Kids Favorites

Welcome to our monthly post highlighting our favorite discoveries in a new category: KIDS subscription boxes! Here are our favorite children's books, kids clothing items, art projects, and more from the past month:

Becca's Favorite:

The Item: Think Outside Backpack

The Cost: N/A

From: Think Outside

Why I love it: What's orange, and waterproof, and folds into a tiny little carrying case? This awesome Think Outside backpack!!! While we have a ton of backpacks, this lightweight, multi-pocket version is perfect to pack day-trip gear in. My boys have stuffed this baby to the gills, and love it! The strap even has a built in whistle, which is a definite added bonus. While the backpack is wonderful, I have to mention the entire subscription rocks, and my kids ask almost everyday when the next month's shipment will come!

The Item: Rocket Says Look Up! by Nathan Bryon

The Cost: $17.99

From: Little Feminist Book Club Ages 3-7

Why I love it: The day before this book arrived, my son told us he is going to be an astronaut when he grows up. We are going on two weeks now of this being his absolute favorite book and he asks us to read it to him every night before bed. In this book, we are introduced to Rocket, an aspiring astronaut who wants to share her love of the sky and stars with everyone around her. When Rocket learns that there will be a visible comet, she decides to announce it to people at the supermarket and hands out flyers. She wants everyone to look up and see it! She even wants her brother Jamal to come and see it since he is always looking down at his phone. Rocket and so many other people from her neighborhood show-up that night to the park to see the comet, but nothing happens for a while and it makes Rocket so sad. Then the comet comes and she is so excited! Her dreams are coming true and everyone is there to see it with her, all looking up at the sky! Through this book, my son was able to see another kiddo that has the same dream as he does and he was able to learn about the famous astronaut Mae Jemison. The best part about this book and subscription is that we are able to show my son books with female lead characters from various backgrounds. We are working hard to teach our kids that everyone is equal, and that no dream is too big, this book has been a shining star in showing him all of these things while allowing him to learn more about something that he has a big interest in!

Christen's Favorite:

The Item: Itzy Ritzy Mom Boxx Multi-Use Cover

The Cost: $29.99

From: Wumblekin Ultimate Labor + Birth Pack

ACTIVE DEAL: Save $10 off your first subscription box
CODE: Wumblekin2020

Why I love it: I had a cute, muslin car seat cover that snapped down the front for my daughter when she was a baby. It looked adorable folded in a drawer but in reality, it was a pain to fasten in a hurry, it didn't allow enough room for my husband's forearm to hook around the carrier bar, and was ultimately more trouble than it was worth. These stretchy ones are nothing new to the scene, but after my muslin experience I have a new appreciation for them! Being able to slide it on or off the car seat sounds so much easier, and I especially love that it serves multiple purposes—the shopping cart liner use is a great idea!

Brandi's Favorite:

The Item: Melissa & Doug Tape Activity Book

The Cost: Retail Value $4.99

From: Sensory Theraplay

Why I love it: We have just begun our homeschool journey and so far this little book has proved to be great at occupying my kiddos!  The glossy pages feature different designs, some of which are simple for my younger children, and some that are more detailed for my daughter. The washi tape removes easily so they can complete these designs over and over again. It also rips very easily or can be cut with scissors making it great for fine motor skill development as is actually placing the tape. This is a fun activity that can also travel well and I love how affordable it is!

Haley's Favorite:

Surprisly September 2020 outfit 1

The Item: Iceberg Raglan Romper from Inchworm Alley

The Cost: $39.99

From: Surprisly

Why I love it: This romper is like a full-body sweater!  It's so soft inside and I want this in my size, please. The pastel color scheme is gorgeous. Inchworm Alley uses a zero-waste design process so the placement of the iceberg picture may vary and each piece is a little different. An awesome extra detail is that the inseam is actually a zipper! This makes diaper changes so easy. I love this piece!

Hi there, I'm Christen. I am all sorts of things:

🌳 a writer who loves to convey feeling

🌲 a mother who wants to have just as much fun as my kids do

🌳 an outdoors-lover who's achieved #1000hoursoutside with my family

🌲 a low-maintenance self-carer

🌳 a general hungry person with an unstoppable sweet tooth

You'll find me collecting stationery and squirreling away stickers, riding bikes and swimming with my family, creating outfits in colors and silhouettes that make me feel amazing, wearing big earrings, drinking beer and asking my husband to feed me harmonies to sing, taking my vitamins, living for dancing to live music, roping everyone into a craft, being human and vulnerable, and celebrating the phenomenon of being alive.

...and doing it all with energy, delight, and jokes along the way.
