Bespoke Post "Panino" Review

I have been wanting to learn how to make my own bread, I even started fermenting my own yeast (it didn't quite work out) so when I saw this Bespoke Post box I figured I'd give it a try. This card gives us a recipe with just a few ingredients to make a loaf of no-knead bread.

Silicone Zone Silicone Bread Baker

This 100% silicone bread baker is dishwasher safe and can withstand oven temperatures up to 500 degrees. The inside is smooth and glossy while the outside has more of a matte texture. The cool thing about this baker is that you can mix everything up inside the bowl and then you fold over the sides and tuck that little tab into the slot on the opposite side to hold it closed forming a cloche that will form your dough into a loaf as it rises. If bread baking isn't your thing, you can also use this as a steamer in the oven by adding some oil and whatever you'd like to cook and placing it in a preheated oven. It looks like this is no longer available, but I found a similar style here.

Escali Ciro Digital Scale - Retail Value $24.95 (found here for $19.99 - they also have some fun colors for less!)

I actually have a small kitchen scale that I use often, but it is so temperamental and this one works so well! It comes with the battery, so I was able to turn it on and test it out right away. It has an on/off button, but it also has an auto-shutoff feature after five minutes. This can measure both dry and liquid ingredients and it has a nice blue backlight so you can really see the measurements. You can measure in milliliters, ounces, pounds, or grams. The top is nice and smooth with touchscreen buttons so that you can wipe it clean and there are no nooks for anything to get stuck inside of. It's also a nice size at 9 inches by 5.9 inches making it much more useful than my old scale and the slim profile means it will be easy to store as well.

Old Mountain Cast Iron Garlic Roaster - Retail Value $24.00

This last item is another one that I was super excited about. I love garlic and I could imagine how well some freshly roasted garlic would pair with a nice loaf of bread. This little roaster is heavy and well made and came with some instructions for cleaning and seasoning it, although it does come pre-seasoned. I did roast some garlic for our dinner and I added it to some butter to top steaks with and it was so delicious! I can't wait to make other roasted garlic goodies with it! Now let's see how my bread turned out!

The recipe they provided was very simple and I loved that I could measure out my flour using my scale and just dump it directly into the bread maker! It was just a bit quicker than measuring and leveling it off and it was one less dish I needed to clean.

I mixed up the rest of the ingredients, water, yeast, salt, and a little bit of honey and then I left it to rise for about an hour. It was a little tricky mixing it in the bowl since the sides kept turning in, but I kind of got the hang of it towards the end.

Once my dough had risen I took it out and then just pulled out the sides and folded them into the center a few times to form a ball. Then I added a little flour to it and placed it with the smooth side up inside my bowl and then folded it up and placed it in the oven.

You were supposed to let that bake for 30 minutes so the loaf shape would form and then open it up to let it finish cooking for another 20 minutes or so. I had something else in the oven at the same time and when I peeked in on that, I noticed my bowl had already come open. I tried to get it closed again, but I was having trouble and it was way too hot to keep messing with it so I just left it alone. My husband is the one who grabbed it out of the oven when it was done and when I came back the side was ripped and he told me it was like that when he removed it. I'm not sure how it actually tore, but I'm thinking maybe that was the reason that I couldn't get it closed again when it was in the oven.

When it was finished, I ended up with more of a bread boule, but it was crusty and delicious! I loved how easy it was to make and I can see adding some herbs and spices to the recipe (garlic and rosemary, anyone?) to really amp up the flavor next time. I did reach out to customer service because I don't think that there was anything I did to tear the bowl; the oven was at the correct temperature and I was careful when mixing and placing it in the oven. I'm hopeful they will replace it because I'd really love to try it as a steamer for other recipes, but without being able to get it closed, I'm not sure how it will turn out.

Verdict: I really loved everything in this month's Bespoke Post box. There are some really useful kitchen gadgets and while I don't have a price for the bread maker, the garlic roaster and scale have a total retail value of $48.95 which is equal to the cost of the box ($45 + $3.95 shipping). I am hopeful that they will replace the bread maker because it was such an easy way to make delicious bread and I'm sure that there are so many other things I can try in the oven, too. If not, at least I know I can make a delicious boule anytime I want!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes! This box is still in stock.

Value Breakdown: This box costs $45 + $3.95 shipping, which means that each of the 3 items costs approximately $16.32.

the official version of that bread maker bowl is by Lekue. Their brown colored version sells for ~ $27 on Amazon. (if your is unlabeled, perhaps it’s an imitation.)

If it is a true Lekue, then I’m astonished it ripped. Their products are very high quality, in addition to being innovative and practical. I’ve used many of them and never had a problem – they seem exceptionally sturdy. And the silicone they use never smells. Lekue was (to my knowledge) the first to come out with a silicone popcorn popper for use in a microwave- it’s still the best! They also have excellent silicone molds for making waffles in the oven. Buy a couple sets and you can make enough waffles for the family all at the same time.

Hi Beth, mine is not labeled at all other than the little Silicone Zone paper that came with it! I’ll have to look into the brand you mentioned! Especially the waffle makers! That sounds great! Thank you for sharing! 🙂

I have only had one dealing with their customer service, but found it quite satisfactory. I chose a piece of artwork for my box a few years ago, and when it arrived, I found it had been framed upside down and the frame was not one where you could easily slide the art out to reposition. I contacted CS, who got back to me quickly – they did ask for a picture of the defect, which is fair, and offered to either replace the item or choose a new box – they did not request that I return the defective item.

Hi Jenny, I agree! I have always experienced great customer service. I have heard back from them further and they are sending a new bowl out for me! 🙂

Brandi D.

Will do! ☺️ They have already gotten back to me asking for a photo of the tear, so we’ll see how they reply!

I’m glad you reviewed this one. It’s a box I was eyeing, but I wondered how durable that baker would be.

It seemed durable before I used it. 😬 Hoping it’s just a defective one because otherwise, it’s really cool!

This is the box I chose this month. I haven’t tried anything yet so this review is very, very helpful. I already have a kitchen scale that I love. I wasn’t sure if I was going to keep this one or put it up for swap but seeing your pictures I will keep it. My current one is not backlit.

That stinks that your bread bowl broke upon first use. 25 years or so ago I baked every kind of bread imaginable so I had every kind of flour, pan, basic and fancy lames, etc. I swear it is not like riding a bike because I’m a bit intimidated. I have bread flour and yeast so I don’t know what my problem is. Your bread looks beautiful. Do you make bread often? I can’t wait to try the garlic roaster but I need to get a whole garlic bulb.

This is my favorite box so far. It was a great value. They sell face masks made by Beau Ties. They have a thin metal strip along the nose to make the mask snug along the nose. I bought one last month and another this month. I recommend them.

I do not bake bread (other than sweet breads like banana or zucchini bread!) so if I can do it, I’m sure yours will be great once you get back into it! 🙂

Flora

Try baking the bread in a cast iron Dutch oven, we have a Einkorn flour recipe that works really well.

Thanks, Flora! I don’t have a Dutch oven but I feel like every recipe I’ve seen lately calls for one, so I may have to invest! 🙂

I know, I was in the same boat, I never had one until this year and the awesome thing is, I bought my Staub from Bespoke Post for half price.
