The Beauty Box by Bombay & Cedar December 2020 Review

The box comes with a booklet of information that lists out the products and highlights some of the brands found within.

Single Use Facial Mask in Clean Slate by Dirt Bag Beauty - Retail Value $3.50

I was really into this mask, so much so that I wish one more packet came in the box. I received the Clean Slate packet, but you could have received Pretty in Pink or Earth Angel. The Clean Slate Vegan mask is designed for more oily skin to help breakouts, loosen blocked pores, and remove trapped dirt and oil. It is made with French green clay, organic besan, organic noni, organic marshmallow root, organic orange peel, organic coconut water, and organic lavender. While my skin is far from oily, I really enjoyed this mask! The instructions say to pour the contents into a bowl, add a few splashes of water, apply to your face, and leave on for 10 minutes before rinsing with warm water. I added a tad too much water, so maybe that's why I didn't find it to be too drying for my already dry skin. I felt that the mask provided a really great exfoliation while clearing some breakouts that I had on my forehead and chin and reducing redness. The mask went on wet but hardened quickly. My skin felt clean and smooth afterwards, I just might have to order more of these packets!

Brush Cleanser by Aesthetica, 2.5 fl oz. - Retail Value $17.00

Makeup Brush Cleaning Bowl by Revele - Retail Value $8.45

Thanks to LiveGlam Brush Club, I am really stepping up my brush game these days. Keeping your brushes clean is really important and something that I have been trying to get into a habit of doing more often. Not only does cleaning your brushes help remove bacteria and old makeup, but it can also help improve your application since cleaning restores your brushes to their original luster. This cleanser is safe for natural or synthetic brushes and can even be used on makeup sponges. As a bonus to this cleanser, we also received this silicone cleaning bowl. You can use the bowl with the cleanser to soak multiple brushes, and you can also use the textures at the bottom of the bowl as a way to buff and exfoliate your brushes. It was really cool to see all the makeup buildup come off as I scrubbed each brush on the bottom of the bowl. This was a really fun product duo to receive!

Hibiskiss Balm + Cheek by Crazy Rumors - Retail Value $4.99

I have to admit, I wasn't too excited when I saw this balm. Most balms like this rarely have a nice tint or they are too shiny for me. That wasn't the case with this balm though! The balm itself has a shea butter base so it is super hydrating, and it has a sweet berry flavor that has a floral-like scent to it. You can either go light with the balm to make it look more like a gloss/balm, or you can add a few layers to make it darker. What I really loved was the pinky-red color that it faded into as I wore it. I normally love a good matte lipstick, but this balm is so light and lovely! I keep reaching for it and love that subtle red glow that it gives me.

11th Hour Eyeshadow Stick by Alleyoop - Retail Value $24.00

I received this eyeshadow stick, but you could have also received 6 Shades of Burgundy by Cougar Beauty. I was really excited to give this shadow stick a try ever since I recently fell in love with a similar liquid shadow product. These shadow sticks are compact and easy to use – and store – with no need for a brush. I could see this being great to take with you on a trip or weekend getaway. This is a cream formula that is smudge- and crease-proof, applying as a soft matte finish. Honestly, I'm totally in love with this product! It was so easy to use, I was able to build to my desired darker shade, I was able to blend it out easily, and it had intense staying power! I actually cried a bit the day that I wore this and what I noticed was that the shadow didn't really smudge or change at all, which isn't typical with most shadows. I also loved that in certain lights the color almost had a rose gold-tone to it. This shade is a bit lighter than what I like to wear in the winter months when I am really fair, but I can see this being my go-to shadow in the summer. What a great product find!

Soothing Night Cream by Professor Herb, 2.11 fl oz. - Retail Value $23.12 (€18.99)

This is another product that I am really loving but wasn't initially too excited about. This night cream is made with eucalyptus and menthol (naturally derived from mint) and is recommended to use only at night. The cream is made specifically to boost collagen, restore elasticity, renew cells, and nourish your skin while you sleep. The menthol in this cream is used to cool and soothe irritated skin and is known for treating acne. Eucalyptus has so many healing properties and is amazing for your skin! It has antiseptic properties that help to clear acne and other skin irritations. I haven't been one for night creams, but this past year my skin has really changed and has been prone to more breakouts, it is also just so dry. I have been using this cream at night along with a few other of my skincare products that I have always used and wow, I am already noticing a difference. My makeup is going on a lot smoother, I don't feel as tight and dry, the dry flakey patches that I had are now gone, and I haven't noticed as many small breakouts recently. The only thing that I changed with my product routine is this night cream and I am noticing the glow. I am going to have to order another bottle soon because I know this is going to be gone fast!

Tongue Cleaner by Boka LLC - Retail Value $9.00

I did a lot of Ayurvedic medicine research and worked with an Ayurvedic doctor many years ago when I was trying to improve my health. It is a truly wonderful practice that dates back to ancient times. One thing I always read was how tongue scraping was such a big thing in Ayurvedic medicine and has been for thousands of years. Most bacteria responsible for bad breathe live on your tongue, which is why tongue cleaning is so important and something a lot of us maybe aren't doing enough of, or properly. This stainless steel cleaner is small and easy to use to gently remove the yucky bacteria from your tongue to improve breath!

5 Piece Manicure Set by Revele - Retail Value $9.18

Does anyone else feel sad when they see travel-size items, remembering how fun it was to travel? I know we will again one day, but sometimes getting items like this in a box makes me feel a little blue. I have a lot of nail products that I really love using at home so I don't have a huge need for these smaller items right now. However, my parents have a house in Florida that we will hopefully be able to visit again in the future, and I thought that this set would be perfect to take to keep there. That way we can have a full manicure set that my whole family can use, and we will know that it is there for us each time we return. This set includes 1 large nail clipper, 1 slanted nail clipper, 1 nail file, 1 slanted tweezer, and 1 scissor. Even though the pieces are small, they are each very sturdy and work really well.

Verdict: December's The Beauty Box by Bombay & Cedar was filled with big hits and a few misses. I am truly obsessed with the eyeshadow stick and can't wait to use it more in the summer months. The night cream has already changed the texture of my skin and I've barely used it for a week yet! I was shocked to fall in love with a balm, especially since I'm usually not a glossy/balm type of gal. The brush cleanser and bowl are practical items that I know I will use and will help keep my new brushes looking like new. The Clean Slate mask was amazing and worked to clear away some recent breakouts, but the packet was so small I wish the box came with one more to try. The manicure set was a bit of a bummer only because it reminded me that I haven't been anywhere other than my house in almost a year, but I know we are all in the same boat and this too shall pass. I calculated a retail value of around $99.24. At $31.95 for the box, it's a great value but is lower than the November box's value. Even though the value was lower and this month's items were on the smaller side, I still found some gems. This box does a great job of bringing new and unique products that I would normally never try on my own, like the balm, and then other more practical items, like the manicure set. This really is that perfect box for beauty lovers who are looking for a variety of products and brands to test!

Great review, Taryn! Man, I’ve been crying some myself lately. Makes me feel better but boy does it make a mess on the face 😭

Glad to hear that eyeshadow has some staying power!

Honestly this box always seems so random to me.

I have the Boka Sonic toothprush and their toothpaste (love the Cocoginger! Elamint is pretty good, too.) I got the tongue scraper in the “free kit with purchase” deal when I signed up. I feel like, personally, I would have preferred the metal bit to be a little less tall. It’s not too wide for my mouth, but it still feels a little over-sized height wise. But it’s very handy to have, and great to use in the mornings.

Overall, a nice looking box! I re-use face sonic cleansers that aren’t rechargeable that I’ve gotten in a couple boxes to ‘scrub’ my brushes on, but that bowl looks very nice for the job.

I’m going to go hunting for that lip balm. It makes your lips look like how I wish balms would make mine look.

And I love a good night cream. At my age, it’s essential if I want to maintain my face. Lol. I’ve been going between Glow Recipe Avocado and Grown Alchemist detox cream. I like it better than the avocado. The one in this box sounds good. I still have minor acne issues and some other small irritated spots that I’m trying to make go away so I may have to hunt it down too. 🙂

I am still really loving the night cream and my husband is even starting to try it!

Not sure if anyone noticed but that brush cleaner says made in China on the package but there’s a sticker just above it that says made in the USA. Seems highly unethical to do this.

That is wierd! It’s allowable in some cases for products if there was a step done in the other country – e.g. a “made in China” onesie embroidered with a design in the U.S.A can put “made in the USA” in advertising – I think anyway, it’s been a while since I researched it.

But it’s wierd to just have a USA barcode sticker, when the product package says made in China. Maybe the “made in China” refers just to the packaging?
