Our IPSY Glam Bag Plus August 2020 Review

Here is our info card complete with all of our items.

This is the first month of the new drawstring-style bags for the Plus level subscription.

It was also the first month of choice! Subscribers can pick THREE items per month with IPSY selecting the remaining two.

Now, on to the items!

Huda Beauty Demi Matte Cream Liquid Lipstick in ‘Feminist’, 3.6 mL – Retail Value $20.00

Huda makes some of my favorite lippies and some really great eyeshadows, too. I was thrilled that this was her demi matte formula. It gives an almost matte look with none of the dryness that I often experience with a true matte finish. The shade is also really gorgeous! It is a nude pink with enough pigment to make me look effortless instead of washed out. And they staying power? Stellar.

Overall, a really great nude shade!

Complex Culture Plush Powder Brush – Retail Value $35.00

This was my choice item!

I have been lowkey adding to my Complex Culture collection every few months when one arrives in an IPSY delivery. I really, really like these brushes! They have such dense and fluffy heads and soft bristles that grab lots of powder in a really good way. This is a pretty massive one, but it is perfect for translucent and finishing powders. I love the matte grey handles too because they look very chic.

Callyssee Better Bean Clean Face Coffee Scrub, 4 fl oz – Retail Value $21.95

This was my choice item!

Normally this wouldn’t be something I’d select, but my mom recently said she wanted a coffee scrub. This one looked a lot more gentle than so many others out there so I snagged it for her. It actually doesn’t even really smell strongly of coffee and has more of a clean soft scent. The coffee grounds are just the right amount, allowing you to scrub your face without scratching it. She is really happy with it!

Illamasqua Loaded Lip Polish in ‘Glaze’, 5 mL – Retail Value $25.00

This was my choice item!

I needed a clear gloss for my makeup kit and though this one could be shinier, it still works nice over lipsticks and solo, just giving lips a glazed finish. It doesn’t have a scent either, meaning it will be a great addition to my client kit where I can use disposable applicators to apply it for a little gloss.

EYEKO Black Magic Mascara – Retail Value $26.00

Normally I wouldn’t be excited about black mascara, but this was another kit addition! The squeezable style of the tube makes it perfect for dispensing onto my metal palette and applying with a disposable spoolie without risking cross contaminations between clients. It works well, coating each lash in a nice black finish, with no real clumps to worry about. It also adds a natural (but still slightly dramatic) amount of length and volume.

Verdict: This month, my IPSY Glam Bag Plus has a value of $127.95 which is pretty darn good for a $25 box. Sure, nothing this month was bold or in my face at all, but everything was a solid and high quality basic. The whole assortment actually felt very edited and clean. My favorite items are the lipstick and that big powder brush! My mom is very happy with her scrub too, and the gloss and mascara will have a home in my client kit.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? You’ll likely start with August as your first month. As of publication, there was no IPSY waitlist!

Value Breakdown: This box costs $25 meaning each of the products inside has the following cost:

  • Huda Beauty Lipstick $3.91
  • Complex Culture Brush $6.84
  • Callyssee Scrub $4.29
  • Illamasqua Gloss $4.88
  • EYEKO Mascara $5.08

Alternatively, each item has an average cost of $5.00.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

I have been trying to figure out where to write a review and this is the only public forum I could find. I ordered a Glam Bag Plus and was excited for it to come in I waited several weeks and decided I could not afford to continue with later months. I had assumed cancelling the membership did not mean no longer receiving the first bag that should have already been on the way but apparently it did. I paid for the first month of the Glam Bag Plus as soon as I purchased it and it is non refundable. I was still looking forward to the receiving the bag but apparently will not be receiving it and wasted my money. I’m very disappointed.

I would like to follow up on my last comment because I received a very nice response from Kim B. with Ipsy Care to an email I sent and will be receiving the Glam Bag Plus that I have payed for. Would recommend Ipsy for future customers.

it’s Aug 30th. My GBP box has been sitting in DHL since Aug 13th. No movement to Chicago from Texas.

I received someone else’s GBP instead of my pop-up order.

It had a bag that was different to the pink-with-glitter logo from this month’s drawstring bag, & came with a “welcome” insert card. I wonder if all new subscribers will receive this “welcome” bag, or if Ipsy will only send it on months when they run out of stock of the monthly bag.

It had:
– Murad cleanser (Sis was happy)
– Nomad Cosmetics Berlin palette (already own it)
– MotD eye brush set
– Dr Brandt primer
– Thrive mascara

Sorry you didn’t receive the pop-up order. If you email IpsyCare they should either send you your order or issue a refund. I have always had good experiences with their customer service. I hope you can get what you ordered.

Oh, I definitely immediately emailed them right away (with attached photo), lol. The weird thing is that apparently it had to go through 3 people to get an answer? I received this email at 3am from a 2nd CS agent: “I’ve passed your questions on to our team, and I’ll reach out to you with an answer as soon as I hear back.”

??? What do you need to ask the “team”? Either you have it in stock to send me the order, or you don’t, & you refund my money!

I’ve seen a couple people on Reddit say they were told that the Sweet Chef serum is OOS, so I don’t have much hope.

its been 10 days sitting with DHL and NO movement whatsoever. i’ve already skipped my reg and GBP for next month. at this rate, i have little hope of it showing up this month, let alone complete as 3 of my bags have been pilfered and my last bag never arrived at all (lost by USPS).

i also dont like the fact that you only have til the end of the month to skip, but you can’t see your pick choices until the 2nd or 3rd of the following month… so if you don’t like the options, its too late to skip.

I have had lots of problems with DHL over the past couple of years. Also lately have had alot of delays and lost items with USPS. I hate to imagine what will happen if they try to make us do mail-in voting for the presidential election! Scary! I certainly dont trust the USPS with my vote

We’ve been vote by mail in my county for several years. We have a drive through in a local church parking lot where you can hand it in. I’ve never had a problem.

Here in Pennsylvania, when you request an absentee ballot you can track the request online (once it’s processed) and follow up to see if your ballot has been accepted. I would advise anyone who is planning to vote by mail to request their ballot now and to mail it back as soon as possible.
I also want to encourage everyone to vote in every election for which you are eligible.
I guess I have been lucky in regards to packages not getting lost via USPS. I have had massive delays with DHL and FedEx, but USPS has been working well for me. I hope everyone gets their boxes, with all items, in a timely manner.

Rachael Rae

We have ballot boxes set up here so you just drop them off across the street from the courthouse. No need to let the mail carrier lose them.

Ipsy choose the same Huda lippie shade for me. I love it! ❤️❤️❤️ They also choose the 111skin cyro booster. Excited to try it. I choose the four piece brush set by laruce, the watermelon setting powder by ciate London, and the eyeliner in gilded bronze by Laura Geller. The formula is nice and creamy and seems to have stay power but to me it just looks brown not bronzey. I added the Luna night oil which I am loving, some coffee scrub, and those cute scrunchies which I am also loving.
I’m really enjoying picking three things. They kinda still seem like fillers but at least the are my choice of fillers.
I love that we have add-ons and flash sales a lot. I threw out all my old mail polish and I’m currently rebuilding at a very low cost with higher end nail polish thanks to ipsy 😉

I’m still waiting for my bag. Every time I click on the tracking link I get the “hey, we are DHL and we suck. Let’s blame covid” message. Hopefully I receive it this month. Been having all kinds of issues when vendors choose DHL.

I finally received my bag on 8/21/202, and I never received two out of my 3 choice items, which includes the Murad eye cream and the Laura Geller Eyeliner.

Supposedly they will ship them within 15 business days, and it will take another 10-15 business days for them to reach me. I’ll be lucky to receive by the end of September.

This is the third month in a row that ipsy has not sent all of the products. The last two times they were out, and gave me a credit of $5. Sad!

Boxycharm customer service isn’t as quick and responsive, but they don’t make as many mistakes.

I think it’s time I cancel ipsy, and save myself the frustration.

Just got my bag today, and was missing the choice item I was most jazzed about; GOLDFADEN MD Doctor’s Scrub Ruby Crystal Microderm Exfoliator. Just contacted IPSY support, but am expecting a lame “Sorry, we’re out of stock. Here’s $5.” Grrrr.

DHL is the worst!

Now I am wishing I would have grabbed one of those Huda lipsticks as an add-on. 🙁

Me too!!!

I’m honestly ecstatic that they let us choose now. I didn’t get any “WOW” options, but everything is something I can actually use and that makes me very happy.

I got the coffee scrub too but for a different use…I love the coffee scrubs that come in the tan envelopes (and also the minetan) but they’re so messy. I mix them with some of this coffee face scrub & use it as a body wash/scrub. It’s MUCH less messy this way.

My plus bag is fantastic love everything. I also have the coffee bean face scrub haven’t tried yet have a few opened the mascara, my favorite Bailey palette , pigment is great love the shades. One I will be using often.

Hi All! Quick question…if I subscribed to Ipsy Plus today, would I receive the September bag? And if so, would I be charged today or on the 1st?

I would have loved to see the items that you didn’t choose when you made your selections. Maybe next time?

Megan K.

Hey Randie! We have some shots of those here:

Though it sounds like choice items might change depending on availability in the future during the choice window. I will try to keep a pulse on that and give more info!

I received a bonus Huda Beauty set with my order. Not sure if I was supposed to get it (I’ve emailed Ipsy care offering to send it back) but even without the extra, I am really liking the 3 choice items and my add-ons. I hope everyone loves their GBP.

Wonder if you got mine lol I had everything in my bag except for the Huda lippie 😬 I contacted customer service and just got it in the mail the other day though!

I actually received 2 Huda items- a lippie and an eyeshadow palette and Ipsy said that they didn’t want them back, so score for me on that one. Sorry you didn’t receive your lipstick with your box, but I am glad Ipsy care made it right. I have always had great customer service from them. Looking forward to the selection for Sept.

Megan K.

Super jealous! I love Huda Beauty so much. I wish it popped up more for me in boxes, but I usually miss those items.

I think that the new choice program is a great experience and resulted in a great August GBP. I especially love the Complex Culture Powder brush and the Bailey Sarian eyeshadow palette. I would have been happier with the Huda lippie if it came in a better color for me, but agree with Megan that this month’s box Is very edited and clean.

Megan K.

I am really happy that so many readers seem to be loving Plus this month. Hopefully, this continues to get even better and better. What did you think of the Bailey Sarian palette??

Glam bag plus can’t be shipped to Canada 🙁 only the regular glam bag. So for the Canadian readers, don’t get excited when you read the ships to part, it’s not correct.

Megan K.

Eep, thanks Dominique! I will change the copy.

I got a full size 111skin item ($135 are you kidding me!!) and bonus extra wander beauty brow gel…I loved everything I received!

Megan K.

Those two items alone sound like a great haul! 🙌

I am super happy with my Ipsy Plus this month and I am very, very happy with all of my products, even the Huda lip color which I initially thought I would have to pass on. The actual shade is very different than the Ipsy pic of the color and the Huda description. Sounds like I need to try that facial cleanser.

Megan K.

I really didn’t want to like the cleanser because I don’t love coffee products, but mom was sold on it and she was right. I liked it a lot more than I thought – the one time I got to try it before she snagged it!

The changes to Plus made for my best experience with Ipsy to date. I got different choices than this review (for example Eyeko wasn’t an option), but was super happy. I adore the pick 3. I’m thinking of canceling the regular glam bag and budgeting that amount for an add-on or two.

I am really enjoying the three items I picked and the serum that Ipsy picked for me. The Huda lippie was gifted. I think that Ipsy worked out a great system with plenty of choice, and you can’t beat five full size items for $25 plus tax.

From reading comments in a previous post, it seems that your choices change if you don’t pick when you first look at them. This likely reflects changes in inventory as others pick their choices. So if you log in and don’t like what you see, leave it alone and come back to it in a few hours.

Megan K.

INTERESTING. Hmm…. I will have to play with this a little next time! If I can muster the patience to actually wait 😅

The second part of your comment is quite interesting. I did not realize the choices could change as time elapses. Do you happen to know if you have to make all three choices at the same time? For instance, if you like what you see in 2 categories, can you pick in those categories and then come back later to choose the third?

You have to choose all three categories, or none. I get ultimate as well so I waited for those spoilers before I chose. Yes, there were some changes in the choices, but the things I wanted all stayed. I was torn between the brush and the setting powder, I got the powder in my ultimate. I was nervous the palette would sell out before I chose, but it all worked out for me.

Hi Victoria – I don’t know! That would make for an interesting experiment but a potentially unhappy one if the answer is no. I hope I don’t ever need to try it out… 🙁

I was bummed on my Huda shade. So not for me. My bff will love it though.

And that is one of my favorite cleansers! I was so excited to be able to pick it. The scent energizes me a bit and it cleans my face just right.

Megan K.

My mom loves it too. I think I would have if I had gotten to keep it after using it once! Maybe I will try to add it on next time 😂
