December 2020 Purple Vertigo Review

Included in our Purple Vertigo box was an info card with details and notes on the scents of the month. One of the cool things about this subscription is that when you subscribe, they will send you a list of scents you can choose from. Don't feel like choosing? No worries. You will get the scents chosen for that month by default. For the sake of this review, we didn't make any choices.

Now, on to the candles!

Both arrived wrapped in purple tissue with a branded sticker. I was legitimately shocked at how huge these candles were. I think I am used to the 4 and 8 oz sizes that normally arrive in boxes but these 16 oz baddies were impressive! They should have a burn-time of 100+ hours!

A note on the prices below: I took them from the Purple Vertigo Etsy Store. All of the 16 oz candles are $25. Now, be warned, some of the candle stickers contain bad words, edgy phrases, and other really hilarious and delightfully inappropriate things.

I enjoy this sort of humor, but if you don't or you are browsing with your kids, this is me giving you a heads up!

Fraser Fir Candle, 16 oz - Retail Value $25.00

While I am not usually a wintery scent sort of fan, I do adore evergreen scented anything. It's so woodsy and fresh in my house! This candle has notes of woods (of course) like oak, cedar, fir, and other wintery green things but there is also a sharp hint of citrus and a warm and brooding ambery base. It was the sort of candle that didn't feel like the scent was super strong until you left the room then came back in. It was more of an undercurrent of cold winter branches that reached throughout my entire first floor. Wonderful!

Pepperberry Wreath Candle, 16 oz - Retail Value $25.00

Generally speaking, I am not a berry fan. So I didn't have the highest hopes for this candle. Upon sniffing though, I realized it was more of a classic holiday scent that combined evergreen boughs with tart (not sweet!) berries. Think more cranberry than strawberry! There are also holiday spices and some woodiness hidden in there too! This one filled a room with more of a noticeable presence than the Fraser Fir, though I would consider both wonderfully fragrant!

Verdict: My first Purple Vertigo delivery was a hit! The candles were both HUGE and beautifully scented. They burned evenly and are lasting forever. This is an interesting pricing model because a month-to-month subscription saves you about $1 over buying them directly from the PV Etsy shop while a 12-month commitment saves you about $125 a year over simply buying your candles. If you are someone who plans on new candles every month, the fact that you can select your scents every delivery makes that year commitment super tempting! I think the quality and sheer size of these candles makes them more than worth their cost at a $25 price point if you decide to try out a month-to-month.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, you'll receive the January box.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

For the price I’d rather buy bath and body works as they have pretty outsides plus smell good.

Joy-Not the Other One

This is why I love this site. It’s so interesting to see how incredibly different people’s opinions and preferences are. I am the exact opposite here because what I love about these as opposed to B&BW is the clean non-cluttered jar. I love the scents and throw on B&BW candles but I hate the decorations on the outside. So this is right up my alley.

I probably wouldn’t get this sub. because the candles are too big. I like to change things up and I don’t have room to store half used candles and if I don’t like the scent I have wasted lots of money.

I believe there are different sizes.
