The Detox Box August 2020 Review

Indie Lee Coconut Citrus Scrub, 8 oz – Retail Value $40.00

Although this scrub has lemongrass in it (which I dislike and associate with kitchen cleaning products) I decided to give it a try because I really like Indie Lee. Luckily, this scrub also has a creamy coconut and vanilla scent that mellows out that sharp lemongrass into something I could appreciate a lot more! Texture-wise, this feels like any sort of sugar scrub. The granules are smaller and less abrasive than some, meaning they are perfect for legs and arms. This scrub does leave behind an oily finish which is great for massaging into your skin, but something to consider when exiting your bath or shower safely.

Rahua Classic Shampoo, 22 mL – Estimated Value $2.72 (Buy a full-size 275 mL for $34.00)

Rahua Classic Conditioner, 22 mL – Estimated Value $2.88 (Buy a full-size 275 mL for $36.00)

I have tried this shampoo before and I love it for the gentle cleansing it does to my roots and the incredible scent that reminds me of incense. I do wish it was a little more aggressive than it is, but that is mainly because I only shampoo every few days. For a daily shampoo, this is a dream. The conditioner I love even more! It is buttery smooth and adds so much shine and frizz control to my hair. And did I mention the scent?!

Love Sun Body SPF 30 Lightly Scented Sunscreen, 0.84 oz – Estimated Value $4.47 (Buy a full-size 6.76 oz for $36.00)

This was another familiar item, but I am totally cool seeing this pop up again! This is 100% a body-only sort of sunscreen, at least for me. It does have a wee bit of that chalky finish until fully rubbed in and it feels too heavy on my face. This particular formula has a really light and delightful floral scent that I really liked.

Love Sun Body SPF 50 Fragrance-Free Sunscreen, 3.38 oz – Retail Value $24.00

This is a fragrance-free and higher SPF version of the previous sunscreen. I find this little bottle so cute! It functions about the same as the one before and I totally plan on stashing this in my purse for those days out in the sun that I am indulging in so often this time of year.

Captain Blankenship Golden Waves Sea Salt Shimmer Spray, 4 oz. – Retail Value $28.00

I love salt sprays and I love Captain Blankenship, but I am not crazy about this product. For all of its golden shimmer, it really doesn’t show up in any noticeable way in my hair at all. For what it lacks in shimmer though, it makes up for in a great scent (my nose catches a lot of geranium) and great beachy texture with just a few spritzes and scrunches.

Osea Sea Minerals Mist, 3.4 fl oz – Retail Value $38.00

I love Osea and I love a big bottle of face mist, so this final item was a win in my book. This one has my beloved algae inside along with sea salt which helps to balance pH. It is also full of aloe which makes it great for adding moisture to sun-kissed skin. I always worried that salt would just dry my already dry face out even more, and this can happen, but when used sparingly salty products can offer some real benefits like adding minerals back to skin, adding absorbable electrolytes, and helping with inflammation.

Verdict: This month’s Detox Box was basically a summer sun survival kit and I am here for it. Sure, I am not at the beach (miss you, boo) but I am spending a lot of time outside soaking up the sun. This box had two sunscreens inside, a sea-inspired face mist, a beachy wave spray, a coconut and citrus scrub, and a marvelous mini shampoo and conditioner set. I felt like the beach came to me instead this year. This box also packed a $140.07 value which feels more than fair for the cost of the box and the products inside.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

  1. Incense scented shampoo?! 😮😍

  2. Thanks for the review! Always makes me more excited to get my box. Don’t really want to fall in love that sunscreen – supposed to use 1 ounce per application- making it very expensive!
