I believe you’re correct Daja. And 24 day ones start on the 1st & finish on the 24th, Christmas Eve. You don’t open a door/gift (typically) on Christmas Day because on that day there are gifts from family/Santa/etc.
So advent calendar gifts are are something like the appetizers before the meal…lol

I thought the “12 days of Christmas” are Christmas and the 11 days after it. What is this counting down to?

I have always thought 25 days calendars are the ones you start at the begging of December and open the last day on Christmas day, meanwhile, the 12 days of Christmas is the period that starts on Christmas day (or the day after Christmas, not sure) and ends on January 6th, with the celebration of Epiphany. That’s the day that some people around the world open up presents (like in Spain) or give all kinds sweets to kids (some parts of Latin America). Because it’s when the wise men finally arrived with presents for baby Jesus. It’s more tied up to tradition than anything.

I’m pretty sure 12 day doors are meant to be open every other day leading up to Christmas but I could be wrong.

I’ve always been under the impression that you time it to open the last one on Christmas Day.
