is one we haven’t experienced yet, but after this box, we just might have to. Read below to see what we received this month.

Like last month, I was very impressed with the presentation of this box. Everything in it fits the theme and coordinates beautifully. We received a thick cardstock postcard with a fun illustration depicting exactly what to expect from this month's date. This piece is fun to read and a great intro to our date, getting us amped up for Route 66!

To set the mood, we received the link to this month’s “Kickin’ It On Route 66” playlist. Featuring artists like The Rolling Stones, Eagles, The Moxies, and The Runaways, this list is full of hits that are perfect for a road trip, and will be one I use on our car ride to South Dakota in a few months! On the opposing side, we received a list of contents, letting us know exactly what we received in the box.

Date Guide

To start our date (once the tunes were going of course), we opened up our date guide. This handy booklet guides us through our date step-by-step. Starting with an introduction, we are led through the date with clear instructions on how to play each game, what the objective of each activity is, along with fun tips, trivia, and ways to continue the date. Sticking with the theme and creating a really fun experience, this guide is a crucial component of this box.

Sunglasses

Everyone knows a road trip isn’t complete without a pair of shades, so this month Crated with Love included two snazzy pairs that feature a wood grain-inspired look reminiscent of a woodie station wagon that would be perfect for a road trip. For the time being, my kids appreciated having them in the back seat on the way to school, which I consider a win.

Don't we look awesome?!

The Alphabet Game

With the tunes blasting, our sunglasses on, and the mood set, we started our “road trip” by playing “The Alphabet Game.” We received two scorecards and had two minutes to fill out different categories of items using the letters A-Z. If you are familiar with the game Scattergories, you will have no trouble with this game. Our scorecard had lists printed on the front and back for 10 different categories. My husband isn’t much for word games, but he did humor me and play a few rounds and almost won! Yipes!

It would be a really good idea to copy these scorecards so you can play these again, or do them as a double date!

Roadside Attractions Game

Heading westward on our date, we stopped and played another game. This time we received a deck of cards with popular landmarks on one side, and personal characteristics on the other. Deciding which way you play is up to you. Each player is given five cards numbered 1-5, and you rank each landmark or attribute by how you think your partner would answer. We played based on popular landmarks, and most of the time we were either on point or one away - I guess that’s what 17 years of being together does to a couple!

Easy and fun, this game could even be played with your kids.

Trivia Game

This road trip is all about the games, and I am okay with that! Pre-COVID, game nights were a monthly occurrence at our house, and I actually have a game room in our home. Like I said above, my husband isn’t quite as enthusiastic about games, but he knows how much I love them and will play to make me happy ←-that’s true love right?! Anyways, our adventure continues, stopping only for this trivia game. Included were mini cars (so adorable by the way) used as pawns to move across the United States for every trivia question you answer correctly. Let’s just say this game was short-lived because the questions were HARD! We played about 10 rounds and we didn’t get a single answer correct. Looks like we need to get out sightseeing more often to learn about all of these unique landmarks!

The Perfect Spot Game

As we reached our destination, we pulled up to a drive-in movie theatre, and with our pull-back cars in hand, we had to land in the parking lot without bumping into a parked car. This game was fun for my husband and me, as well as my kids the next day. If you bumped into a printed car, you had to follow the prompt on the back. I once had to get my husband a snack, but he had to bring me a drink. Fun and easy, and totally unique.

Tire Pressure Gauge

As a fun token of remembrance of this date, we received a Crated with Love tire pressure gauge. While we have a few of these in the garage, I can safely say we don't have a keychain version, so I clipped it to my keyring for fun.

Sticker

Again, we received a sticker upon completion of this box, and this month’s shiny Route 66 version actually caught my husband's eye. He didn’t love the Award sticker from last month, but this one actually got the okay to go on his toolbox!

Button Magnet

As another token of our completion, we received a button magnet. This magnet is sweet and tiny and looks great holding up my pictures on the fridge. I like looking back at our experiences through these magnets and reminiscing over our dates together.

Notepad

I swear one can never have enough scratch paper! This tiny sticky pad is perfect for jotting down small lists or love notes to your partner. My husband admitted that he enjoys the mushy love notes I've been sneaking into lunch pail on these little yellow sheets.

Future Challenge Cards

Behold, the fun doesn't need to end here! We received four extra dates that really do include a road trip! Each date includes a photo scavenger hunt and a destination over 100 miles away! Don't you worry, I already have them stashed in my road trip backpack for our trip to South Dakota in the coming months!

Last but not least, we have the completion card that congratulates us on winning the "Kickin' It On Route 66" badge. Hooray for us!

The Verdict: This month’s Crated with Love was unique and a lot of fun. I enjoyed "traveling" Route 66 with my husband through games. After being together for 17 years, we tend to know most of each other’s stories, but the friendly competition of the ABC game and the skill challenge of our race cars made for an exciting time together in a playful way. I found the curation of this box to be uniquely charming, and the physical items were fun. I know for a cost of $39.99 I could scour Pinterest for similar ideas, but the convenience of having all the items at my fingertips in such a well-presented manner is really handy. I would maybe like to see a couple more physical items in this box, but from the experience aspect, it can't be beat. I can't wait to see what theme we receive next month!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes. While you are not guaranteed to receive this box as your subscription box, you do have the opportunity to purchase it as a one-time date night box for $49.99.

Cocotique and Birchbox? They aren’t “only” hair products, but do seem to always have lots of hair stuff.
