Macy's Friday Night Out Set September 2020 Review

Benefit Cosmetics 24-HR Brow Setter Mini, 0.11 - Retail Value $14.00

I’m taking a break from plucking my eyebrows due to my lack of success in that area, so this clear brow gel is great for when my brow hairs are thicker and longer and therefore more unruly. The wand on this has a fine comb to really help you shape your brows as you’re combing through, and I didn’t experience a crunchy finish the way some other brow gels finish.

Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray, 0.5 oz - Estimated Value $7.50 (buy the 1 oz version for $15.00)

This setting spray has a cult following, and it’s for good reason. A spritz or two of this over my face sets my makeup and helps it last a lot longer, while also helping to minimize any oil that may peel through the night. This doesn’t do a perfect job if I’m wearing a full face and it’s 90 degrees with 90% humidity (nothing can withstand that kind of pressure), but other than that I really love this setting spray.

p/y/t Plumping Lip Gloss in Horoscope, 0.20 oz - Retail Value $15.00 (on sale here for  $12.00)

I am wary of pumping lip glosses due to previous experiences that resulted in pimples forming on my lip line and uncomfortably burning rather than just tingling on my lips. Luckily, this gloss treated me really well! The tingling effect never crossed the line into burning and wasn’t uncomfortable to experience, and I had no irritation on the skin around my lips either. This clear sparkly gloss can be worn on its own, and also as a topper to another lip color to add some razzle-dazzle.

tarte™ Sex Kitten Eyeliner, 0.1 g - Retail Value $12.00

I prefer liquid eyeliner to pencils, but this is one of the better pencils I’ve used. The eyeliner is easy to control and stays put wherever you place it, and the pencil is soft and creamy so it glides across the delicate skin that is my eyelids with no tugging.

Here are the eyeliner and lip gloss swatched.

Ardell Pre-Cut Lashes in Demi Wispies - Retail Value $5.50

It has been a longgggg time since I’ve had any social event that would want me to apply false eyelashes, but they definitely fit in with trying to make my eye makeup more dramatic because a mask covers the rest of my face. These are pre-cut so each lash is in three pieces, and that helps with getting a better fit to your lash line. I also like it because I can apply just one part to the outer part of my eyes to add some drama without fussing with a full set of lashes.

Verdict: A night out now is a lot different than a night out a year ago, but what hasn’t changed is my love of makeup. Everything in this kit works to give you a put-together face, and I appreciate that other than the lip gloss, all of the products are used or visible when I’m wearing a mask. This set came with a full-size lip gloss and two travel-size products, so if the products are new to you the value is there. On the numbers side of things, Macy’s promised a $50 value and my math adds up to $54.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you order today? Yes, the Friday Night In Set and the Friday Night Out Set are still available for purchase.

Value Breakdown: This box cost $25 with free shipping and I calculated a total value of $54. That means you're paying approximately the following per item:

  • Benefit: $6.48
  • Urban Decay: $3.47
  • P/y/t: $6.94
  • tarte: $5.55
  • Ardell: $2.54

I am a staunch believer that pineapple doesn’t belong on pizza and when I’m not working as a family law attorney I enjoy hiking the Louisiana trails (alligator sightings are a favorite!) or relaxing with Duchess, my cat. I’m a sucker for anything labeled a mystery box and I’ve never met a bath bomb I didn’t like.

I got BOTH of these boxes and like them cause they were marked down to $15 each during a Macys sale and they shipped free.

I just received an email from Macy’s saying that the October beauty box was out of stock and I would not be receiving it. Did this happen to anyone else? I am disappointed.

I personally subscribed to this and got the same email as well, and then a few hours later got a notification that my purchase went through and the money came out of my bank account. I have no idea what’s going on or if I’ll get the box- I’ll see if I can ask anyone at MSA to investigate.

If I tried selling all that on eBay people will only want to pay $8 to maybe $11 for it.

Been trying to sell decent makeup lots for like $25-$40. Everyone expects to pay $15.

Tired of makeup. 💄 Just have so much of it. Plus it goes bad and also expensive.
