Seasonal subscription plan: Now renewing every 3 months instead of every month. Spring Boxes begin shipping mid-March. Summer Boxes begin shipping mid-June. Fall Boxes begin shipping mid-September. Winter Boxes begin shipping mid-December.

Size change: We are now offering size XS to 2XL. For more details, check out our FAQ page.

I was pretty pleased with what the summer box had to offer, so let's check out this fall installment!

We received this mini-magazine with all of the information about our box inside. Each page tells us all about the designer and then gives a brief description and the retail value of our items. On the back, it lists some member perks which includes a 20% off code for anything in their shop! This quarter they are highlighting brands owned, founded, or led by BIPOC.

Autumn Air Navy Scarf by My Fashion Crate - Listed Value $37.00

Our first item is actually from My Fashion Crate this scarf is incredibly soft and feels nicely made but the tag is completely in Chinese so I'm not sure what the fabric makeup is. This is listed as a blanket scarf, but it is pretty narrow and short (about 12" by 72"); not quite what I think of as a blanket scarf. It also doesn't really scream fall to me as the description states, but I think that has a lot to do with the size since this shorter style feels more formal to me. I'd love to hear what you think of this scarf (pictured further down)!

Three Layer Threaded Necklace by Arlokea - Listed Value $35.00, Retail Value $40.00

While the scarf didn't wow me, this necklace definitely did! This gold-covered brass chain is adjustable for a 10 to 12-inch hanging length and has three different colored threads on each bar. I love the way this looks, it's unique and lays beautifully! This comes from a brand that is dedicated to providing functional and ethical fashion by contributing to the community they work in. They operate with transparency and aim to provide sustainable, environmentally friendly products. This necklace was actually handmade by artisans in India and it is part of their fair trade collection which promotes equality and education while preserving cultural traditions in addition to the jobs that it creates.

Unity Tote Illustrated by Bieunkah and Created by Wastewear - Listed Value $35.00

I really love the design and the idea of unity behind it and I also really love that this tote was made from recycled materials through a company that is dedicated to sustainability. While I think the idea of working with a designer and turning recycled materials into something useful is fantastic, the branding on the tote makes it feel more like a promotional item than a luxury item to me, especially since this design can be found on other items from the artist. I wish that the illustration was on one side with the branding on the back since the illustration itself is really cute!

Here is a look at the scarf and tote.

GloGirl Lipstick in Ciao Bella - Retail Value $16.00

The next two items both come from the same brand, GloGirl, which "strives to celebrate and empower the diverse beauty of women and represent inclusive beauty on a global scale," a fantastic mission. This lipstick is enriched with Vitamin E and has a satin finish. While I loved the color swatched, it actually was a bit chalky on my lips and not too flattering for my complexion since it is more of a nude. This also didn't have great staying power, although I didn't try it with a primer on.

GloGirl Goddess II Eyeshadow Palette - Retail Value $26.00

This palette comes with a built-in mirror and has some unique shades in a mix of mattes and glittery shadows. The colors felt pretty bold to me, so I wasn't sure how I would pull them off, but I really loved the colors in general. I thought the pigment was great and these seemed to last throughout the day! The Goddess theme is fun and it's actually a similar theme to a palette that I received when they were still sending monthly boxes, although these colors are much more varied which will be fun to experiment with!

Here they are swatched just below the lipstick. In order from top to bottom, they are Treina, Hathor, Anut, Mehit, Bastet, Isis, Amunet, Thandiwe, and Nephthys.

Here you can see the necklace, lipstick, and the eye makeup look I created using the color Thandiwe in the outer corner blended with Treina in the center and the matte color Mehit in the crease. I can't wait to test out some more looks with the blue and purple shades!

The following item only comes in the Style Box and not the Accessory Box:

Nearady Top in Palm by Tonle - Retail Value $55.00 (found here for $48.00)

The last item is this luxe top made with recycled and remnant fabrics and handcrafted in Cambodia. I love that the tag was tied onto the shirt with a scrap of fabric and that it is actually filled in with the name of who created my top. Tonle is dedicated to ethical, sustainable fashion with a zero-waste process. With all of that in mind, I am impressed with the quality of the top and I love the way it fits. It's a soft gauze-like cotton material, very lightweight, airy, and comfortable. It will look great with some darker skinny jeans and a pair of booties for fall!

Verdict: At $92.95 ($85 + $7.95), I would definitely say that the contents of this My Fashion Crate box should fall more into the luxury category, but overall, the items just did not have that feel to me. Once you are an established brand, I could definitely see including branded items, but instead, the scarf and the bag felt more promotional than luxe to me. The two pieces that I really loved were the top and the necklace, both of which were definitely quality pieces and felt appropriate for this box. As for the makeup, I am torn. I thought the quality was decent, but the lipstick and palette didn't feel especially unique, which I think is what I'm missing from the box as a whole this quarter. The total listed value comes to $204 which isn't bad, but after such a great first box for summer, this one left me feeling a bit underwhelmed, although I do love the ethical and sustainable missions of the brands this quarter!

This box is consistently pretty terrible, but charging over $90 to ship this box of Dollar Store looking items is outrageous.

Nadia

wow this box was truly awful

85.00 What? why? I’d be highly upset if I paid this much for what they included. They value that $2.00 tote bag at 35.00 No just No

Diamond

It’s like they gave you a box of stuff they couldn’t sell.

Kristin

Um just no for me personally.

Uh…this box is no bueno. The top is kind of cute but it looks like a couple of washes and you’ll be looking at some issues like unraveling threads or wacky shrinkage. I would be beyond mad if I spent $80 and got these items. There should be a wow factor for $80.

Boxtopus!

This is a great review, Brandi, and I feel the same way. I’m not wowed by this one. I really like the top, and I think it looks great on you, but I think if they didn’t try to include makeup, they’d have a better box. The scarf is definitely not blanket-sized, and I’m not a fan of the tote.

Thanks so much, Boxtopus! Love hearing your thoughts on the items! 🙂

The tote is overpriced. I don’t think I’ve paid more than $10 for a nice one. The branding def lowers its value. The blouse is cute tho! Going into colder months you could layer it over a turtleneck! That would still be cute! Agree about unknown makeup brands being considered luxe…um nope!
The necklace would be a win, for me, too. At least the palette has decent pigment! It will be fun for you to play with! Didn’t this used to be more affordable? Did they raise the price?

Hi MzBev! Great idea about the turtleneck and blouse! This used to be a monthly subscription at a lower price point but over the summer they switched to a more expensive quarterly model. If you check out the summer review, they did a nice job with the first box and making it feel more luxe, but this one didn’t quite have that same vibe to me! Thanks for reading! 🙂

I want to like this box and even tried it, but it doesn’t lux at all. I’ve found it very disappointing

Amy

Wait so is the $85 box just the $55 box plus a shirt? That’s a mega ripoff

That necklace and palette look alright, the scarf seems okay too but nothing in that box says “$55” to me personally. I might look into the necklace more and see what else that brand has to offer

Everything is cute when styled, but nothing looks to be of a quality worth paying for other than the necklace

Yes, the only difference between the two boxes is the addition of the blouse. Thanks for reading and sharing your opinions, Amy! 🙂

I really liked your honest review. When the box was monthly and less expensive, it seemed to cater to the mid tier fashion seeker, which I thought was nice, since the other clothing boxes can be expensive. But now that they are quarterly, they are just 8 dollars less than Curator. I know Zoe doesn’t usually include clothing, but they should at least aspire to that level of quality. I have little incentive to get this box when I can find other lux boxes for just a little more.

This was there first quarterly box. I hope they figure it out. They need to look at new suppliers and partnerships, not stick with their previous supply chains when they were a more economy focused fashion box.
