Our Subscription Box BEAUTY Favorites for August 2020!

We know you love our monthly favorites posts so here's our monthly post highlighting our favorite BEAUTY discoveries from subscription boxes! Here are our favorite skincare, green beauty, and makeup items from the past month:

Ragan's Favorite:

The Item: Scentuals Rosehip Beauty Oil Blend

The Cost: $22.43

From: Vegancuts Beauty Box

ACTIVE DEAL: $40 off. No coupon needed - just use this link.

Why I love it: This was a new item for me as well as a new brand and I've always liked the discovery aspect of subscription boxes. I also really like skincare with antioxidants and rosehips are high in vitamin C. It also had some pretty immediate effects (well, overnight, anyway) with respect to improving redness and it didn't leave my skin feeling oily.

Naomi's 2 Favorites:

Essential Rose Life Indulge Mood Fragrance Oil Front for Nourish Beauty Box August 2020

The Item: Essential Rose Life Indulge Mood Fragrance Oil

The Cost: $26.00

From: Nourish Beauty Box

ACTIVE DEAL: Sign up for emails to get 20% off your first box. No coupon needed - just use this link.

Why I love it: This is a first for me. Anyone who knows me will tell you: I don’t like perfume, any strongly scented products, or anyone trying to sell me essential oils. But this delightful little roll-on has changed my whole perspective. The scent is incredibly unique, calming, and soothing, with a combination of rose, cardamom, and pepper, creating an extraordinary spicy musk. This wonderful little product came to the beach with me all of August. The indulgent scent was an extra little self-care step I could take for myself, especially in such stressful times as the world is in now. It took my relaxation time to a whole new level.

Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist Front for Ipsy Glam Bag August 2020

The Item: TATCHA Luminous Dewy Skin Mist

The Cost: $6.00 (Full-size $48.00)

From: Ipsy Glam Bag

Why I love it: Face mists, especially ones with ultra-fine misters, are one of my favorite skincare products. Tatcha really delivered here with this micro-misting hyaluronic acid skin mist. Not only is the light spritz super refreshing, but it also nourishes skin. It always leaves my skin feeling bouncy and hydrated. I may be a little obsessed… The only downside is that this bottle is very small and I’m almost completely out, and I want more! But at this price point, the product is definitely for fancy ladies and not budget babes like me.

Jessica's Favorite:

The Item: Lovinah Eye Magic Palette

The Cost: $45

From: Boxwalla Limited Edition Beauty Box

Why I love it: This eyeshadow palette is full of magical shimmers and pigmented matte shades, and I love that it is from a Black-owned brand that ensures their products will work for all skin tones. Plus, even though some of the colors are downright bold and beautiful, there are colors in here that are also work-makeup friendly.

Abby's Favorite:

The Item: Zion Health Deep Clean Scalp & Hair Scrub

The Cost: $19.99

From: Kinder Beauty Box

Why I love it: My hair has been the last thing on my mind this year. It's been tied up pretty much every day since March, but when I use this hair scrub, I have to let it flow! The uplifting pear fragrance lasts until I wash my hair again, and it gives my typically flat hair some texture to work with. I've been using this scalp scrub once a week, and I love the way it leaves my scalp feeling squeaky clean.

Haley's Favorite:

Sephora POP August 2020 amika hair mask

The Item: amika Flash Instant Shine Mask

The Cost: Buy a 6.7 oz full-sized bottle for $25

From: Sephora Favorites

Why I love it: amika products always smell so good! If this mask did nothing else, I would still use it to infuse the fragrance into my hair. But it does do something! I was really happy to see my hair looked smoother, shinier, and softer than my usual sans-hair-mask washes. My favorite thing about this? It takes 60 seconds! As a mom of 3 small humans, I usually don’t have time in the shower to sit and let a 10-minute mask sink in. Plus, I should be able to get 2-4 uses out of the 1 oz sample tube that they sent. This is a win for me!

Brandi's Favorite:

The Item: Peace of Mind Aromatherapy Balm

The Cost: N/A

From: Wicked Good Perfume

ACTIVE DEAL: Save 15% off your first month
CODE: MSA15

Why I love it: I’m going to be so sad when I eventually run out of this balm because it is so soothing to my sinuses which have been acting up lately due to allergies. I normally use basil essential oils on the bridge of my nose and my sinuses, but this also has peppermint and eucalyptus in it which provides even more relief. Plus it’s in a small tin that is so easy to take with me wherever I go for instant relief. There is also lemon and lime in this blend, although those were much more subtle in comparison to the other stronger scents.

Hi there, I'm Christen. I am all sorts of things:

🌳 a writer who loves to convey feeling

🌲 a mother who wants to have just as much fun as my kids do

🌳 an outdoors-lover who's achieved #1000hoursoutside with my family

🌲 a low-maintenance self-carer

🌳 a general hungry person with an unstoppable sweet tooth

You'll find me collecting stationery and squirreling away stickers, riding bikes and swimming with my family, creating outfits in colors and silhouettes that make me feel amazing, wearing big earrings, drinking beer and asking my husband to feed me harmonies to sing, taking my vitamins, living for dancing to live music, roping everyone into a craft, being human and vulnerable, and celebrating the phenomenon of being alive.

...and doing it all with energy, delight, and jokes along the way.

I love that amika product too! My hair is wavy and tends to frizz but this makes it so smooth. I have more hair products than I could ever use but I’m going to have to buy this one.

Does anyone know what happened to Marne? I really liked her reviews.

Simran @MSA

Hi Kimberly! Thanks for asking. We miss her too! Marne stepped back In May, but we hope she comes back to write about a few of her favorite boxes in the future. I’m sure you noticed most of her reviews have shifted to Megan, whom we adore and has been with the team for 2+ years.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Amanda and Mimosa. The company did go through some changes this year, and the best place to learn more is here: https://www.mysubscriptionaddiction.com/about (Thanks for sharing that out, Megan!). Also friendly reminder – our community policy is here: https://boxes.mysubscriptionaddiction.com/community_guidelines. We want MSA to be a fun, kind, and respectful space for everyone to be, including our writers who work incredibly hard. We wouldn’t be here without them posting about their favorite finds and reviewing boxes every day!

Which also brings me to…Naomi! I am obsessed with hyaluronic acid, but I have never tried a skin mist. Thanks for the tip!

I agree. I miss her, Anna Reilly, and Anna Rodriguez. I sure hope Megan hasn’t taken over this site.

Amanda,

There’s no way for me to reply directly to your comment, so I have to tack it on here.

I can agree with your support of Ragan and Haley, but your attacks on Taryn’s Bombay & Cedar review, and incredibly offensive barb towards Megan have just floored me. I can’t believe you are ripping into Taryn’s review over one misspelled word. Your criticism of Megan is ill-informed and arrogant. Liz sold MSA to Ampush LLC. The new MSA CEO is Simran Dua. The new ownership of MSA is changing MSA’s strategy – not Megan. Megan and Taryn continue to write informative, cheerful and welcome reviews. Your contempt is undeserved and poorly-targeted. I find your comment truly objectionable.

Hi Ashley. My role has not changed. We have more info on the team here: https://www.mysubscriptionaddiction.com/about
Have a great weekend!

Amanda

Liz has left, and her reviews were the ones that mattered most to me.
When a reviewer can’t even spell a 3 letter word like ” Cob- it was corn on the cob popcorn” but spells it as ” cobb, then there is a huge disconnect somewhere.
It’s like they promised random people free boxes to review and left it at that.

Exceptions: Ragan Buckley- who is both an attorney AND has a degree in chemistry. She knows exactly what goes into skincare and makeup items, even if she doesn’t always say so.
Haley Erwin- Has considerable experience with makeup application, isn’t stuck on red lipstick like the apparent owner of the site is, and is so naturally organic with her reviews and her look.

There are some reviews I won’t read now, I have such low esteem for the reviewers and the money grab for referrals. Looking at Meghan.

That indulge mood oil sounds great!

FYI, on me, the rose fades very quickly and the spicy cardamom is what sticks around.
