Switch Subscription Box August 2020 Review

Everything arrived in a super slick and very high-end looking black box. Inside, there were multiple info cards explaining all the deets about this subscription. All of these cards are really informative and helpful in explaining all the facets of this service. They cover care tips, return instructions, and even a guide if you fall head over heels in love with a piece, which... does... happen.

This is the first delivery I have received with the new cloth shipping bag. It arrived with a clear zip-tie to make sure no one tampered with it.

The return kit includes a shipping label, instructions, and another zip-tie to make sure it get back in perfect condition.

Let's see what I picked this month!

Nadine Aysoy Celestine Ruby Disc Ring, Size 8 – Retail Value $705.00, Member Price $545.00

Although I wear fun rings a little less these days (I focus more on earrings and necklaces since they show off better over Zoom!) I couldn't resist this cheery ruby disc. It has a lot of things I love in jewelry, enamel, symmetry, and the gombo of gold and red rubies. This ring was bigger than I imagined bu the way the shank is designed gives it a lot of balance and support. Hey, sometimes you were jewelry just for yourself, and seeing this beauty twinkle on my finger all day long while typing up reviews made the pick this month totally worth it.

I love this design. It feels like wearing a fine art sculpture.

DEMARSON Bianca Hoop Earrings (Tiger Glass/Grey Agate) – Retail Value $375.00, Member Price $370.00

The fact that these earrings could be swapped from ear to ear for two different looks was endlessly appealing to me. One side is a cloudy grey agate and the reverse is a clear glass with golden brown flecks. My ears sit rather close to my skull and depending on which ear I wear each earring in, I can get two different looks from this pair. These feel really high quality and a little bit heavy, though nothing that would ever keep me from wearing them! I also really liked the thick golden stripe between the two sides.

This shows off the stripes and glass side...

And here is the beautiful stormy grey agate.

Rebecca de Ravenel Mother of Pearl Flower Earrings Gold – Retail Value $545.00, Member Price $505.00

Ok, I knew these would be large, but I seriously had no clue how large! Happily, these afford quite a dramatic look with very little weight on the ears. I also wasn't aware these were clips but they stayed in place on my ears with no trouble. The petals are a carved mother of pearl and the centers feature a golden threaded spiral. These are so big and bold I really just love them. They would look killer with a chic black turtleneck and a top knot.

The petals reflected so much light!

The Verdict: My Switch pieces for August were all somehow sculptural and very artsy. I am way into each of them and I am not looking forward to sending them back. I think those giant flowers by far made the largest impression on me, but the ruby ring and agate hoops were both also pretty unforgettable.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Pieces can get snatched up quickly, and the number of pieces they have per style varies. You may or may not see these pieces in their available inventory list – but you might just see something you like even more! This isn’t a “styled” subscription, meaning you can pick exactly what you want from the available list – it’s not selected for you based on an algorithm or your preferences.

ACTIVE DEAL: Save 50% off your first month
CODE: LOVEMSA

Value Breakdown: In this shipment, I tried out $1625.00 of jewelry for $69 – which is less than 5% of their retail value and a great deal if it works for your budget and needs. It’s pricier than Rocksbox (which offers mid-range designer jewelry) but less than Rent the Runway (which offers designer jewelry, accessories, and clothes, too).

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

AH

I love how bright and cheery the flower earrings are, but I would be really worried that one would fall off since they are clip ons and/or just breaking in general because they look super thin and fragile. Just curious if you worried at all about breaking them?

I love the idea of getting to try such high end jewelry but knowing my luck, I would have some accident and since they do that temporary charge/hold, it sounds like they find you fully responsible for damage? Since it is more than likely used when you get to wear it, and you don’t have any idea how it was used (gently or roughly to put it simply), it is kind of off-putting to me. Please correct me if I am wrong about any of this. Also, I am just curious if something showed up damaged, which to me is always possible in shipping, would you be found liable? And my last question would be, when something does end up damaged, are you charged the retail, members, or a repair fee?

Sorry I honestly really didn’t realize how many questions I had, but I think some of these questions/answers might be important to future reviews, especially if you’re interested in subbing.
I think most of us are used to the sub box replacing a damaged item, if they aren’t boxy at least lol, and this is also a rental. I guess I have the same questions for rocksbox, but I feel that stakes are wayyyyy lower since the cost of a single piece here is at least 5-6x the price of a rocksbox piece.

The Switch Team

Hi AH,

We truly appreciate and love any and all feedback, as we like to know how to better our service and products. Thank you for pointing these important questions out, a lot of prospective members ask these questions and damage is a rare issue when it comes to being a Switch member.

All items we carry go through rigorous screening upon being added our collection, prior to being sent to our members and upon being returned to us. If there is any question about a piece’s durability, we won’t send it out. If a piece is damaged during shipping, our members aren’t charged for the damage. As long as our members notify us immediately if a piece arrives damaged or there is any potentially defect such as a faulty clasp, they will not be charged.

Additionally, our membership plans cover minor wear and tear, so our members aren’t responsible for a repair fee for anything small like a scratch and if the piece is repairable. While it is rare, if our members do lose a piece or damage it beyond repair, they would be responsible for the member price of the piece (not retail price), less any purchase credit accrued.

We also do offer several earring styles that feature push backs so they are more secure and since exchanges are free and unlimited, if you get a style and you feel unsure about it, you can switch it out for something else.

We hope this helps—we really try to go above and beyond to select pieces that are good for several uses, ones that you can wear every day without any sort of worries. Let us know if you have any other questions.

Best,
The Switch Team
