BarkBox is a reader-favorite monthly subscription box for dogs.

BarkBox customizes your box to your dog’s size. For reference, this review is for the medium size, which is recommended for dogs 20-50 lbs. We recently changed the size because Tucker, our Standard Poodle, is the most playful pup in the house when it comes to toys.

Rufus is our beloved rescue dog! He is around 40 lbs. and is 12 years old so he can be a bit picky about toys but loves treats!

If you have a younger pup or just one who needs toys of the rough and tumble variety, I highly recommend trying the Super Chewer subscription (read our reviews to learn more!)

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

January 2021 BarkBox "Sit, Stay, Spa Day" Review

The January box included 2 toys, 2 bags of treats, and a chew - this is close to what you can expect with your monthly subscription, though it does vary for everyone once in a while.

Sometimes, these items are marked as 'Sold Out' on the BarkBox app - but they have a little 'As Seen In BarkBox' section of the BarkShop where you can grab items featured in monthly themes.

Jones Natural Chews Beef Trachea, 1 piece

Rufus hasn't had a big bone like this in a long time only because we thought that they were upsetting his stomach at one point. Since his tummy issues stopped once we stopped giving him bones like this, we just never really bought them for him again. Big mistake though! Rufus was a little unsure about this treat at first, but once he got into it he was so excited and he didn't have any tummy issues after eating it. This is a beef trachea treat, sort of gross but yummy for him, and it looks like there aren't any other ingredients. So this was good for him in terms of ingredients and enjoyement!

Bark Beef Crunchies, 1.5 oz

At first glance of the bag, I immediately saw 100% beef, and the quote "fresh beef is the whole treat." They are also air-dried to keep their natural flavor without adding any grease or extra fat. Since they are air-dried they are crisp and super crunchy, great for doggies! Rufus was obsessed with these, I couldn't get a photo of him because he just gobbled them right down. I love that the bag is resealable so I know these treats are going to stay fresh for a while if they last us that long.

Bark Beef Jerky, 4 oz.

Another delicious and healthy treat that Rufus gobbled down! This jerky is grain-free and made with beef, vegetable glycerin, and salt. That's it! The jerky was thick and seemed chewy but easy for Rufus to eat. He kept scratching at the door where we keep his treats after I gave him one of these so it is safe to say these are his new favorites. I feel so good giving him a few of these as rewards, especially after he comes inside from going out into the snow and cold temperatures quickly. Again, they come in a resealable bag which I always appreciate.

Bark Squeakulent Toy - Retail Value $10.00

This is probably the cutest toy I have ever seen. I honestly want to use this as a display in my room or in my daughter's room. Rufus doesn't typically go for toys these days, but he seemed to really like the crinkle sound that this like guy makes. He has recently been enjoying the new bed that we put in my husband's home office (he gets to be in there with my husband all day, free of the kiddos) so we decided to keep this toy in there with him. He keeps it on his bed and plays with it here and there. If nothing else it is just so cute to have around.

Bark Pure Pup Juice Cleanse - Retail Value $10.00

My husband thought this was a pill bottle at first until I told him it was juice. He didn't believe me though until my daughter came in and started pretending drinking from it. So there you go, hahaha! This has a loud squeaker that you can actually get to make noise pretty easily. Again, Rufus doesn't go wild over toys anymore, but this is the perfect size for him. My son has been playing catch with him with this toy a bit and they both seem to love it! The toy itself is really well made with a super thick fabric that you can tell isn't going to rip.

Verdict: BarkBox was so much fun for my whole family! Rufus doesn't get a ton of attention anymore, or he is being shuffled around the kids and their toys. The reality though is that we all love him dearly, so getting boxes like this for him give us a set time to shower him with some love, attention, toys, and treats! The toys in this box are the best that I have seen! The little succulent is my favorite, but the juice is also amazing and so well made. The treats were all favorites for Rufus, but the jerky was the one that he kept going back for more of. I was so pleased to see treats that had no more than three ingredients so everything was so healthy and fresh. We want to keep Rufus happy and healthy for hopefully many more years so it feels great to be able to give him healthy treats every month. Plus, they help me when I can't get him to go outside when it's super cold or raining.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, your first theme will be the February box!

Value Breakdown: At $35.00 per month + free shipping for this box, each of the 5 items has an average cost of $7.00.

I was missing a toy from the super chewer version. They were out of stock of the toy my dog was supposed to receive, so they are sending an older toy from an earlier box.

Ditto! And my black lab, Sammi, tries to open it by herself, she gets so excited!

I love my bark box, and enjoy it as much as my Milo does, and their customer service is extraordinary.
