Bespoke Post "Antipasti" Review

My husband and I enjoy a good charcuterie plate and sometimes we'll have a light dinner so that we can put one together as a date night snack after the kids go to bed. This Antipasti box from Bespoke Post seemed like it would be perfect for us! The back of this card had a nice little checklist for us to make sure we have all of the charcuterie essentials. In case you're like my mother and have never heard of a charcuterie board (she says it sounds like what they referred to as hors d'oeuvres, you know back when social gatherings were a thing, sigh), it's a board filled with any combination of cured meats and cheeses, nuts and dried fruits, pickled vegetables, crackers, bread, mustards, and jams. You can get as creative as you want with it using specialty cheese or fancy fruit compotes, and I think there really is no limit to what you can include! If it sounds good to you, add it to your board and enjoy!

Acacia Cheese Gift Set by Boska

The main item in this box was the draw for us, this nice round acacia wood board, and a set of cheese knives, which is something we don't have but could certainly use. When I first took this from the box, it was much smaller than I expected (the diameter is 10.5 inches), although admittedly I didn't really pay attention to the measurements before ordering. While it was a bit smaller than anticipated, it ended up holding a lot more than I thought it would (see photos further on in the review). The board is made from acacia wood and I really love the way they pieced the wood together with that lighter stripe in the middle. It's a really pretty board. and I love that it has a handle making it easy to carry to the table and the tiny hole at the end means you can hang it up for storage or display if you wanted to. It also features a nice groove around the edge which helps to catch any foods that may try to escape. It looks like this particular board is exclusive to Bespoke Post, but here is a similar one I found.

This set comes with three different cheese knives whose quality I would say is not quite on par with the boards, but they are useful nonetheless. They are made of stainless steel and composite and can handle both soft and hard cheese. The spade was very useful for spreading mustard and can cut harder cheeses while the center curved knife worked well for the softer goat cheese we had. As for the forked piece, I'm not sure I ever knew exactly what they were for, but apparently, it is meant to skewer and serve slices with.

Saucisson Sec Basque by Trois Petit Cochons, 8 oz - Retail Value $9.99

Included with our board were some items to get our charcuterie spread started. This French-style pork sausage is all-natural and free from gluten and nitrates. It is air-dried and contains Espelette pepper which is from France and has a mild heat to it. I was afraid it was going to be very fatty from the look of it, but fortunately, that was not the case. This sausage had a medium-hardness to it and a good texture. At first, there was kind of a funky taste (not bad), but my husband and I both thought it was good. Since the flavor was very mild it paired well with the next item we received.

Moutarde Basque by Trois Petit Cochons, 7 oz - Retail Value $4.99

This comes from the same company as our sausage and it was probably the standout item in this box for us! My husband does not like mustard, but both of us enjoyed this immensely and are happy that this jar has several servings in it! It had a sweet, tomato taste at first with a big bite that reminded me of horseradish. It had just enough spice and flavor that it didn't overwhelm anything we tried it with, but instead, it really complemented the other flavors. This is also made with the Espelette pepper which might be why it was so delicious when paired with the sausage!

Cornichons by Trois Petit Cochons, 6.5 oz - Buy a 12.4 oz jar for $4.49

Our last accompaniment was this jar of cornichons which are baby sour gherkins. First I have to note the cool jar design, which had a little plastic piece nested in the center that raised the gherkins so that you could easily grab them. So clever and helpful! The cornichons themselves were very tangy with a nice crisp crunch to them and this was another item that we really enjoyed.

I had to make do with what we had on hand but this was our finished board for the evening. In addition to the items provided in the box, we also have some cracked pepper crackers, rosemary crackers, Australian cheddar, truffle goat cheese, almonds, dried cranberries, dried mango, and some chocolates to finish it all off with. If you haven't experienced the cheeses and crackers from Aldi, I highly recommend them! I really dislike mushrooms (it's a texture thing), but I love truffles and the truffle goat cheese paired with the rosemary crackers is a yummy combination. This night, however, the Australian cheddar with the cracked pepper cracker, a slice of the saucisson, and a dab of the mustard was the winning combination of the evening.

Our plate paired nicely with some craft beers and a game of Jaipur, and even better, none of the kids got out of bed to interrupt us! That's a date night success, for sure!

Verdict: Our Bespoke Post box got lost in transit for the month of December, but once it arrived, it was certainly worth the wait! The board is so pretty, the knives are very useful, and the food items were delicious. This was the perfect box for my husband and me to enjoy together and I'm sure these items will all make another appearance very soon for our next date night in.

As for the value, our board was exclusive to Bespoke Post so I'm not sure what it retails for, but I have to think it would at least be equal to, (but most likely more) than the $35 one I found on the Boska site (another example would be this set, a Boska exclusive to William's Sonoma, that retails for $99.95). The food items came to about $17, bringing the minimum total to $52 as a really rough estimate, which is just over the $48.95 ($45 + $3.95 shipping) cost of this box. Considering we usually get a great value from this subscription, I am not too concerned with how much the value exceeded the cost of the box, especially since we enjoyed and will use every single item! We will probably even be ordering more of that mustard when we run out!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, this box is currently sold out, but it is possible it may come back in stock in the future!

Value Breakdown: This box costs $45 + $3.95 shipping, and while it was difficult to determine the exact value of this box, my husband and I were both very happy with the supplies this box provided for making a delicious charcuterie board for a cozy date night in!

I liked ours as well. We absolutely loved the mustard, liked the sausage, and disliked the cornichons. We paired it with cheeses and grapes and crackers, and munched on it while playing scrabble on NYE.

A good box, I kind of wish it had been paired with a cheese.

I can definitely see how the Cornichons might not be for everyone and a cheese would have been a great item, too. Scrabble is another of our date night faves! 🙂
