GlitzGlam "Indie, Glam, and Free" November 2020 Review

This month's GlitzGlam Box theme is Indie, Glam, and Free and came with an info card that lists the products on the front. On the back of the card is a marketing promo for Hot Kitty Beauty with a discount code!

J-Lash Glam Travel Bag, Retail Value - $4.99

I tend to go through makeup bags quickly. Mainly because I will use a bag until it gets dirty beyond a point of no return. Then I end up moving on to the next. This makeup bag is pretty much like others. It's nicely sized so that you can put sample and full-sized makeup products in it. I really like it because it's clear so you can see your items and, it's plastic so very easy to clean!

Deco Miami Luxe Nail Lacquer, 14.8 ml, Retail Value - $12.00

This disco-ball-ish purple nail lacquer is in the color "Cute But Psycho" and really goes with the theme this month of Indie, Glam, and Free! I get my nails done in the salon and cannot wait to bring this color with me on my next appointment. If you can tell by my reviews so far, I LOVE SHIMMER! I can't get enough of it. This polish has so much shimmery glam goodness to give.

Folly Fire Drop The Shade Pressed Metallic Face Pigment, 1.5 g, Retail Value: $13.99

I'm really loving the purple-colored items this month! When I think of "Free", purple is one of the colors that come to mind.  This eyeshadow by Folly Fire is in the color Turbulence and is truly a stunner.

The shadow is highly pigmented. I only swatched once with my finger. I can't wait to play around with this on my eyes soon. Even if just to get on a zoom happy hour!

J-Lash Waterproof Lash Adhesive, 2g, Retail Value: $1.99

I am the girl that prefers a lash adhesive with a brush applicator because whew! It's really difficult for me to apply my lash adhesive proportionally without it. Surprisingly though, I did pretty well applying this J-Lash Waterproof Adhesive on my lashes. The consistency actually seemed a little thinner than most lash glues, which I think helped to apply so easily. My lashes also lasted all night! I didn't test it in water yet, but I plan on it!

Hot Kitty Beauty Purrrfect Lashes, Listed Value $15.99

I've worn faux mink lashes many times before. However, I'm unsure if I've ever worn 5-D lashes. I didn't find this particular style of lash on Hot Kitty Beauty because there were no product images, but I really wish I knew, because it is probably in my top 5 favorite lashes! The look and feel of the lash is very soft and true eyelash-ish. I am loving the length and volume of this set. Long enough for some serious glam, but not too stage makeup-ish. (I'm making up a lot of words in this review haha).

I truly felt like a star in these! With proper care, these lashes are reusable up to 25 x. I'm really hoping they are because this is a style I will continue to wear until I can't anymore.

The Verdict: I thought this month's GlitzGlam Box was really cute! I enjoyed every item and plan to put each one to good use. The lashes being the one I will probably use the most! I mean, look at that picture again. Total starlet. 🙂  This subscription costs $17.99 ($15 + $2.99 shipping), and I estimate that I received $48.96 in value this month.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Sadly, no, because they are preparing next month's box. BUT, you can shop on their website and get similar items!

Value Breakdown: At $17.99 ($15 + $2.99 shipping) for this box, here’s what you are paying approximately per item:

  • Makeup Bag- $1.83
  • Nail Lacquer - $4.41
  • Eyeshadow - $5.14
  • Lash Glue - $0.73
  • Lashes - $5.88

Great review! I’m so happy to see MSA review Black-owned businesses that actually spend time curating boxes. The Fabfitfun, Birchbox, Ipsy blandness is soooo boring. It’s refreshing to see something new.

Why do they label this box as black owned….I mean really…

Because it is? Its weird that it bothers you, that its mentioned.

I like reading these reviews! I’d never sub to it, simply because of the lashes every month and I don’t use them. It’s priced well, for what you get, too.

Because some people want to support (A) black-owned businesses in general, and/or (B) black-owned beauty companies. The latter seems pretty self-explanatory—someone who has a similar skin color and hair texture to you is going to have a more innate understanding of the makeup / skincare / haircare needs that you have.

And wanting to support black-owned businesses in general can be because a person wants to direct their money toward supporting black business owners, who continue to face discrimination in lending and other financial-related areas:

“Factors such as statistically lower home ownership, less generational wealth, and higher student debt bolster the already established [racial wealth] gap, business-owner or not. However, Black entrepreneurs who decide to start a brand and go through the steps of raising capital then face discrimination from banks and lenders. St. Louis Public Radio recently shared U.S. Federal Reserve data showing that 53 percent of Black-owned businesses were denied loans from banks in 2014, as compared to 25 percent of white-owned businesses.”

On the website they have a lovely story about the ladies who run the company, and happen to be black. I can’t see what’s wrong with mentioning this fact, especially for those who would like to help support black owned businesses.

That’s choosing by skin color, and we all know the word for that in English.
