Beauty Heroes February 2021 Review feat. YINA
Beauty Heroes included a handy info booklet featuring our brand this month: YINA.
YINA Recovery Body Treatment, 200 mL - Retail Value $125.00
First off, this pot is HUGE! I mean, it should be for $125, right? The golden color of the balm inside is gorgeous, and the scent of spices, ginger, and orange is so earthy and comforting. The texture here is hard and dense, and since it's cold outside, it can feel a little challenging to scrape the right amount out of the pot. I am guessing that will improve with warmer weather. It takes very little of this stuff to cover a lot of skin, and that hard balm quickly starts to melt with the warmth of your body, turning into more of what feels like an oil treatment. It might feel heavy if you are not used to body oils, but take a little extra time to massage this golden goodness, and I think you will love it! I did notice on my super fair skin that it left behind a little golden tint, but it was actually pretty flattering and made me look like I had had a little sun recently (which I totally haven't!). Ingredient-wise, the main influence behind this blend is traditional Chinese medicine and the power of massage to flush out harmful toxins and ingredients. The inclusion of ingredients like cinnamon and ginger are warming and stimulating to the skin, and the Chinese herb bai zhu has been used for generations to brighten the skin and prevent water retention. Even aside from all these benefits, this balm is wonderfully hydrating and a true treat for winter skin, or even just chronically dry skin (hello!) due to the shea butter inside. I love using this before bed, right after a shower, to lock in moisture on my notoriously break-out prone legs. It has totally upped my hydration game, and feels like a really nice comforting and calming ritual at a time where a lot has been going on behind the scenes in my life. Combine it with the item below? Magic.
YINA Gua Sha Bian Stone - Retail Value $50.00
I am already a huge Gua Sha fan, and so are my facial clients! I love using a chilled jade or opal glass Gua Sha in the middle of a massage and hearing how delighted they are when the coolness touches their skin. Gua Sha stones are stimulating to the skin and promote circulation. They also have those harder edges that allow them to massage those muscles that we often don't even think about in our faces or that fingertips simply can't work as effectively. They are also known for their ability to move lymph and toxins and flush them out, though, truthfully, if you are after that kind of result I recommend a whole-body treatment! All of the stones I already own are smaller and sized for the face, so this larger body version is really exciting. It is made of Bian stone, which means I can disinfect it between clients if I want, which adds a while new level of appeal. I don't know if I could give this one up from my own personal use though, so I guess I should just add to cart, right? Anyway, my favorite use for this is on my legs and arms. The coolness of the stone combined with the warming effect of the balm that also arrived in this box is a calming sensation that feels incredible. Kind of like a spa at home! I wasn't familiar with Gua Sha techniques for the body, so I was also thrilled to see this stone arrived with an informative booklet filled with details on how to use it on your body as well as explanations regarding the different surfaces of the stone shape itself.
Verdict: Beauty Heroes was pretty darn fantastic this month. I know a lot of people are kind of on Gua Sha burnout because so many tiny ones arrive in different boxes, but in my opinion, this one was extra special. I absolutely loved the golden balm that arrived with it, and found the extra info that accompanies the tool really helpful! As someone who wants to learn more and more about this ancient practice, this box was a pure joy. The value was nice too, with a retail of $175 for an investment of $58.95. I can't say I would have ever thought to invest in either of these items at full price, but trying them at this sort of subscription box discount really won me over. I totally plan on splurging on an extra stone for my clients, and if I ever get to the bottom of this massive pot of body treatment, I would consider treating myself to it again at full price as well.
