October 2020 So Susan Color Curate Review

Our included info card had a super cute shell design and a list of all of the products inside.

Limited-Edition Makeup Bag, October 2020 - Retail Value $12.00

The pattern this month was a vibrant ode to fall leaves. The interior was a pale yellow.

So Susan Cosmetics Butterstain Palette in 'Rose Flesh', 12 g - Retail Value $35.00

Most of you know I enjoy a nice cream blush palette but I have to admit I was underwhelmed with this one. Sure, you can also use it on your lips too, which adds some versatility. I actually liked this texture better on my lips. It feels a little slippy for my cheeks and the way the blush settles seemed to maximize my pores. On my lips though? Really pretty and soft. I think the colors are very soft and wearable, but something about this trio just wasn't 100% there for me.

Top to bottom: Buttercream, Latte, and Biscotti

Jelly Pong Pong Cosmetics Cosmic Light in 'Prism', 2.3 g - Retail Value $35.00

I feel like loose pigments have become an every month deal with this bag, and I really wish they weren't. This is mostly because I am a total disaster and I always spill them but also because sometimes the pigments are actually really rough glitters that are never, ever going anywhere near my eyes. This was luckily more of a soft powder and the pearly shade was very pretty and had a very subtle pinkish shift.

This is a very pretty shimmer.

So Susan Cosmetics Liquid Crystal in 'Spiced Latte', 5 mL - Retail Value $21.95

I thought this might be a little too brown when I swatched it, but on my naturally flushed lips, it was actually super pretty and very, very fall! I liked the color a lot. I could do without the scent of this formula. It reminds me a little of bathroom cleaner. This is a shame because I would use this a lot otherwise. But, alas, my lips are awfully close to my nose. In terms of texture, this was an almost sort of matte finish that never truly dried down and never got flaky, which was a plus! I hope that I wake up tomorrow less bothered by this scent because this is a dream in terms of autumn lips.

It looks less brown on my face.

Even makeup-free (and red AF!) this is still a very pretty color.

So Susan Cosmetics LipoPout in 'Parrots', 3.5 g - Retail Value $18.95

The cute packaging of this bullet had me really excited about this one. My reservations began when I swatched it. It is a very pale pink. Like... real pale. It still looked ok on my arm, so I applied. Y'all, this was dreadful on my face. Yes, I am redness-prone and my lips are naturally darker than this shade, but wow. I was unprepared for this. Even with a face finished with a perfect foundation and zero redness, I can't see this working. It's a shame because I liked how buttery smooth this formula was and even the scent was fine. But this is a big no from me.

"That looks pretty!"

I... I will not be wearing this again.

Verdict: So Susan Color Curate has a value of $122.90 this month which is a good value for a $20.59 bag. I just wasn't feeling it this month. I didn't like the scent of one lipstick (but that color!!) and the color on the second was a huge, huge miss despite the adorable packaging. The loose pigment was pretty but nothing super exciting and the palette was just ok. Hopefully, I have better luck next month.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

Thank you Megan for always modeling the lipstick and make up products. It is refreshing to see how you aren’t afraid to show a red face, funny lipstick colors, and masks (clay, sheet and everything in between!) on the internet. Your honesty is extremely welcomed 😊

Also, I just have to say I absolutely love your writing style. I always feel like I’m being taken for a nice, enjoyable ride when I read your reviews. You are certainly talented!

Your review of the second lip color made me laugh! And I’m not really sure who that color would flatter?
