Merkaela "Flow" Box Summer 2020 Review

This season's theme is "Flow" and it encourages that hard to capture self-belief that you can reach your goals and you are capable of achieving your dreams.

Lemongrass Meditation Elixer, 2 oz - Retail Value $18.50

I feel like it is actually unfair for me to review this item because I really don't like lemongrass! What I can tell you is that the meditation mists from Merkaela are generally top-notch and super fragrant. This one smells strongly of lemongrass and arrived in an amber glass bottle with a fine mist nozzle. Lemongrass is known for being an energizing scent (I find it way too sharp) but I could see this becoming a really wonderful addition to an energetic morning yoga session.

Cranberry Soap Bar, 3.5 oz - Listed Value $9.50

I thought this soap would be sweet and fruity, but it was actually so much closer to tangy, citrusy, and botanical. I loved this soap! The cranberry seeds inside give it such a pretty look and they also gently exfoliate as you use the bar more and more. My whole shower fills up with this smell and it clings to my skin in a very subtle way for a little while after I am all dried off. This soap is also very moisturizing!

Lively Salt Bath, 8 oz - Retail Value $18.00

I always feel super fancy when I can pour beautiful bath salts into a warm tub! These arrive in a clean and very classy looking clear glass bottle. Depending on how much you use per soak, this larger bottle could last a long time! I was surprised to see lemongrass as one of the oils used inside because it smells nothing like lemongrass to me and I actually love this fragrance. It seems much more green with a hint of mint? Maybe my nose is confused today! The other possibility is that the cinnamon and sage mellow out that lemongrass? Either way, loved this relaxing soak!

Earl Grey Herbal Tea, 2 oz - Retail Value $8.50

Before I switched to green tea, Earl Grey was my favorite! I still absolutely adore this highly-caffeinated black tea with its notes of florals and bergamot. Yum. This tea is especially magical with some vanilla and milk added in to create some sort of magical tea dessert. This particular blend is heavy on the bergamot (A+) and includes lovely blue cornflower petals.

Bloodstone - Listed Value $4.00

Ahhhh, bloodstone. A stone of perseverance, courage, and protection. What more could I ask for in a year like 2020? This little stone (under an inch long) is beautifully flecked with those red spots that give it its unforgettable look and name.

Sage Body Oil, 4 fl oz - Retail Value $30.00

This was my favorite item this month. It's a big glass bottle of body oil that truly smells fantastic! I use oil on my legs nearly daily because for some reason many lotions cause my calves to break out in little red bumps. Sage is one of those scents that has so many different memories attached to it for me, all of them very positive! Thanksgiving herbs, my favorite incense, and the freedom of a foggy hike through the woods. Everything green and good! This fragrance is suspended in a blend of oils that include jojoba, rice, sea buckthorn, hemp castor, and more. The moisturizing factor here is out of this world and I am very thankful this bottle arrived with a glass stopper top to make using it easy.

Sacred Sage Bundle - Listed Value $7.00

Sage bundles have been a little controversial recently so I was happy to see the card stating these herbs were "sustainably sourced and ethically wildcrafted". Sage is a sacred plant and it should be treated with respect and intention. This bundle arrived with a white feather to disperse the smoke while you use it.

Affirmation Card

I wake up happy and excited every single day. I crave new, healthy experiences. I find new oppurtunities to be kind and caring everything [sic] I look. I easly accomplish all of my goals.

Our box also arrived with a card leading to a meditation playlist. A quick scan with a QR code reader and I was enjoying a 10 song playlist on Spotify.

The Verdict: Merkaela always feels very special and lovely, and this summer box was no exception. Even as someone who dislikes lemongrass this box was a total hit. The formulas from this brand always feel nourishing and made with intention in a way that is very special to this brand. My favorite item was the beautiful sage oil. It makes me feel so calm and warm. The soap was another highlight, as well as the delightful tea! If you are looking for a beautifully created and curated box, this is well worth your time.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No. Your first box will be the upcoming Fall box!

ACTIVE DEAL: Save 10% off your first box!
CODE: SOLSTICE

Value Breakdown: The box costs $81.52 ($72 + 9.52 shipping to PA), which means the average cost per item via the box is $11.65. I did not include the mantra card or the playlist in this calculation.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

I would love some of these products, like the tea and the soap, but a polished rock with a value of $14?? LOL 😂

My kids used to love buying polished rocks at national parks gift stores. We would fill up a tiny bag for $5 or so.

Hey Beth! It should read $4 (I have corrected!). Still pricy for a single rock, but better than $14!

Now that’s more reasonable! 😝. Thank you for the review, sounds like a fun box.

I also get bumps from many body lotions, especially after shaving. I’ve been using Neutrogena’s Sesame Body Oil for years. I like it, but have been swooning over all the cool body oils I’ve seen in sub boxes. They don’t appear super frequently, but I’ve been seeing them a bit more often. I think I may just buy the oil in this review. Your description of it makes that idea very enticing.

I love this box, but it is too spendy for me. I don’t mind buying one item from the box every once in a while, but for the price of this sub with many items I would use, but very few that I actually need, I unfortunately have to pass.

Merkaela had a 22% off all sub plans not too long ago. I let MSA know about it, but it wasn’t posted. 🙁 It’s since expired (or you can try code EQUINOX to see if it still works), but hopefully Merkaela will do another discount for the holidays. 🙂

I used that code today! It worked 🙂

Finally, I see I am not the only person who doesn’t like lemongrass.

This box really appeals to me and I’ve never seen it before. Are there any spoilers for the fall box? I’m thinking I may switch to this seasonally rather than the Bombay and cedar seasonal box. Any thoughts?

Steph

I haven’t subbed for a while but they normally don’t do spoilers. With the exception of the spray, their products are very lightly scented. This was the one reason I didn’t keep the sub as I like more scent.

Ana

I like more pronounced scents too. I may try one to see if I like it though. Thanks.

Tiffany

Great to know! I like less scent. 😊

Love this subscription. Have enjoyed everything this month. Their body butters are really outstanding, too.
