Quirky Crate January 2021 Review

Quirky Crate samples one item from a featured artist or brand each month. This month features Ruslana Vasiukova. She is an illustrator from Ukraine who gets inspiration from musings of everyday life; this month's box features one of her weekly planners. This info card gives you some insight into her background as well as some social media info.

On the flip side of the card, Quirky Crate includes an itemized list of each product and its value. This month's theme is "Make it Happen".

Time to get quirky!

Make it Happen Socks - Retail Value $9.00

This pair of socks gives me such positive vibes. Cacti, coffee, and sewing machines- a seemingly random collection of objects, but I think they all fit under the umbrella of this months' theme. I am always impressed with the quality of QC's socks, which seems to get even better from month to month.

I wear a size 7.5 shoe, and these fit me very comfortably.

Ruslana Vasiukova Planner - Retail Value $8.00

Every year I buy a planner, I start with the right intention, but I can never keep up. I think a weekly pad is the key to keeping me organized; there are no specific dates to add to the pressure of keeping up with the days, weeks and months that seem to just rapidly fly by. If I have a particularly busy week ahead, I foresee myself utilizing and checking in with this planner that can look cute on either my fridge or my kitchen counter.

Can't Stop Won't Stop Bag - Listed Value $35.00

While I appreciate the message, I am not very fond of the overall look of this purse; however, I am very excited that Quirky Crate has their name right above the screen of this retro phone! Yay! I also really like the shape of this bag, which is rigid and perfect to protect bigger palettes or makeup brushes while traveling. This bag comes equipped with the usual removable chain strap and gold hardware.

Cable Saver - Listed Value $5.99

I know, I am so easily amused, but how SWEET is this croc cable saver? I absolutely love it! I don't know if it will actually prolong the life of my charger, but I am happy to have this cute accessory to look at every day. I love anything that turns a mundane task or item into a more cheerful event. This small rubber crocodile definitely needs to be utilized while out of the reach of my toddler, so it will live on my vanity.

Everyday Hero Pencils - Retail Value $5.00

After college, I vowed to never use a pencil again, but even though I won't be writing with these beauties, I will absolutely keep them displayed in my office. Where were these in 2020 when we all needed a hero or two!? Well, they are here now, which is what matters, right? This package has two unsharpened pencils, each equipped with an eraser in the shape of a cape. This set makes me want to yell "GIRL POWER!" but I will settle for typing it here.

2020 Award Enamel Pin - Listed Value $10.00

2020 was a trainwreck, and those of us who survived did not make it out unscathed. I am not one to usually pat myself on the back, and luckily, now I don't have to. I'd like to thank Quirky Crate for this thoughtful award, which doubles as a representation of how adaptable the average human being can be. This funny yet dark little pin would make an excellent gift for anyone, really.

Beary Cute Mittens - Listed Value $18.00

I will always be grateful for gloves and mittens in subscription boxes; I constantly lose them, so I like to be all stocked up. This furry pair of pandas will be hard to misplace! My son has taken a liking to them; after a little tug of war, I ended up submitting. They run a little small, so anyone with a bigger hand than me will have a hard time fitting into them. These little guys keep my hands super warm, but when that happens, you can button the panda mitten down to expose your fingers for some air.

The Verdict: January's Quirky Crate was adorbs! I love the "Make it Happen" themed items as well as the little critter items like the cable saver and the panda mittens.  The total value of this box adds up to $90.99, over double the $36.95 + $8.50 shipping subscription cost. I feel seen when I open this box, and I know other subscribers who enjoy its contents are also unboxing saying "awww," "cute!," or "YASS!". It is a fun, treat-yo'self type of subscription, which makes it worth every penny to me.

I’m a self-proclaimed “cool mom” who loves a little, who am I kidding, a lot of razzle-dazzle. I have been box-obsessed for over 10 years, and I am always on the hunt for new beauty, fun flair and trendy clothing boxes. A fun night for me includes an exfoliating foot mask and a bag of Dot's Pretzels while binging Rupaul’s Drag Race.

I really enjoyed this month’s box! The mittens will make a great gift for a panda loving niece. The pencils I plan on giving to an essential worker as a thank you. I have a bunch of those bite cord protectors. I treat my cords roughly so they help. I bought 30 from Ali for 80 cents each. They are fun stocking stuffers too.
I wasn’t thrilled that quirky put their name on the bag though. If it just said quirky I’d be okish but I don’t need to show the whole world that my purse is from a sub box. Kinda annoyed me that it became advertising. I won’t carry this as a purse. I decided to use it to store back up cords and chargers.
I was loving the pin. I had it in my purse , was going to put it in my car. Then I ran into the woman who owns a local business. On top of dealing with 2020 she also had a stroke. Now that is surviving 2020. So I had to give her the reward. I wish I had a stack if these pins to give away.
I love this sub. I have enough nieces and nephews to share with. If they keep putting quirky crate on their bags, I don’t think I’ll keep my sub though. I like dorky cute bags but not with advertising on them.

I guess I didn’t really consider it as being advertising, but great point! I, too, wish I had a stack of those pins to give away; everyone deserves a pat on the back for making it through, especially essential workers. Thanks for reading, Hallie!
