Gentleman's Box November 2020 “Hacker" Review

This is our issue of the Gentleman's Post which is basically a booklet that describes the theme for the month and highlights the items included in our box. This month's box is honoring their favorite hacker, Rami Malek.

Tieroom Tie - Listed Value $29.00

My husband really liked the tie they included this month.  It features a nice gray linen fabric with small white paisley details all over. The color is great and the design is subtle making this a versatile tie that can be worn dressed up for work or for a more casual look. I couldn't find this exact tie on the Tieroom site, but there are similar styles available here.

Here it is on. I think this one would look nice against a brighter colored shirt!

Wolf Clothing Co. Socks - Listed Value $15.00

My husband liked the color of these socks, but he wasn't so impressed with the quality. They are a bit thin he said, so they might make a better summer sock, especially with that vibrant orange color. The booklet claims that they are 100% polyester, which they advertise as being durable and easy to clean, but the actual label says 90% polyester, 5% spandex, and 5% elastane. Not sure why the discrepancy, but hopefully these will still prove to be durable.

Here they are on. This design was just okay for him, overall.

Nine to Five Pocket Square - Listed Value $19.00

While he wasn't a huge fan of the socks, my husband and I both loved this next item! The material for this pocket square is a super soft, thin flannel and the gray and orange looks so nice together! It definitely has a lumberjack vibe to it but like an updated version with the more vibrant orange. It's unique and suits my husband's style, and it is unlike any other pocket square he owns, so he is pretty happy with it!

NobleSole Shoe Horn - Listed Value $15.00

I never thought I'd be calling a shoehorn pretty, but look how sleek this golden shoehorn is. It's made of stainless steel so it's sturdy and it looks like it will do the trick! It's also nice that it comes in its own storage bag so you can throw it in your suitcase for traveling.

Gentlemen of the North Beanie - Listed Value $25.00

You can't go wrong with a gray beanie. This one has a nice looking weave to it and the knit is thick enough to provide some warmth. The Gentlement of the North logo on the tag is attractive, too! My husband likes this hat a lot and since we have 2 boys who enjoy wearing their daddy's hats, it never hurts to have an extra around!

He was really happy with the fit and how comfortable it was.

Barbasol 1919 Classic Shaving Cream Sample, 7.5 ml - Buy a full size for $6.99

My husband also received this sample of Barbasol shaving cream. He isn't usually one for using shaving cream, but this will be something he can hang onto if the occasion should arise! They also included a 30% off coupon for us to use which is a nice touch!

Verdict: This month's Gentleman’s Box had some really nice items inside. While the socks were a bit of a miss due to how thin they were, everything else was an easy win! The tie is great, my husband is already wearing the beanie out, and the pocket square is a great style that is unique and fun. The total listed retail value of these items comes to $103 which is pretty great for a $29 + free shipping box!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, you'll likely receive the December box. All orders placed on the last day of the month by 11:59 PM Pacific Time will start you with the current month’s box.

Value Breakdown: This box costs $29 + free shipping, which means that each of the 5 items (not including the sample) in the box has an average cost of about $5.80.

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!

It just seems like this box is a bit out of touch, a bit too exclusive for a small group of men?

Even before the pandemic, men aren’t generally wearing ties, and I never see pocket squares. So many places have adopted a casual approach.

I lol’d at a shoehorn. And I agree about the banding on the socks, I would request a new pair.

My husband has 2 shoehorns that he uses, they’re great for putting on my toddler’s shoes!

It’s great for private school boys. My son got this box for the last 3 years of high school and he loved it. Never used the pocket squares or lapel pins but he did like the tie clips and the few cuff links he received.

The band’s on the socks don’t look like they’re the same width.

Sorry for the deceiving photo! I think it was just the way my husband had the socks on and I didn’t realize it, but the band is the same width! 🙂
