Keto Krate November 2020 Review

With October wrapped up and a little over a week into November, I feel like time is flying by at warp speed! I am happy to say I made it through Halloween pretty easily as we skipped out of Trick or Treating this year due to COVID, but my kids have been planning our Thanksgiving menu for weeks now and it has me craving some buttery mashed potatoes. Thankfully my Keto Krate box came just in time to help me keep my eye on the prize, and forget about those potatoes...for now. Scroll down to find out what kind of items we received this month.

I love the inclusion of this helpful pamphlet this subscription sends every month. It is jam-packed with helpful info and I always enjoy the themed clip art they include (just look at that sleepy little kitty.) Not only do we get to read about real-life success stories, but they also include delicious recipes, coupon codes, links to the month's product info in Krate Club, and tips on how to manage your subscription.

Buddha Brands Chocolate Chip Keto Bar - Buy a 12 pack for $21.99

Fat 11g | Net Carbs 5g | Taste Score: 10/10

Before I began working from home, I loved stashing bars like this in a purse, backpack, desk drawer, and car console so I was always ready when hunger struck. Now that I'm at home, I'm finding it a little more difficult to reach for a bar when I have a refrigerator full of options, but this brand made me excited for a bar again! Usually, Keto-type bars are really greasy and almost have a wet look to them. This particular brand features 9 grams of plant protein, is perfectly sweet without having a funny aftertaste, and isn't greasy at all! The chocolate chip to bar ratio was perfect, and I really did feel quite full after eating this. I am definitely going to order some more of these for my stash!

Field Trip Snacks Island BBQ Pork Rinds - Buy a 12 pack for $21.28

Fat 5g | Net Carbs 1g | Taste Score: 10/10

Upon opening this bag, I was excited to experience what "Island BBQ" might taste like, and I have to say, I was impressed! These crispy, airy, crunchy puffs are wonderfully salty with a subtle hint of barbeque flavor to them. After the barbeque flavor subsided, I was left with a slightly sweet pineapple flavoring that finished the entire product off really nicely. I've tried a lot of flavors of pork rinds, and I have to admit, these might just be my new favorite!

Kitu Super Coffee White Chocolate Peppermint - Buy a 12 pack for $39.99

Fat 2.5g | Net Carbs 2g | Taste Score: 5

I have gone back and forth with coffee for a while now. About 2 years ago I started drinking it and it really hurt my stomach (turns out it was gallstones) but it caused me to stop. This year (after having my gallbladder removed) I decided to add it to my morning routine as I need a little kick start in the morning. I tend to prefer cold brews, so I was excited to try this white chocolate peppermint version. Once chilled, I enjoyed this while I read the morning news. Unlike the news, this drink was very sweet and I found the flavor combination to be spot on. This drink is sweetened with monk fruit, and while I really enjoyed the initial flavor, it did have a bit of a funky aftertaste. Because it was so sweet I didn't drink the entire bottle but have been using it to add to my morning coffee for a little kick...I have found it much more enjoyable diluted a bit.

Mission Meats Fajita Flavor Beef and Veggie Strip - Buy 24 strips for $34.16

Fat 6g | Net Carbs 1g | Taste Score: 10/10

Bring on the meat sticks! This time, we received a fajita flavored beef and veggie strip. These sticks are made from grass-fed beef, jalapeno peppers, sea salt, encapsulated citric acid, celery juice, pepper, coriander, garlic powder, and onion powder. I have to admit that I didn't get a strong "fajita" flavor from these sticks, but I did enjoy the moist, juicy texture and the meaty flavor. Like you probably already know, my kids sniff out the beef sticks as soon as I open this box, and they gave this particular snack two thumbs up which meant I only got to eat half.

Carne Seca Limon Con Chile People's Choice Beef Jerky - Buy a 2.5 oz bag for $6.00

Fat 2.5g | Net Carbs 0g | Taste Score: 10/10

This packaging tricked my kids into thinking we only received the beef stick this month...little did they know we received this giant package of chile and lemon-flavored jerky! The texture of this jerky is very dry as you can see in the picture, but the flavor is fantastic! The mixture of salt, pepper, and a hint of lemon combines for a spicy yet sweet and sour treat that leaves you wanting more...and more...and more...until the entire bag is gone. At least that's what happened to me! Because I'm nice, I did share this with my kids (partially because I thought they would think it was too spicy) and they loved it too! Looks like Santa is bringing beef jerky this Christmas!

Shrewd Food Parmesan Herb Croutons - Buy a 10 pack for $14.99

Fat 2g | Net Carbs 2g | Taste Score: 10/10

I'm embarrassed to admit, but pre-keto my salads consisted more of croutons than actual lettuce...nowadays I have omitted those little squares of goodness, but today I found an even tastier alternative! These protein croutons pack 10 grams of protein in one serving and are absolutely epic in flavor! Crunchy, salty, and perfectly herby, these bites of deliciousness are great on their own but even better on a leafy salad with a bit of Italian dressing. My kids even preferred these to regular croutons on their salad. Looks like I have some ordering to do!

Intakt Snacks Crunchy Cheese Mediterranean Mix

Fat 6g | Net Carbs <1g | Taste Score: 5/10

I like cheese sticks and cheese crisps, and while I don't mind the texture of these crunchy cheese snacks, I just didn't fall in love with the Mediterranean flavor. I picked up on the basil flavor with a bit of tomato, but it just didn't pair with the cheddar as well as I would have liked. I offered these little guys to the boys and they didn't think much of them either. I see while this particular flavor isn't listed on their website, they do offer a raspberry version that sounds interesting...maybe next month?

Fattbar Chocolate Bites - Buy a 3 pack for $14.95

Fat 7g | Net Carbs 3g | Taste Score: 3/10

I am all for keto-friendly sweet treats, and when they advertise being packed with healthy fats and prebiotic inulin that will fuel your brain and promote a healthy gut, I am all for trying it! Our package contained 2 small chocolate bars that were beautifully coated with a hardened chocolate frosting and creamy chocolate filling underneath. Initially biting into it, it almost has the texture of a three-musketeers bar, but definitely not the taste. This super-rich bar was chocolatey but also had a really natural flavor to it that I just didn't care for...like at all. I would probably eat it if there was nothing else around, but I would rather save my calories for something else.

Keto Farms Zesty Ranch Crunchy Snack Mix - Buy a 6 count variety pack for $14.99

Fat 14g | Net Carbs 2g | Taste Score: 10/10

Now, this is a snack I would happily abandon any type of calorie count for! While I don't typically count calories, I would eat these no matter how many they were! This mixture of almonds and cheese chunks is salty, savory, and delicious through and through. I have purchased these before and actually had to hide them from my kids because they would scarf them down before I even had a chance to have one. They are the perfect amount for a backpacking snack, a treat in the car, or an emergency purse snack. Beware though – they are highly addicting and you will need to purchase more!

Legendary Foods Strawberry Tasty Pastry - Buy a 10 pack for $24.99

Fat 13g | Net Carbs 4g | Taste Score: 9/10

Nicely played Legendary Foods, nicely played. You legit fooled my 5-year-old into thinking these were a regular Pop-Tart and had him asking why two didn't come in the package like usual. We haven't had Pop-Tarts in our house in ages, but no little kid can resist the sprinkle adorned frosting those flaky pastries offer....and this is a keto-friendly version of that. I can't even believe this pasty only has 4 grams of net carbs and 1 gram of sugar – they taste pretty close to the non-keto version, as the strawberry filling is sweet without having a funny aftertaste, and they somehow were able to create a pastry without an overpowering coconut or almond flavor! Here's a tip: toasting them and adding a dollop of butter takes it to the next level...I dare you to try it!

Curly Girlz Candy Hemp Brittle -Buy a 4 oz bag for $9.99

Fat 12g | Net Carbs 5g | Taste Score: 10/10

I have never heard of hemp brittle, so I was really interested to give this a try. When I did a little research I found out that this particular candy is made with my home state of Minnesota Hemp Farms raw hemp hearts. I have honestly never heard of a hemp heart and had to do even more research to find out if these were suitable for me and my children to eat...thankfully they are! While I didn't give my kids any, I found these candies to be one of my favorite items in this month's box. My grandma used to make the world's best peanut brittle, and this brittle brings all the chewy, buttery memories I have of that, but with kind of an earthy flavor. I couldn't get enough of these and will definitely look more into hemp brittles in the future!

:Ratio Lemon Almond Crunchy Bar - Buy a 12 pack for $20.64

Fat 7g | Net Carbs 2g | Taste Score: 10/10

I see this month has a bit of a lemon theme to it, and as I enjoy that flavor I am okay with that. Almonds are the first ingredient in this bar and when you bite into this bar you will definitely notice that. This bar is tough and you need to really use your chompers to bust through, but it is totally worth it. This savory bar contains the perfect amount of lemon flavoring that really is a home run in a bar. I can see myself reaching for this bar as dessert because it is that good. My kids struggled to bite through this bar as their baby teeth just couldn't do it, but I absolutely loved it!

The Verdict: I love Keto Krate because it gives me the opportunity to discover new low carb foods. This month was extremely impressive because there were only 3 items I didn't love...the rest I scored 9 and 10's! That's unheard of! The point of this box is for me to have the ability to try new brands, flavors, and snacks without the commitment of a large amount of expensive treats that aren't a guaranteed love. I look forward to this box every month, and always find a new brand or flavor I otherwise would be too chicken to try. I can't wait to see what they send next month!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Unfortunately, no. If you subscribe today, your first box will be the December box.

Value Breakdown: The box costs $39.99 + free shipping which means that each of the 12 items in the box has an average cost of $3.33. I also want to share that on their website, it states the retail value of this month's products is $43.20, but you would pay $44.00 in shipping costs for each product, plus you would have to spend $46.85 to get the discount code savings of minimum orders for each product, which would bring your total value to $134.05, so I think $39.99 is a pretty good price to test out different snacks and find new faves!
