CAUSEBOX Summer 2020 Review

Each CAUSEBOX comes with a beautiful booklet full of information about each product, its origins, and other tips and anecdotes. I really love learning more about the independent makers behind artisan products and designers and this booklet had so much info! I always read this book from cover to cover!

Let's dive in!

PMD Beauty PMD Clean - Retail Value $99.00

This device arrived at the perfect time because my Foreo Luna Play just died and I have become really used to using this thing for a pore deep clean on my face. I have a sneaking suspicion that mine died because Will was also using it, so replacing my old Luna Play with a battery-operated option is great because this should last a lot longer! I will admit when I first tried one of these, I didn't expect much. But dang do those 7000 vibrations per minute really make a difference in my skin texture over time! Think of this as both a way to get your pores super clean and also a very gentle but highly effective way to exfoliate! There is also a little info on the site about how these vibrations are at a "perfect frequency" to firm the skin (not so sure about that one). Since I am used to the round handheld shape of my old device, this want might take a little bit of getting used to, but I look forward to using this daily!

FEYA Candle Co. Reed Diffuser in 'White Tea and Ginger' - Retail Value $24.00

(Subscribers will receive this in either 'White Tea & Ginger' OR 'Bergamot & Grapefruit'.)

I keep a diffuser in my office to make sure it is always smelling nice, and this scent is one of those sorts that is great for both summer and fall because it is both sweet and also a little herbal from the ginger. I am thrilled that this fragrance is pet-safe too! I placed all of the reeds inside for maximum scent and I am very much enjoying this scent combined with open windows and a crisp breeze.

Pepper + Vetiver Nesting Bowls - Retail Value $49.00

(All subscribers will receive this item.)

These bowls were the item I was looking forward to the most this season! I love nesting bowls and the soothing blues and greens of the watercolor design were calling my name! These shades are the sort that would work in any kitchen, even if you don't have much blue or green. They are a nice weight too, and very shiny! Will and I are in the middle of installing some floating kitchen shelves and I can't wait to store these out in the open so I can admire them even when I am not putting them to use.

AltCooking Hub Set of 6 Silicone Stretch Lids - Retail Value $8.99

(All subscribers will receive this item.)

These (rather genius) silicone lids are the perfect compliment to my new bowls. I have been trying to use less cling film and aluminum foil, and these super stretchy little lids are the perfect alternative to creating more trash. They are also shaped like turtles, which adds a cuteness factor I cannot ignore! The six different sizes inside can cover anything from an open dog food can to half of a cut watermelon!

Grace & Stella Hyaluronic Acid Serum, 1.7 fl oz - Retail Value $25.00

(All subscribers will receive this item.)

This is one of those brands I just don't know a lot about, but I do know about the ingredients inside. If you are looking for a basic hyaluronic acid serum, this isn't a bad choice at all! Hyaluronic acid is a sugar that is naturally found in the body and can hold 1000 times its weight in water. Basically, it's pretty freaking great for adding moisture to skin without leaving it feeling super heavy. This formula also has soothing panthenol and protecting glycerine to give those HA molecules even more of a boost. I think as someone who literally is always trying out new serums and skincare, this isn't a super exciting bottle and there are better serums out there, but this is still a decent HA serum for most skin types and this formula is vegan, cruelty-free, and Leaping Bunny certified.

Savhera Essential Oil Roll-on Duo in Tracy's Grace and Secret Zest - Retail Values $11.00 and $13.00

(Annual subscribers can choose between this set OR Matr Boomie Fringe Earrings OR Honua Hawaiian Skincare Malu Day Cream SPF30)

I do love me some essential oil roll-ons! Especially since TOMORROW is my first day back at yoga in literally 6 months. My studio is now offering classes outside and we will all be spaced out for safety, meaning I can totally use some EOs without offending a closeby neighbor! We also all have to wear masks throughout the whole thing. I am planning on applying the 'Secret Zest' blend to a spot on my mask because it is a super energizing blend of orange, bergamot, ylang ylang, and geranium. It should give me a little boost as I try to remind my body how to do a proper sun salutation. Post yoga I will try out the very relaxing 'Tracy's Secret' blend to wind down. It is a blend of orange, lavender, and rosemary. Yum!

Doctor Rogers RESTORE Healing Balm, 0.5 oz - Retail Value $30.00

(Annual subscribers can choose between this item OR Nanaka Juice Cleanse Citrus Bath Salts)

My final item is a smaller tube of the cult-fave RESTORE balm. Though this balm has a massive following (and for good reason) it is deceptively simple, containing only castor oil and glycerine. It is ideal for dry elbows and knees, as well as cuticles and brought patches on your skin. This small tube should last a really long time because you only need a pea-sized amount to get the job done!

Art Print

And in every box, CAUSEBOX includes a postcard print you can mail or frame. This one is so cheerful! And those strawberries are a summer dream.

Verdict: This CAUSEBOX has a value of about $260 which is fantastic for a $54.95 box. I thought this month was also a mix of items that are less expected in the sub box world along with some other types that are common. For example, the nesting bowls and lids? I was so excited about these because I haven't had anything similar arrive in recent memory. The PMD device was something I was kind of needing to replace in my skincare routine, and though I have gotten similar items before, it's not super common. I also loved the essential oil roll-ons and reed diffuser as delightfully fragrant additions to this assortment. The Dr. Rogers balm and serum rounded out a pretty diverse assortment without making the picks this month feel too random. All in all, I am very pleased with my Summer box, even though it was extra late arriving to me.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, but the Fall box ships soon!

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

Thanks, Megan. Spoilers always helpful. A little typo on Healing Balm description: It is ideal for dry elbows and knees, as well as cuticles and BROUGHT (you mean ROUGH, I think) patches on your skin.

So I just received my yearly box yesterday. Love everything in my box, but I have a question. So I opened up the tease bottle, but I noticed on the grey sleeve, that there is a small hole right in the center of the bottom. Like dead center, right through the grey and black fabric. Did anyone else have that on their bottle sleeve? Not sure if I should contact customer service about that, or if this is just some odd thing they all have? I also just inspected the glass, and I noticed there’s a small crack possibly on the neck. It feels smooth, but there’s a definite “crack”-looking imperfection and a black mark above it. Again, not sure if I should contact customer service about it. The hole in the fabric is a little annoyance, but the crack? I know it’s double-walled, but cracks can get bigger – if it is an actual crack and not just some weird crack-looking bubble or imperfection in the glass. Thoughts?

The hole in the bottom of the sleeve is intentional. There needs to be a place for air to be released when putting the sleeve on otherwise you’d never be able to get it to slide on. If there’s a crack in the glass, I’d send them a pic but if it’s just the glass because of the nature of blown glass, I wouldn’t worry about it.

I contacted Causebox by email on Saturday with pictures and they sent me a reply yesterday. I thought it would take a few days at least, but they responded within 24 hours. And they said they’re shipping out a new bottle as mine has a pretty visible crack. They also explained about the tiny hole, you learn something new every day. I’ve never had a bottle like this before with a sleeve, but it makes perfect sense it needs the hole for a Perfect seal, as well as to allow it to come out of the sleeve. They also gave me some tips on how to dispose of the tumbler, if needed. Super helpful. Great customer service. Coming from Boxycharm, you really come to appreciate GOOD customer service when you see it. Boxycharm has HORRIBLE customer service. Super happy, and just seriously impressed by Causebox.

Those PMD Facial Devices are officially the new jade face rollers of sub boxes. At least they’re small enough to be stocking stuffers.

Did I get a bad white tea & ginger diffuser? I don’t smell anything unless I sniff the bottle. The bowls and lids were the star of the show for me. I’m “meh” about everything else especially that miraculous, healing balm that looks and acts a lot like Vaseline.

Reply ButtonReply

Doreen

I had it out in the open by the front door and couldn’t smell anything but I just moved it into our small 1/2 bathroom and I can finally start to smell it!

Reply ButtonReply

Mieke

Nope, I can barely smell mine either, unless I stick my nose in it.

I even accidentally spilled it and still couldn’t really smell it. 🙁 I’ve flipped the reeds, I feel like it’s just not that smelly.

Anne

I’m in the same boat as you. I got the bergamot grapefruit diffuser and can barely smell it in the small bathroom in the basement. Which probably isn’t such a bad thing because when I do catch a whiff, it’s not my favorite scent. I do love the bowls but everything else was just okay for me.

I LOVE CauseBox! I’ve been a subscriber for a while now and I’ve gotten only a few items I didn’t really like. It wasn’t because of quality but rather a color or something I’d just never need or use. The items are sometimes unique and unexpected. And the nesting bowls are AWESOME as are those silicone lids. So useful!!!

Michelle

ooh, I see a note saying the box was shipped late. Gosh, I hope that doesn’t happen to the fall ones.

Reply ButtonReply

Michelle

I’m new to the reviews of Causebox. Is there a reason why this is being reviewed mid-Sept? I thought they were sending out the fall ones next week. Did they not send out summer until just before Fall (delays) due to covid? I hope the fall ones are coming out soon – it’s my first box with them.

Reply ButtonReply

Inge

Just got my Fall box today. I also didn’t get any notice about delay.

Reply ButtonReply

Jen

FYI, my Fall box was delivered today so I don’t think there’s a delay. 🙂

Megan K.

This is a good sign! I am excited already.

Frances

Mine was exactly the same as yours except I got the juice cleanse salts instead of the healing balm. It was my first Cause Box and I LOVED everything! Such a great value for the cost. I’m actively searching the swap site for more bowls 🙂

I love the bowls so much I bought a second set on Poshmark for $25.
I am normally not into diffusers, but the white tea & ginger seriously makes my office smell like a Westin. I love it.

Jeannette

The bowls are so awesome. Such usable sizes and so pretty. I love the PMD. This was truly an amazing box.

Lexi

Just to let you know, there’s just a lil teeny mistake, under the pmds, just in the description of product in the parentheses, it says it’s a purse and gives colour options that don’t apply to the PMD 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

Megan K.

Thank you, Lexi! I was so hurried to get this one up, I missed it. Thank you!

Lexi

I love reading the reviews and am glad as soon as they pop up, so definitely appreciate that 🙂

Ashleigh

Oh how I loved this box! I mean, those bowls are absolutely gorgeous, right?? I received the Honua lotion with my box, which introduced me to a new skincare line that I adore. Everything about this box was magic for me – although mine was a little different from yours (Honua, juice cleanse salts, bergamot grapefruit diffuser) I would have been happy with your variation also. I personally felt like Causebox couldn’t meet their own high bar with the fall box, but hopefully the winter box will look a little more like this summer masterpiece.

Reply ButtonReply

Megan K.

Yes to the bowl love! I wish I could have bought more in larger and smaller sizes to make an even bigger nesting set.

Reply ButtonReply

Ashleigh

I agree!

Kristin

Ok is this review very late or did you just get it, seems I have had my box about a month ago if not later. I honestly don’t think I got the oils, skincare or earrings in my box now that I see this review.

Reply ButtonReply

Errmmm

It sounds like you received one of the 3 “Summer Into” boxes, not the regular Summer Box.

Reply ButtonReply

Megan K.

Hi Kristin! I just got my hands on this box within the last 48 hours before the review was written! Ours was super late this season. It seems like a lot of them went out right away but there was a delay with others, and ours fell into that latter group.

Reply ButtonReply

Kc

That’s too bad you had to wait so long! I’m glad you finally got it though- the bowls and covers have been in constant use since I’ve gotten them, very high quality.

Caroline

It says in there that it arrived super late. I’m guessing that it’s got something to do with the trouble with the post office.

Reply ButtonReply

Kc

Seems very late since I got this box so long ago. It sold out early and were already into the fall box now. Wish the review was a little more timely unless for some reason hers had extremely late shipping.

Reply ButtonReply

Megan K.

Hey Kc! Ours was super late. I just got it within the last 2 days before the review went up!

DIxie

Love my nesting bowls so much!

Milena

Loved your review? Was there a new coupon for this? I’m waiting for a good one to finally sign up. 😀

Reply ButtonReply

Megan K.

Sorry for the confusion Milena! I misread something in our box directory. No coupon this time!

Jane

Hi Megan,

Double checking: it looks like you just received the SUMMER box. These sold out very quickly as the pretty bowls weren’t avail anymore. So they did a few “Intro Boxes” over the summer instead, with other items instead of the bowls.

I just got an email saying the code HELLO FALL would get 20% off the FALL box for new customers.

Just wanted to flag this so you could confirm that the bowls are avail again and this IS for the Summer Box as the first box?

Thanks!
Jane

Izzie

I really enjoyed reading your review! the items that I am using the most are the bowls with the lids, despite the fact that initially the item who sold me on the box was the PMD (I have to say I didn’t try it since I decided to gift it to my mother and bought a welcome box to Gift one to my sister).

Alice

Loved my summer box. I really love this scent of the diffuser. Looking forward to fall.
