Tarte recently had a Create Your Own Beauty Kit sale that let you pick 7 items of your choice for $63! That's a price I couldn't pass up for products from a brand I love!

Tarte Create Your Own Kit October 2020 inside box

About twice per year, Tarte will offer a "7 items for $63" sale, and it usually has you choose one item from a few different categories. For example, they offer one item from an eye category, one mascara, one from a face/complexion category, etc.

FYI - this box is no longer available for purchase.

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Tarte Create Your Own Custom Beauty Kit (7 for $63) October 2020 Review

Tarte Create Your Own Kit October 2020 items ordered

Here's a list of the items I picked!

Check out our post here to see everything that was offered as an option for this kit!

Sequin Tassel Bag - Estimated Value $10 (based on similar items)

This bag is fab. I love the rose gold sequins and the tassels on the zipper. The inside is lined, and the size is big enough to hold everything I received in this box (minus the moisturizer), so it would hold enough for a basic full face.

Tarte Baba Bomb Moisturizer - Retail value $39

I tried this product for the first time in Tarte's last 7-items-for-$63 sale in June. I fell in love, so I had to snag a refill. My complexion is dry so I need my moisturizers to put in a lot of work for me. The first thing that I really appreciate is the packaging: after removing the lid, you press the top down and the perfect amount of moisturizer comes out for you to swipe and apply to your face. This helps protect the potency of more fragile/unstable ingredients that would deteriorate when exposed to air. The vegan formula feels rich, smooth, and really packs some hydration goodness into my skin and it is so refreshing.

Tarte Hydrocealer Concealer , 8s Porcelain Sand- Retail value $25

This is a new concealer from Tarte. It's oil-free and designed to be hydrating and light with a light-to-medium, buildable coverage. I'm really happy with this new discovery! It didn't cake or crease for me, and the coverage held up throughout the day. It also brightened my under eye well enough to hide that I'm a tired mom of 3! I'll take that every day!

Tarte Babassu Foundcealer Skincare Foundation SPF 20 , 8b Porcelain Beige - Retail value $39

The formula for this foundation is designed to be a moisturizer, concealer, foundation, and SPF in one. My skin loves the hydrating factor and the natural finish is gorgeous. Honestly, I love this foundation, but the colors it comes in just don't quite work for me.

Once upon a time, I tried this foundation in shade 14S, which is "fair with yellow undertones." This was too dark on me and I returned it. I need the yellow undertones but I also need their "porcelain" category and not their "fair" category (especially in the winter). This time around I tried the palest shade they have, Porcelain Beige because sometimes my neutral-toned complexion can squeeze by with slight pink undertones. Unfortunately, it is just too pink for me. Usually, Tarte matches my complexion really well, but not with this formula. Which is okay, I suppose, because I have good matches in their Face Tape, Water Foundation, Tinted Moisturizer, and Clay BB cream. I really do like the formula itself, though, so I am a little bummed. I would definitely still recommend this foundation.

Tarte Tarteist Lash Paint Mascara - Retail value $23

This is a re-buy for me, as well! It's one of my very favorite mascaras (and I've tried a lot). I love the spiky silicone brush that really gets in between my lashes to lengthen and separate. The formula is super pigmented and I've never had any issues with clumping at all. It never ends up rubbing off around my eye, either!

Sugar Rush Sparkler Shadow Stick, bronze - Retail value $19

This is a new product for me. I have been using easy and minimal makeup this year since I've been home a lot more, so a shadow stick sounded like a great way to simplify my eye shadow game. This is very sparkly, definitely glittery. It glides on smoothly, but it felt a little difficult to control in regards to blending or reaching it all the way to my lash line.

Tarte Maracuja Juicy Lip, holiday spritz - Retail value $19

FYI, the shades Tarte offered of this lippie seem to only come in a holiday 3-pack, at least on their website. This shade is described as a "Pink Beige" and it's a nice neutral tint of color anyone could wear. I've never tried this product before but I actually really like it! The formula feels like a cross between a lip balm and a lip gloss – almost a Vaseline-esque texture. One thing I really like about this is that even after the shine wears off the balm-like feel and hydration stays. It lasts a long time and I'm definitely keeping this handy in my purse.

Tarte Create Your Own Kit October 2020 swatches

Here are swatches of the (top to bottom) concealer, foundation, shadow stick, and juicy lip.

Here I am wearing the foundation (I really love the finish!), the concealer (under my eyes), the shadow stick, mascara, and Juicy Lip.

The Verdict: These Tarte Create Your Own Kits are not to be missed! They're one of my all-time favorite beauty box releases. I love that you get to choose your own products, so you can stock up on favorite re-buys or try something new with low risk because of the deep discount. I know one thing some people don't love about this kit is that you have to choose 1 item per category, but there's often enough variety in products that I don't have a hard time finding something that interests me in each one. The value is fantastic for the products you get. This box cost me $63, and my items add up to a retail value of $164 without including any value for the bag (including the bag, the total value is $174). I am absolutely happy with that!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you order today? No, Tarte only offers these Create Your Own Kits a couple of times a year (the 7 items for $63 version is usually held in May and November)!

Value Breakdown: At $63 for this box, here’s what you are paying approximately per item:

  • Bag: $3.62
  • Moisturizer: $14.12
  • Concealer: $9.05
  • Foundation: $14.12
  • Mascara: $8.33
  • Shadow Stick: $6.88
  • Juicy Lip: $6.88

Alternatively, the $63 breaks down into $9 per item.

My foundation came expired and the lipstick was broken at the based, had clearly been swatched, and came with the lid not completely down. Tarte replaced the items, but watch the dates on what you get. I’m sure the use these sales to get rid of old stock, so don’t let them give you expired product even at a good price.

The second paragraph in the review is a bit confusing.

You fixed it, thanks 🙂

I’m sure the reviewer gets this all of the time…but, OMG THOSE LASHES! 😮 I’m so jealous lol!!!

Haley Faye

Haha, thank you so much, Laura! They haven’t always been this way – I have been using the Essy Lash Serum (like $30 on Amazon) for a year or two now and it’s made such a big difference. 🙂

I picked up the Tarte kit, too, and I’m really happy with everything I got. New to me was the Face Tape foundation (love!), Stay Spray, and Lights Camera Splashes mascara (waterproof mascara is one thing I never get in sub boxes). I also grabbed the Amazonian clay blush in Exposed, the Splash lipstick in Set Sail (really pretty rosey nude), and the Chrome Paint Pot in Frosé. Minus concealer and primer, I have everything I need for a monochromatic pink look. Such a good deal!

Charlotte, that sounds like an amazing kit! Tarte’s clay blush in Exposed is my Desert Island blush! That’s a GORGEOUS shade. And yes, I love their face tape as well. Thanks for reading!!

Love the final look! Are those your real eyelashes?! Gorgeous!

Haley Faye

Thank you, Ashley! Yes, they’re my real lashes – I’ve been using a lash serum for a year or two and it’s really made a difference. Thanks so much for reading!

“Alternatively, the $63 breaks down into $24.86 per item” Seems ?

Haley Faye

Oops – thanks, Laura! That should be $63/7 items = $9 per item. Updated!

Haley you are by far my favorite reviewer. No offense to others but you give a great review as well as photos of products in use. It makes a HUGE difference to see products in actual use versus swatches or just plain photos. I can go on any product website to see those. You need a promotion and wish you did more reviews, truly authentic.

Oh gosh, thank you SO much, Kristin, Ashley, and Lori! That made my day! <3

Ashley

I’m always thinking the same!

Lori

Agree!

JesCro

Foundcealer is my absolute favorite foundation.

Christy

Same! I got it in the last box and since then I have repurchased it without realizing that I would be able to order this box again shortly after. The first one I got was just a little too light for me so I tried 27 neutral because I am very fair skinned but 27 neutral is perfect for me! My higher end foundations have taken a backseat to this one as I use it every single day!!

Haley Faye

I’m really impressed with the formula! I’m thinking maybe of trying mixing half with one of my other foundations to see if I can nudge the undertone to be the right color for me to wear because I love the finish of it!

I got a kit as well and the Maracuja lip was the sleeper hit for me. I wasn’t expecting much and really loved it. I also got the powder foundation, lash primer, spot acne treatment, clay concealer, and brow pomade. This still work out really well for me since I actually needed lash primer, brow pomade, and acne treatment. I love being able to justify splurges!
