This is a review of the $69 Black Membership that includes 3 pieces a month.

Switch Subscription Box November 2020 Review

Everything arrived in a super slick and very high-end looking black box. Inside, there were multiple info cards explaining all the deets about this subscription. All of these cards are really informative and helpful in explaining all the facets of this service. They cover care tips, return instructions, and even a guide if you fall head over heels in love with a piece, which... does... happen.

It looks like this month arrived in the older style bubble mailers rather than the newer cloth bags.

Let's see what I picked this month!

Sophie Monet The Confetti Earrings – Retail Value $150.00, Member Price $145.00

I picked these little wooden balls decked and studded in different stones because they were super unusual and colorful without being over the top. This review eventually does end up in "over the top" territory, but I started out sane with these little beauties. They were cheerful, lightweight, and just lovely. I love all of the different materials used here (I spotted turquoise, malachite, lapis, coral, and more!) and if you are also a crystal and rock hound, you are going to love these!

Too cute. And perfect for any outfit.

Chloe Gold Figure Earrings – Retail Value $395.00, Member Price $290.00

Ok, we are getting a little weirder here. Most of you know I am no stranger to weird and quirky jewelry, and believe it or not, this is only the second most out-there piece in this review! I picked these because they reminded me of my art history classes in college and the Venus of Willendorf statue found in Austria. Our pretty golden ladies are attached to a hinged hoop which gives them some movement. Their raised arms look like they are cradling my earlobes when worn.

Girl power!

The Twist Large Laughing Tears Emoji Necklace – Retail Value $508.00, Member Price $500.00

Ok, this necklace is really me at peak-Megan levels. The crying and also laughing emoji is my go-to in most forms of conversations where it is available to me. It speaks to happy moments, funny times, irony, and misery quite well, making it a perfect symbol for my 2020. This over the top piece is cast in gold and features blue sapphire tears and genuine diamond teeth. You bet if I had a spare $500 bucks (LOL!) I wouldn't be sending this back. This is the necklace 2020 deserves.

😂😂😂

The Verdict: My Switch pieces this month were actually really weird and wonderful. Sure, I tried to keep my choices to jewelry that normal humans might wear, but here we are. I do think the multicolored wooden ball earrings were a great attempt, and at least the Chloe earrings have an art history bend. The necklace, I make no apologies for. I will never be able to forget it.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Pieces can get snatched up quickly, and the number of pieces they have per style varies. You may or may not see these pieces in their available inventory list – but you might just see something you like even more! This isn’t a “styled” subscription, meaning you can pick exactly what you want from the available list – it’s not selected for you based on an algorithm or your preferences.

ACTIVE DEAL: Save 50% off your first month
CODE: LOVEMSA

Value Breakdown: In this shipment, I tried out $1053.00 of jewelry for $69 – which is less than 7% of their retail value and a great deal if it works for your budget and needs. It’s pricier than Rocksbox (which offers mid-range designer jewelry) but less than Rent the Runway (which offers designer jewelry, accessories, and clothes, too).

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

$5-$8 off feels insulting.

Hi Bee,

Thanks for writing, the member prices really do vary piece by piece. For example, the pair of Chloe earrings in the the review is priced $105 below retail. Also, members accumulate credit toward purchases for every month you’re a member on top of the discounted member price (that’s the rent-to-own aspect of Switch!) so if you decide to purchase anything it would be below the member price.

The members price is what I find laughable…$5 and $8 off. Or did i miss somewhere, where it said it would be even less? But still….even if you bought all three you would be getting $18 dollars off. Am I understanding this right? Designer jewelry or not seems crazy high

Hi Heather,

Thanks for writing, the member prices really do vary piece by piece. Some are $5 off the retail value and some are a $200+ off the retail value. That said, members accumulate credit toward purchases for every month you’re a member on top of the discounted member price (that’s the rent-to-own aspect of Switch!).

The discounts vary from piece to piece. This one is brand new to the site so it isn’t going to be a lot… yet.

I am glad there are other crazy jewelry fans out there <3

I love these pieces, Megan! I’m a huge Sophie Monet fan – I have a pair of huge wooden hoops that sadly aren’t getting much wear with all the masking we have to do these days. Those gold ladies are gorgeous too!

Megan K.

Yaaaas! I am really into wooden jewelry right now. I hope to have a reason to wear it out of the house next year if that isn’t asking too much from the universe. The gold ladies were also a fave. Why haven’t I won the lottery yet?

I kind of want to try setting stones in wood now. I see they are all opaque cabochons so they can maybe be glued and it won’t interfere with the look of the stones. Just need to drill out a shallow depression to set them in? No need limit it to round balls, could just as easily do with a bangle or another shape/piece.

(I look at jewelry subscription reviews to see what is trendy and then sometimes try to make it myself, or think about how I would.)

For real though.. Buy those ladies! They are awesome!!

I love the ladies so much! I need to start buying lottery tickets 😂

I’d be so paranoid I’d lose something! It looks cute and fun, though.

Snow

I hear ya there! It’s all fun and games until one earring disappears….

Hi Jennifer and Snow,

We do our best to merchandise items that won’t be easily lost and minor wear and tear is covered by us 🙂

I actually have the matching necklace to those earrings! I bought it at an art museum though. I’m pretty sure in Baltimore at the Walters. So needless to say I love the earrings! The ball ones are unique. I love that you chose the cry face emoji lol. I would say my 2020 emoji was this one 😅

Megan K.

I think that would make an excellent emoji necklace as well!

Megan, what happens if a customer loses an earring or a necklace gets broken? I always love your picks and review for the subscription. Wishing you the best in the new year!

Reply ButtonReply

The Switch Team

Hi Sharon!

If a piece is lost, stolen, or excessively damaged the member is responsible for the member price of the piece less any credit they’ve accumulated. It rarely happens and minor dings and normal wear or tear are covered by us.

Love the bold and fun choices! And totally agree that the laughing tears emoji sums up 2020 perfectly.

Those little wood balls remind me of Christmas ornaments. Great review.

Love your jewelry choices, Megan! Thanks for this fun and funny review.

Thanks Kate! I def had fun writing it!

Carolyn

I’m sorry, but the retail prices that are placed on these items are ridiculous. They’re at least 6 to 8 times what they should be. It feels a little scammy to me.

Reply ButtonReply

The Switch Team

Hi Carolyn,

The MSRP we provide is either directly from the brand themselves or estimates based on our merchandising team–but we agree some of the retail values can be high, that’s why we think it’s smarter to become a Switch member and access it whenever you want 🙂

Hi Carolyn! The prices are what makes this sub a great deal! Designer items always have a bit of a scary markup, though I will say that Switch has tons of fine jewelry made of gold and gems, which are totally expensive even without a fancy label attached.

aldama

I mean, arguably, luxury goods *are* a scam in terms of the markup, but this is definitely what these items go for in retail stores.

Angela

I think that this is one of the best subs out there. The jewelry is the real McCoy – high end, gorgeous stuff. I don’t like this month’s selections much – honestly I really hate that emoji necklace, ugh – but love the gold earrings. This really is the review I look forward to the most.
