Fortune Cookie Soap “As You Wish” August 2020 Review

Here is the info sheet for this month’s box.

Mostly Dead OCD Hand Sanitizer, 1 oz -  Retail Value $2.49

Hand sanitizers are making a much more frequent appearance in the monthly boxes since we’ve started living in COVID times. I’ll take all I can get, especially ones that smell like honey, toasted almonds, pumpkin, and amber. Can you feel that? Fall is in the air, and it’s almost here!

Inconceivable! Perfume Oil - Buy the full-size version for $9.99

I don’t usually use perfume oils so these products are a bit of a miss for me- I am all ears if anyone has any suggestions for non-traditional ways to use them. This has a scent blend of fall woods, black amber, and poached pears topped with whipped cream. This gives off the same fall vibes as the hand sanitizer, so I may actually add a few drops to some warm water on the stove to scent my apartment (did I just come up with a non-traditional use while I was typing this review?).

Drop. Your. Sword. Scent Diffuser - Retail Value $12.99

I like using these scent diffusers in my car, but they also will work in other small spaces like closets and drawers. The scent of this is described as “medieval honey apple mead,” and I need to go find myself a meadery if mead tastes as good as this smells.

Mawiage Whipped Cream, 1 oz - Estimated Value $3 (Buy the 4 oz version for $11.99)

I am a big fan of the whipped cream lotion formula from FCS, so I am never unhappy to see it in the monthly boxes. I thought I smelled cinnamon when I applied it, but I think that smell is actually the cardamom that is blended with rose water, pistachio, pound cake, and buttercream. It almost reminds me of a cinnamon breakfast pastry, and it smells delicious while giving my dry legs the moisture it craves.

Pit Of Despair Shower Steamer, 1 ct - Estimated Value $2 (Buy a set of 3 for $5.99)

I love aromatherapy in my shower- I actually have a shower spray from FCS (this one!) that I use almost every time I shower. This little steamer was a delight- I put it out of the direct stream of water and experienced a relaxing shower that had fragrant notes of patchouli, lemongrass, and plumeria.

Prepare To Die Fortune Cookie Soap - Retail Value $3.99

Every quarter this box will send their signature fortune cookie-shaped soap! This is scented with cookie dough spiced with clove and saffron, and the design of this makes me feel like a teenaged-boy could really love it (I don't mean that in a bad way!). The soap itself lathers nicely, and it holds up in my shower pretty well even though the soap is thin.

The Verdict: FCS is one of my favorite affordable beauty boxes that I look forward to every month- I can always expect unique scents and fun products. My favorites in this box were the shower steamer and whipped cream, but I thought the scents on all of the items included this month were lovely.

Has anyone heard anything about September’s box?

I received my September box at the end of last week 🙂

I was about to ask the same thing…. seems late this month.🤷‍♀️

I have never seen Princess Bride either and don’t see any references on the descriptions to let me know it is related to that movie. I can certainly see how that was missed.

Joy-Not the Other One

I just signed up and I am on the wait list. Crossing my fingers it doesn’t last long.

I signed up for the waitlist on the 16th and I was #98. I got an email this evening saying I could sign up.

I had no clue what these little quotes were talking about on the products but now reading the comments and seeing people talk about it being from a movie called Princess Bride and and raving about it has me thinking I need to have this ready to go on my next to watch list!

You need to stop what you are doing and go watch it NOW! 😍

They did this EXACT same collection based on Princess Bride a few years ago… it is not original. I am surprised to see it in their monthly box, as I thought FCS comes up with new themes/collections for the subscribers and not just recycle old collections. Part of the price is paying for the “curation” but all they did this month was make more products using an old theme. Seems lazy.

I also saw they brought back the Mean Girls-based collection too as a “throwback” on their store site… that doesn’t bug me like it does for the subscription (but not sure if it is a warning sign for the company…).

When they do a theme again it’s due to customer demand. The FCS VIP & FCS Underground Facebook allows customers to give real time feedback and suggestions.

There’s a lot of people that request certain themes again and since they let you know the theme ahead is time and that allows time to skip I think it’s a great way to keep subscribers happy.

They’ve done this for while now. I like it because I missed these themes in the past. Also, I’d love it if they brought them back again because some of the scents are my favorites, and I don’t want to pay for shipping on a Create Your Own event.

Can anyone tell me when this box ships? I signed up August 20 and was immediately charged. I was then charged again last week. I haven’t received any tracking or shipping notification.

Heidi

The box ships around the 12th of every month.

Jody

Liz,
They bill a month in advance. Paying in August you should get the Sept. box.

Liz Carter

Right. Do you know when boxes ship?

I love this subs, I look forward to it every month. The Princess Bride is a favorite, of course. My whole family quotes it all the time. This was my favorite theme ever, and the box I disliked the most. I really hated the smell of the hand sanitizer, it smelled gross, same with the roller ball. The lotion wasn’t too horrible but I’d never use it. I did like the scent diffuser and the shower steamer.

I loved the names of all the products and that the fortune cookie soap had that little sword in it. This company has so much creativity, and make many nice products! Even when I’m not thrilled with something,I still love it. I can’t see myself giving up this sub ever.

The car scent diffuser can be replaced with any roller ball. So, if you like the perfume – but won’t wear it – use it in your car or closet, etc.

I can’t believe you didn’t even talk about the inspiration for this box. “The Princess Bride” is my favorite movie of all time.

And not even an attempt to figure out where the theme came from? Even the other review site knew what movie this was from. I didn’t realize that there were so many people who had never even heard of this movie. I must be getting too old.

It is a great movie! I went to look on their website, and all of the *As You Wish* stuff is sold out. I am very sad right now.

Tiffany

Sometimes they bring products back, and they also do restocks for current collections. They already did an As You Wish restock, but you can select the red “In stock Reminder” on each item’s full page in case they do a second re-stock.

prettypony

Why has no one mentioned this is all from the Princess Bride? I need all of this!

Reply ButtonReply

Lisa

Yes, I was rereading the descriptions to see when the movie reference would be there. One of my favorite movies too! I want this box just for the labels, haha!

Reply ButtonReply

Heidi

Yeah, I was really surprised that there was no mention of The Princess Bride directly in the review. How do you NOT mention the movie when talking about these products? That said, this was an amazing box and I loved everything in here. I share my boxes with my husband and he absolutely loves Inconceivable as a scent. He also has been wearing Prepare To Die in a fragrance mist regularly.

Flora

My guess is that she’s just younger than us. Some of us *ahem, dating myself* actually saw this in the movie theatre as a teen.

Molly

Ummm?? I think this reviewer really missed the whole, best part of this box!!! It’s all from The Princess Bride!! Hello?? And no teenage boy wants any of this! I promise.

Alice

This box is always nice. I love the names. The Halloween is so much fun!
