March 2021 BeautyFIX Review

This month's box was missing the handy booklet it usually arrives with that lists all of the products inside. Let's unpack this box!

PCA Skin Purifying Mask, 0.25 oz. - Estimated Value $7.75 (buy 2 oz. for $62.00)

This is a weekly purifying mask that works to detoxify, smooth, and revitalize your skin. The mask is made with red algae and French red clay to purify your skin. Red wine extract, vitamin A and E soothe skin while neutralizing free radicals. Some of the other top ingredients include water, algae, montmorillonite, pumice, olivoyl hydrolyzed wheat protein, coco-glucoside, soybean oil, and grape seed oil. These all together help to create an even skin tone, stimulate cell turnover, and boost clarity. To use this mask, you just need to apply a thin layer, leave it on for about 3 to 5 minutes, start removing with warm water while massaging into skin in circular motions. I really loved this mask, but I will say that it was very exfoliating. I don't think I will use it on my skin every week, maybe every other, because it really does a great job of removing dead skin cells and buildup, but it felt pretty intense for my sensitive skin. I didn't experience any redness or irritation which is great, just really soft and smooth skin. I used this mask before bed and applied my night skincare routine, adding a bit more moisture to rehydrate my skin, and woke to a super soft and healthy glow. This is going to be a great mask to have on hand when I need a really deep exfoliation!

TULA Skincare Face Filter Blurring & Moisturizing Primer, 0.24 fl oz. - Estimated Value $8.17 (buy 1 fl oz. for $34.00)

I used to be a primer hater. Once I changed to a cream foundation though I realized how important a primer really is. I even went one day recently without a primer just to see and my makeup looked totally different, and not in a good way! I am totally loving this primer! It gives my skin that final extra boost of hydration, which I always need. It gives my skin a really smooth finish, perfect for makeup application, but it also has glow particles that are released on application to give a radiant application. This is made with chia seeds to boost your skin's natural radiance, licorice extract to brighten and even skin tone, turmeric extract to minimize redness and inflammation, and probiotic extracts to lock in moisture. I am so happy to have found another primer that works well with my skin and my foundation!

SkinMedica Facial Cleanser, 1 oz. - Estimated Value $6.33 (buy 6 oz. for $38.00)

This cleanser is working really well for me! I have been using the same cleanser since I was 17, but this was the first that I've tried that I've also loved. It leaves my skin feeling and looking clean, removes makeup perfectly, without making my skin feel stripped and dry. It also makes a really nice lather without having to use a ton of it, a big key for me. The top ingredients in this cleanser are Camellia Oleifera Leaf Extract to prevent free radical damage and pro vitamin B5 to soothe, calm, and bind moisture to surface skin layers. Other ingredients include water, disodium laureth sulfosuccinate, cocamidopropyl hydroxysultaine, sodium lauryl sulfoacetate, PEG-150 bentaerythrityl tetrastearate, and camellia oleifera leaf extract.

ClarityRx Daily Dose of Water Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Serum, 1 fl oz. - Retail Value $72.00

I am sort of new to the HA game, but I have been loving how it makes my skin feel and look. My skin is naturally very dry, but this is a great product for all skin types. I recently had to toss a bottle of HA that I was really liking after doing some research on one of the ingredients in it that sort of freaked me out. I was really happy to receive this bottle to replace it with though and that the ingredient list is pretty straightforward! It is made with Purified Water, hyaluronic acid, phenoxyethanol, and ethylhexylglycerin. This is a little on the sticky side, but I found that if I am applying it right away to damp skin, then it glides right on. The key is also to apply your moisturizer right away, which I also found to help with the stickiness.

RMS Beauty Lip2Cheek in Smile - Retail Value $36.00

I love cream blushes so much! Now that I am getting my dry skin under control, they work even better, and I can't wait to use them in the summer when I have a healthy glow. This is a really beautiful cream formula that you can use on your lips and cheeks. It is highly pigmented so it is very buildable, a little can go a long way, or you can make it super sheer. This cream is made with argan, coconut oil, cocoa, and shea butter to hydrate, blend, and giving lasting power that is similar to a stain. This color is a bit too coral for me right now on my cheeks, but I know this is going to be my go-to come the summer. I can't wait!

Verdict: This month's BeautyFIX brought a refresh to some staple products for me. I was on the hunt for a new Hydraulic Acid serum and was so excited to see that this bottle was high quality with a simple ingredient list. It is already helping to keep my skin hydrated and that flaky dryness away. I was really surprised by how much I like the cleanser, but it is doing a great job at removing dirt and makeup without leaving my skin feeling extra dry. The primer is another staple that I am loving! It hydrates my skin while giving me a flawless application for my foundation. It is also super lightweight so it just glides over my other products without feeling like too much. The mask is a bit too much exfoliation for me to use weekly, but it really worked wonders on my dry skin. I loved the results so am planning to use it every other week or so for that extra smoothness. The cream foundation is a big winner for me, I can't wait to use it in the summer.

This month's box has a value of $130.25 which is great for an under $25 box. This month had a lot of sample sizes, which I know can sometimes make the box feel a little less exciting at times. I sometimes find smaller sizes to be helpful in boxes like this because it allows me to not feel overwhelmed with products, and it gives me a chance to test a product over time before deciding if I want the product in a larger size. I really have been loving this box, the quality products that they send each month, and giving my skin the chance to test new products and brands to see what works.

This is the worst box I’ve seen in a long time and it’s sad they put a Dermstore full sized product in there. People don’t want their private label and the ingredients aren’t good. I wouldn’t even use it as a foot cream.

I used to love this box. I haven’t purchased one for a year and a half. The problem I have is that they have one hero and a bunch of tiny items. If the hero is a miss for me, the box isn’t worth it. I use hyaluronic daily which can be had much cheaper. I’m still holding out hope for some nice spf products for spring/summer

That blush is great!

How BeautyFix has fallen. 5 items, one full sized (blush?), and so very disappointing. This used to be the box to beat, now it’s almost sad. If you look in years past, they ALWAYS had several full-sized items and usually 7,8 or 9 products per box. Now it’s 5 products, 4 of which are samples sizes. Whahhhhh??????

If you get the RMS and don’t want it I’ll swap! My list isn’t up to date but I have a ton of stuff.

Great review, Taryn!

Do you mind saying what your since-you-were-17 cleanser is? I noticed from some of your descriptions that my skin has many similarities to yours, and I always look for cleansers that might agree with me.

I have been using DMK Deep Pore Cleanser, linked below. My Mom owns a Salon & Spa and this is the brand that they use, which I have just also always used. I have noticed though that my skin is really changing so I am sort of on the hunt for that new perfect cleanser.

Although they have a lot of sample sizes, at least with this box you know they are the real ones and not bought from a third party like some are. It states right on the dermstore site that they are authorized sellers of these products and that makes me feel better about buying from them 🤗

Denise! I could not agree more! I’m happy to receive a smaller size as long as I know it’s a real version of the actual product. I cannot stand all the “full size” garbage most boxes give you that literally isn’t the even the same formula as the version the brand sells in stores. Or worse yet, it’s the box’s “own” brand that has no real website or retail presence. So pointless. I’ll gladly pony up for trial sizes from a reputable box!

I wonder where the April spoilers are? They are normally released on the 25th..

Beautyfix released two on fb. The dermstore brand day cream full size and wander mascara full size. The day cream actually looks nice! 👍🏼

The later they withhold the spoilers, the more chance for a crappy box. And like Milena said, they are not consistent with when they release the spoilers.

Milena

A few months ago they were releasing spoilers a few days into the new month lol. I don’t expect them on time anymore!

I’ve been trying to keep BF as my only box, so I live for their spoilers. Grrrrr

Thanks for giving me the update! I haven’t been subbed very long 🙂
