BREO BOX Review - Winter 2020

BREO BOX recently stopped including the heavier wooden boxes and they've switched to a more lightweight but still super giftable box with a lid that can be reused. This quarter, it's white. It also comes in a drawstring dust bag, inside of an outer cardboard box so that the nice box is kept clean.

They've also recently switched to a more informative booklet to focus on each item included for a more in-depth look at how to use them.

Lume UV Sanitizing Wand - Retail Value $79.00

From Breo Box:

99% effective against germs, bacteria, and viruses, use Lume to sanitize desks, restaurant seats, packages, shopping carts, and more. With a wave of a wand, you're protected from harmful viruses and germs in 10 seconds or less! It's so lightweight, you can carry it in your purse or backpack.

With cold and flu season right around the corner, we must be more diligent than ever about protecting ourselves and our families & Lume is one of the easiest ways to do so.

I don't know much about UV sanitation but I did do a little research and found this extremely helpful! I know so many of us are concerned about Covid right now and this was the specific info I found in that regard:

Effectiveness: The effectiveness of UVC lamps in inactivating the SARS-CoV-2 virus is unknown because there is limited published data about the wavelength, dose, and duration of UVC radiation required to inactivate the SARS-CoV-2 virus. It is important to recognize that, generally, UVC cannot inactivate a virus or bacterium if it is not directly exposed to UVC. In other words, the virus or bacterium will not be inactivated if it is covered by dust or soil, embedded in porous surface or on the underside of a surface.

So the jury might still be out on exactly how effective UV light can be, specifically on Covid, but I will say that we used UV methods of sanitation in esthy school on the regular, but only after first disinfecting our non-porous tools with something like Barbicide. Sure, that's a specific reference, but I would expect the same to be for most surfaces. Use this light after wiping items down with a cleaner!

This little wand was indeed extremely portable and easy to charge! And it felt pretty cool to use. Like some sort of anti-germ mini lightsaber!

Sohp Touchless Dispenser - Retail Value $49.00

I have always kind of wanted one of these, but it seemed like something that I didn't technically need at home. While I might not be using this in my personal bathroom, I am totally planning on taking it to my facial treatment room. I am obsessive when it comes to handwashing (my clients deserve someone obsessive, IMO) and this will be perfect for my handwashing before and during each facial to minimize contact and contamination. I was floored to see that a single charge can last through 10,000 uses before I need to recharge! That is a lot of happy contact-free hand washing!

Trip Wipes Gel Soap Refill - Retail Value $14.00

And this gull-size gel soap is the perfect formula to use in my new soap dispenser! This soap is made in Detroit and has a really nice citrusy scent. This is a plant-based soap that is environmentally friendly and gentle on my hands.

Coffee Cookie Warmer - Retail Value $19.99 (This website is mobile-only. Which was interesting. Just a heads up!)

While I might not be a coffee drinker, no one said I can't use this for tea! Designed to snap up into the bottom of your average disposable coffee cup, this handy (and super portable!) little heater is perfect for keeping your bevvie of choice super toasty. Not into disposable or like to make your brew at home? No worries. Your cup can easily sit on top of this little puck for the same warmth factor. If you are like me, and you tend to let your tea sit and then end up drinking room-temperature tea, this is a super handy device for your desk. While it never made my tea scalding hot again, this little thing gets HOT, hence the warning to not touch it when it is on. It also got hot enough to where I would hesitate to use it on a plastic cup. Stick to paper, glass, or metal! It charges easily with a USB cord and turns on with a simple flip of a switch! My only complaint is that I had to provide my own USB cord, but, tbh, I have like a million of these cables floating around my home.

LSTN Palladium Wireless Earbuds - Retail Value $99.99

I gifted my mom a similar pair of earbuds last year for Christmas and my husband really loved them! So, you guessed it, these are totally going under the tree with his name on them. I have super small ears and earbuds never seem to stay inside, so my defect is his gain! I did try them out for this review (by putting them inside my ears and not moving or smiling so they would stay!) and the sound quality is great! While the range might not do your super bass beats as much justice as something larger, music still sounds wonderful through them. Their case serves as a charger too, and each charge lasts about 3 hours. They are also cord-free and after your initial pairing, the Bluetooth connects automatically.

Casalink Smart Plugs - Listed Value $29.00

I already own a couple of smart plugs from different brands, and I absolutely love them. This means I already had the Smart Life app on my phone, so setup was a breeze. Simply plug the plug in, hold down the power button until the blue light starts flashing, then follow the app instructions to pair! You can also convert the plug over to your Amazon Alexa app after first pairing with the Smart Life app and on either app you can set scheduled on and off times for your plugs. We like to use these for our bedroom light (I hate going upstairs into a dark room), living room light, and even our Christmas tree. You can also manually control these switches on and off through the app. Last year I was in Tennessee for Thanksgiving and Will was in Pennsylvania. I had a really fun time turning the tree on and off randomly. Will didn't enjoy it as much, but, hey, I had a great time.

Verdict: BREO BOX had so many cool gadgets in this delivery! And I personally liked the focus on sanitation and safety paired with totally functional items like the earbuds and coffee puck. Though I couldn't verify the cost of some of the items outside of the ones provided by Breo Box, the value here looks to be around $290.98 which is good for a $159 box. If you are into gadgets and don't mind a pricier quarterly sub, this one is a lot of fun and always creatively curated and endlessly useful.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes, but these sell out quickly!

Value Breakdown: At $159 for this box, you're paying roughly $26.50 per item.

Soap Dispenser- just takes time to get started. I thought it was broken but I just kept putting my hand under it and eventually it started. It just slowly sucks that soap up. Works just fine.

I’ve been struggling with the touch less soap dispenser! I have followed the instructions but no soap comes out. It makes a sound like it is dispensing but not one drop of soap!
Anyone have this issue or figured out how to make it work?

Thanks Rebecca

I gave mine to my mother and she is having the same problem. I emailed Breo customer service and will report back if I get an answer

The coffee cookie does not fit in Starbucks cups, just tried it. We have already gotten wireless earbuds and a uv sanitizer from this company, so that is disappointing. I hope the next box is better. I’ll use the soap and give the smart plugs as a gift, otherwise this is a bust for me 🙁

Anyone know when these are supposed to ship? I’m concerned they won’t be here before Christmas.

I wonder if the coffee warmer would work as a little candle warmer on my desk. (So weird that their website doesn’t work on desktop. I don’t think I have ever seen that before.).

Thank you Megan for the great review! I have been eyeing this box for a while and your review made me pull the trigger. I have seen so many great items included in past boxes that I am super excited to see what the next year brings!

I am a former subscriber. While there are some cool things in this box, there is nothing here I couldn’t live without. I also cancelled my order for the $500 anniversary box when I saw the spoiler for the massage gun. Again, not something I need. I hope those who do get these enjoy the contents, it was just not for me.

I concur with your post.

We had the Breo Box for a few months, and while it was exciting and entertaining prior to opening; not much use out of the products sent.

Some of the items were more novel and ‘Hey’ ‘Cool, look at this’, and then the novelty wore off.

Best way to describe it would be walking into one of those late 90’s retail stores that carried the latest tech, gadget and massage chairs. After a while, you become bored.

I think the favourite product for us was the mug that keeps things cool or warm.

Price point is on the very high side, however some may really love this box.

Maybe it’s better suited to the late teen or early twenties.

It looks like there are two ways? Either snapped into the disposable lid (somehow?) Or you put your non-disposable, not-plastic cup on top of it. I think I’ll be doing the latter with my mugs – but I am worried about it getting hot, as I have little ones.

Megan K.

Hi Jennifer! It does get too hot to touch, so I would keep it out of reach of wee ones.
It is designed to fit snugly into the bottom of a disposable cup.

Jennifer

Good to know! I don’t really do much disposable coffee, so I might pass it on as a gift or save it for my rare kid-free cup of evening cocoa or tea.

Katrina

I do not understand how the coffee warmer works. It goes in the lid????

Megan K.

That was a typing error on my part. It snaps up into the base of a cup!

ty for the catch Heather! I fixed that part!

What uv light range does the wand operate in? (~264 nanometers is the ideal for killing bacteria, apparently.)

Also, is the Lume Wand made by Lume Technologies, or is it a different brand?

Reply ButtonReply

Jennifer

Now that I have my box and info booklet, it looks like the wand works/peaks in the 270-280nm range, not the 260-270 range (265 being the ideal peak.) I think it’s going to take a lot more than “ten seconds” to disinfect anything, though at least it should still have some effect as it’s under 300.

I still can’t find any brand information for it. It’s called the Lume wand, which made me think it was by Lume Technologies, but I don’t see anything on their website (lumeuv) that is similar. The one in the box while called the Lume has no brand mentioned.

I’m having the hardest time finding a soap dispenser that makes liquid soap turn into foam. Does this lather really well? Mine all just spit out the liquid without foaming. Super interested in getting this if it does. Thanks!

Randie

I use Method foaming hand soap and a pump from Target specifically made for foaming soap. If you use the foaming soap pump, I think you can also mix regular liquid hand soap with a certain ratio of water to get it to foam.

Reply ButtonReply

Janelle

That’s how liquid soap works, it doesn’t foam until you start washing. If it want it to foam as it pumps, like the Bath and Body ones or some commercial dispensers like in bathrooms, you’d have to buy a machine and soap specifically for that. I think SimpleHuman sells a similar machine and refills that produce foam.
