The Box By Fashionsta September 2020 Review

The Box By Fashionsta comes with a simple info card that provides a short description of each included product, along with its individual retail value. This month's box is centered around "borderless beauty" and uniting as one as a 'global beauty commUNITY.' Fashionsta is celebrating and exploring the beauty of our planet as one community by featuring products from around the globe, including Uganda, Ethiopia, Germany, France, Australia, India, and Italy.

Offline Eyeshadow Palette by Zoeva Cosmetics (Germany) - Listed Value $28.00

I love a good eyeshadow palette, especially when the colors take me out of my comfort zone! This is a 10 color palette featuring beige tones, turquoise, reds, and purples. The eyeshadows are highly pigmented and are either a shimmer or a matte finish. I will say that I wasn't in love with how these shadows went on, there was a ton of fallout even just getting the shadow onto my makeup brush. I had to apply a good amount of product to get solid coverage, and even then felt as though I needed a little afternoon touchup because there was a lot of creasing. I am pretty fair, so the beige tones aren't really working for me, but I use lighter tones to highlight or as a base color pretty much every day – so those lighter tones will be great for that! While I am not totally in love with this palette, I do know that I will use it here and there, especially as a base to build different looks!

Ultra Curl 4-in-1 Gloss Mascara by MCo Beauty (Australia), 0.41 fl oz. - Retail Value $22.00

I have been using the same mascara brand since high school, but I always love trying new brands to see if I can fall in love again if you will. And I really, really loved this mascara! It has a high gloss finish, and the wand has a lash-lifting formula that even grabbed my lower lashes easily. The wand works to separate and lift your lashes to give it that natural curl and shine. I loved how it provided amazing coverage with zero clumping! The brand is from Australia and is PETA certified, which I appreciate. The tube is the perfect size to take with you in an overnight or travel bag, too. I might have found my new love in a mascara bottle!

010 Irreverence Nourishing Shampoo by Terre Mars (France)⁣⁣, 5.07 fl oz. - Retail Value $22.00

This French organic, vegan, and cruelty-free shampoo works on all hair types to regenerate, moisturize, and repair. Shampoo can be a super personal item, and if you are like me having a bad shampoo wash can really mess with how my hair looks and in turn, mess up my day. I don't wash my hair daily, so I really need something that is going to get my hair super clean without leaving it feeling dry. I also need something to help maintain my curl. This shampoo had it all! It is made with coffee extract, rosemary leaves, aloe vera, and almond protein to keep your hair soft, clean, and supple. The big bonus is that my husband also loved it, and we rarely agree on shampoo. A big winner all around!

Liquid Lipstick + Lip Pencil by We Makeup (Italy) - Listed Value $27.50

Let me start by simply saying that I am obsessed with this lip set! Lip liner always makes me think of my mom, she was that super cool mom in the '90s, rocking the dark liner with a light lip or just a bold brown lip. Any note that she would leave for us was always closed with a kiss showing her signature lip color on the paper. I rarely use a lip liner now, but I know that I really should because when I do, I love the fuller look that it gives my lips. The colors in this set matched and blended perfectly leaving me with this amazing full lip. The lipstick itself is incredible! Both are made with coconut oil, vitamin E, Gamma Oryzanol (derived from rice bran oil), and Spherical Silica (which helps the product apply smoothly). The color goes on smoothly, left my lips feeling hydrated, and lasted for hours without looking dry or dull. The brand is also vegan and cruelty-free! The color is perfect for fall, which is probably why I have been wearing this set every day since I got it!

Vanilla + Ethiopian Honey Beauty Butter by 54 Thrones (Uganda), 1.7 oz. - Retail Value $24.00

The cooler temps just started a few weeks ago where I live and my hands are already in horrible shape. I need something more heavy-duty to keep them from cracking and flaking so I was really excited to give this beauty butter a try! This product is a blend of Ugandan and Ghanaian shea butter, plus it is hand-crafted, paraben- and sulfate-free, cruelty-free, and free of GMOs and toxins. The butter is super thick and creamy, it literally glides onto your skin. It left my hands feeling a little sticky at first, but my skin quickly drank in the moisture, and the scent is sweet like honey. I have been using this on my hands in the morning and at night for extra hydration and my hands have already improved drastically after only a few days, so I trust that this is going to help keep my hands in good shape throughout the winter!

Ratrani Moroccan Lava Clay Cleanser by Nourish Mantra (India), 2.36 fl oz. - Retail Value $18.00

Another winning product for me this month! Clay cleansers can be sort of rough on my skin, but I was super excited to see that this features more of a cream base so you don't get that extra gritty feeling when you wash with it. After a few days of using it twice a day, I did start to feel like it was a bit too much exfoliation, so I switched to using it at night which has really helped. This cleanser is made in India and is vegan, cruelty-free, sulfate-free, and paraben-free. It is made of Moroccan lava (rhassoul) clay, French red clay, activated charcoal, licorice extracts, and vitamin E. It works to absorb excess oils, deep-seated impurities, and dead skin cells to leave your skin feeling fresh, clean, and oh-so-flawless. I honestly feel like this is exactly what my skin needs after a long day to just remove the dirt and makeup and has been leaving my skin feeling so fresh! My breakouts are clearing and I have noticed a smoothness that I didn't notice before I started using this cleanser, even in the morning when I am applying my makeup. Definitely worth the price for this bottle!

Verdict: The Box By Fashionsta was incredible! This month's box was all about "borderless beauty" and uniting as one as a 'global beauty commUNITY.'  The products hailed from all around the globe, which provided this incredible curation that allowed me to discover so many new-to-me brands! I love researching brands and I thought that this month's products featured so many unique companies. I don't think I can even name a favorite, everything was so spot on. The butter is by far the product that has blown me away the most, simply because it improved my dry skin dramatically within days of using it only twice a day. It smells amazing and it actually works, what more could you ask for? The clay cleanser was a nice surprise because it is more of a cream base instead of a grainy charcoal scrub. It is perfect to use at night and improved the look and feel of my skin pretty much instantly. The lipstick and pencil set is my Mom's dream come true, and it reminded me that a lip pencil does wonders to complete a makeup look. The only product that I wasn't in love with was the eyeshadow palette and I think that had more to do with the colors, they just aren't tones that I would use a lot. That being said, it is always good to step out of your comfort zone, especially when it comes to eye makeup so I will be using this here and there. This box has a retail value of $141.50 which is incredible for a $24.99 box. As always, the curation and quality are what really stood out to me. Even if I don't love a product, I know I will use it occasionally or I can always gift it to a friend. Let's be honest though, everything this month was a huge hit for me and will get used, not to mention I was able to learn about new brands from across the globe!

I liked that this month wasn’t all made in China/ali express junk. My lipstick and lip liner did not match at all. Like not even close to make it work, and the color of lipstick I got and liner were ones I gave away. I gave the mascara away too. Liked the shampoo, and I am one that does NOT like hair stuff in boxes. I’m not a hair girl…but this is nice.

The zoeva pallette is odd. I’ve got a couple from sephora and they are really hit or miss. I like that this is made in Germany and not China or prc….

I hope this box also starts to add name brand items into the mix. Like GOOD items. The only name brand thing I’ve got since the very start of the box was a sigma baking brush. I dont bake, but loved that brush so much that I have bought and spent HUNDREDS of dollars on sigma brushes and their cleaner, Matt for brushes and holder to dry them, and everytime I make a purchase from them, I tell them I am doing so BECAUSE of fashionista.

This is the reason I try sub boxes. My town doesn’t have makeup stores or places you can go and see stuff before purchasing. So I have sub boxes that I try their different brands/formula etc in Hope’s it works and if I like a forumla or an eyeliner pallette, I will go to that brand and buy other pallettes and try them out. That’s why I hope this box steps it up and sends legitimate good stuff. I take pride and invest in my collections and I felt like this box tends to send random stuff I would never buy from or look for….but the past month or so seems to be looking better…I hope they now start to get better brands and items..

I see another hair care junk for October..I wish boxes would stay away from hair gunk. Send me all the GOOD makeup brands and just a tiny amount of skincare…send me good brushes to try out….tools etc

I love this box, it is the only one I now receive. The products this month were mostly winners. Like you was not impressed with the pallet, the colors just did not have a lot of staying power. I did however love that lipstick, I have at least 40 lipsticks, but this is the only one I have used since receiving.

I love this box and the theme of getting products from round the world! I think they’re doing a great job including products that peak my interest and that wouldn’t already be in my collection!

I loved the curation for the September box!

I like the curation of this box – but the value seems quite similar to Boxycharm – and I don’t have to pay an additional $40 to have it shipped to me in Canada. This would be a huge hard pass for me based on the price difference.

I think once the box has been around a bit longer & subscriber numbers go up that we may see them negotiate a lower shipping rate for Canada.

Great review Taryn, once again! I loved my Sept Box by Fashionsta – I actually gave away a few of the products not realizing how amazing they’d be. My friends are now thrilled and I just smile when they talk about the shampoo, eyeshadow, and lipstick being AMAZING. LOL. Oh well, I’m overwhelmed with products anyway. 😉

Looking forward to October!
