BoxyCharm Premium September 2020 Review
Each box comes with a card detailing the items included. It looks like my assortment this month is box #5.
Now, on to the items!
Eloise The Queen Eyeshadow Palette - Retail Value $44.00
Ok, there are a lot of shades inside this palette. TWENTY to be exact! And the color story is really creative and does feel quite regal, but with a few surprise brights thrown in. This palette suffers from a pretty common sort of condition where the shimmers are fantastic but the mattes fall a little flat (no pun intended!). They weren't terrible, but they weren't exactly easy either. It took a little extra work to get that pigment payoff and there was some fallout when used with a brush. Luckily, because this palette is huge, there are a ton of great colors to choose from. The ones that really stand out in terms of color and formula are Jewels, Rani, Monarch, Queen, and Crown. The ones that were a little less impressive for me would be Sheba, Empress, Elizabeth, and Regal. The payoff was just too meek to feel cohesive with the rest of the palette. I will say that if you are looking for a palette with pinks and purples that is packed with over the top pigment, the Alamar Cosmetics Spanglish Pressed Pigment Palette I am reviewing in my BoxyCharm base box this smooth is absolutely incredible and a whole lot less $$$.

Ole Henriksen PHAT Glow Facial Mask, 1.7 oz - Retail Value $50.00
I was pretty pumped to try this mask because it has a really unique texture and smells absolutely great! It is super thick and sticky and literally coats your face. I applied the goo in a circular motion and massaged it until it turned white instead of pink. Because this mask was so thick, it felt like it was really warm on my face from the friction of rubbing it in. Inside this formula is a mix of clay, chia seed oil, hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, panthenol, and a ton of other goodies. I liked how this felt on my face but after waiting the recommended 15 minutes and wiping off with a wet cloth, my skin felt a little agitated and uncomfortable. This might be because of all the clay on my dry skin, but I didn't love the sensation. I will say that my face looked great regardless of how it felt, and after a nice moisturizer, all of the uncomfortable feels were gone. This is something I will use maybe once a week, but if you have oilier skin, you could totally partake more often!
Here is what the mask looks like when you've rubbed it in and it has turned white.
Emma Hardie Brilliance Facial Oil, 1 fl oz - Retail Value $53.00
This is a very essential oil heavy facial oil, so if you have sensitivities, be aware! It does indeed smell incredible, like lavender and geranium, but this level of EOs is worth a callout to my friends with reactive skin for sure. As far as benefits from use, the only real thing I noticed was a massive hydration boost. There are also plenty of antioxidants inside too, which protect your skin from free-radicals that can cause damage and premature aging. While this might not be one of my favorite facial oils of all time, I still found it was very versatile. I used this on my legs, cuticles, hair, and it left each area with much-needed hydration and a nice sheen.
Kitch Ice Roller - Retail Value $18.00
Anyone else out there a chronic migraine sufferer? First, my sympathies. It is truly the worst! If yours are anything like mine, a cooling rag or towel on specific points of muy face really, really helps. This ice roller arrived right in the middle of one and after taking up my normal position in bed with a million fans on, and complete darkness, I massaged my face with this roller, giving special emphasis to the muscles right above my inner brows. It felt incredible and was so relaxing. Now, you can totally use this if you aren't feeling bad too, don't get me wrong! The cooling effect is wonderful for skin prone to redness and irritation, sunburns, puffiness, the list goes on. I also love to use it on top of sheet masks! Simply stash it in the freezer (or fridge if the freezer is too cold!) and then massage your face. It is also great for your neck and décolletage too!
Marc Jacobs Beauty Enamored Hi-Shine Lip Lacquer Lipgloss in 'French Tickler', 5 mL - Retail Value $29.00 (currently on sale for $20.00)
Oh, hello Marc. Nice to see you! This is the cutest gloss. If I had to give it a name, it would be something girly and delicate like 'Ballet Slipper' or 'Kitten Paws'. So cute! It's a milky pink with a very faint blue shimmer inside. This is the sort of gloss you will love if you enjoy that wet lip look. I feel like this shade would look gorgeous on nearly anyone and it is such a great shade for a natural look. The texture is good too, glossy but not sticky, and substantial but not too thick. It also has a minty scent that is quite refreshing.
So pretty and easy.
Marc Jacobs Beauty Highliner Liquid Gel Eyeliner in 'Blacquer' - Retail Value $27.00
Ok, I really am over black eyeliner, but I guess if I have to have some show up right now, it better be a higher-end brand like Marc Jacobs. This liner takes a little extra time to completely dry, but if you are someone who wants absolute control over your application and the ability to go as thick or thin as you want, this is a winner! Longevity was fine. It stayed put for about 7 straight hours before showing any signs of wear, and what signs did show were very minor. Admittedly I have oilier eyelids, so you might have better luck than I did on this point. It also has a really chic and shiny finish that I found myself loving.
Verdict: My BoxyCharm Premium had a value of $221 which is pretty freaking great for a $35 box. While I mostly liked everything inside this month, some items were a little hit or miss. My faves? The Ole Henriksen PHAT facial, that darling Marc Jacobs gloss, and the ice roller. The Eloise palette was a creative color story, but some of the shades just needed more performance. The Emma Hardie oil was also nice, but not super memorable in a sea of facial oils (at least for me). I am so hesitant to love the Marc Jacobs eyeliner because I am about eyeliner'ed out, but this formula was really great! All in all, it felt like a lot of value for the cost of the box, which is a win for me.
