FabFitFun Fall 2020 Review

FabFitFun sends out a mini mag in each box. It details the items included and also provides background on some of the featured makers and designers. You'll also find exclusive coupons for the brands featured in the box.

Let's see what is inside! (If you aren't familiar, FabFitFun lets subscribers pick several of their items each season - I'll show you what I picked for each selection.)

First choice item:

Choice 1 – All members get the chance to customize these options in their box.

  • Botkier New York Bond Tote $128.00
  • Botkier New York Trigger Backpack $100.00
  • FOXYBAE 25mm Black Curling Wand with Rose Gold Colored Barrel $99.00
  • Stila Stay All Day® Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner + HUGETM Extreme Lash Mascara $45.00
  • Uncommon James Set of 2 Copper Canisters $49.00
  • SACHAJUAN Styling Cream & Finish Cream $65.00
  • Mia Mélange Cotton Basket $60.00

My Pick:

Botkier New York Bond Tote - Retail Value $128.00

Height 11.5 in (29 cm)
Length 12 in (30 cm)
Depth 6.5 in (17 cm)
Handle Drop 9 in (23 cm)

I am a sucker for a tote and this one looks downright classic. Admittedly, I would have preferred leather, but I actually already own a leather tote and I can't argue with how easy this one is to spot clean if need be. Inside there is a large zipper pocket as well as two pouches for your tech or lipsticks. The straps are plenty long so I can toss them over my shoulder and go.

Second choice item:

Choice 2 – All members get the chance to customize these options in their box.

  • Beyond Yoga Hidden Pocket Infinity Scarf $59.95
  • Glossmetics Hair Removal Device $59.95
  • Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare Alpha Beta® Pore Perfecting & Refining Serum $65.00
  • SOIA & KYO Woven Scarfigan with Fringe $85.00
  • Volition Beauty Celery Green Cream $55.00
  • Erno Laszlo Pore Cleansing Clay Mask $48.00

My Pick:

Volition Beauty Celery Green Cream, 1.7 fl oz - Retail Value $55.00

This was an easy pick for the skincare hoarder inside my brain. I have always found Volition formulas to be nice and soothing, and free of lots of things that cause me redness or irritation. This gel-cream formula is so soothing! It is packed with skin goodies like celery seed, green tea extract, and raspberry fruit extracts that are all super high in antioxidants. You will also find lactic acid (a gentle exfoliant), cucumber, and glycerine inside. This feels a little heavier than I expected, but I don't mind. It is also nicely cooling, making it very appropriate for the summer sun. It has a light and clean scent and is free of alcohol and essential oils.

Third choice item:

Choice 3 – All members get the chance to customize these options in their box.

  • JENNY BIRD Austin Cuff $135.00
  • JENNY BIRD Leana Pendant $115.00
  • Vitamasques Multivitamin Mask Set $40.00
  • Nectar Sunglasses Blue Light Blocking Glasses in Brown Tortoise $45.00
  • Beauty Bakerie Proof is in the Puddin’ Palette $38.00

My Pick:

JENNY BIRD Austin Cuff - Listed Value $135.00

Chains: 5 inches long. Whole piece: 8.5 inches long.

I wear a lot of mixed metals and chains and I thought this might be a fun addition to my collection. This piece is pretty hefty! While that retail value feels a little high, I will say that it feels very well made. If I could change one thing, it would be just a touch of additional length. My wrists are about 6.5 inches and it fit fine enough, but I wish the chains had covered more of my wrist with less extender.

Fourth choice item:

Only Annual Members get to customize these options in their box. Otherwise, FabFitFun will choose the best option for you.

  • Masontops® Glass Water Bottle with Neoprene in Turquoise $35.00
  • Anastasia Beverly Hills Clear Brow Gel $22.00
  • SKIN&CO Roma Truffle Therapy Whipped Cleansing Cream $28.00
  • Feel Beauty Renewed Pumpkin Walnut Facial Cleanser $28.00
  • frank body Original Coffee Scrub $16.95

(Annual subscribers get to pick their item. Seasonal subscribers will be surprised.)

My Pick:

Masontops® Glass Water Bottle with Neoprene in Turquoise - Listed Value $35.00 (Buy a pair here for $39.95)

If you were to visit my office, you would see my larger desk is just a laptop surrounded by a collection of skin serums and water bottles. Seriously, half of my life is drinking water and rubbing goo onto my face. I am fine with it! This modified mason jar was an easy choice to add to my water bottle shrine. I liked the cheerful teal color and the fact that the main body of the bottle is glass. The lid makes a very satisfying sound when you open it too, and I found it to be utterly leak-proof. I love that there is a fabric sleeve to collect any outside sweat from my bev of choice, especially since everything is filled with ice this time of year. The listed value seemed a little high since you can snag two of these for just a little more, which is something I will probably find myself doing when my mom or Will end up swiping this one.

Fifth choice item:

Only Annual Members get to customize these options in their box. Otherwise, FabFitFun will choose the best option for you.

  • HIP Cutlery Set $14.99
  • NCLA So Rich Cuticle Oil in Horchata $18.00
  • Likwid RxTM Stress Reliever 100% Natural Ayurvedic Hair Oil $75.00
  • 8 Other Reasons Runway Clip Trio $32.00
  • Harper + Ari Exfoliating Sugar Cubes in Juice Cleanse $16.00

(Annual subscribers get to pick their item. Seasonal subscribers will be surprised.)

My Pick:

8 Other Reasons Runway Clip Trio - Retail Value $32.00

This was a tough choice for me because normally I would be all over those portable utensils. Now that school is done though, I really only eat lunch at home. I decided that the clips were super cute, and I loved the colors enough to pick them! Even though the only time I really do my hair right now is for Zoom meetings, I feel like they are an easy way to add a little style to my look and they are certainly more polished than my massive default scrunchie.

Now that we've gone through all the choice options, all subscribers will get 3 additional items that FabFitFun picks for them.

FabFitFun will surprise you with three items from this category.

  • Voesh® New York Pedicure in a Box Duo - Pumpkin Spice $20.00
  • The Laundress New York Crease Release $16.00
  • Spongellé Boxed Flower in Sweet Cedarwood $16.00

I received:

Spongellé Boxed Flower in Sweet 'Cedarwood' - Retail Value $16.00

Spongellé flowers are my go-to for trips. They save me from having to haul a wet bar soap or a big leaky bottle of shower gel. As luck has it, I have a nice week-long trip to Tennessee planned in the next few weeks, so in my bag this goes! This might be my fave scent yet from this brand! It is woody and sweet, and even a little sexy.

  • NatureLab Tokyo Perfect Repair Treatment Masque $16.00
  • Stone Candles Room Spray in Pumpkin Spice $36.00
  • Stone Candles Room Spray in Santal $36.00
  • Hythe Tranquility Sleep Mist $22.00

I received:

Stone Candles Room Spray in 'Santal Noir', 5 fl oz - Retail Value $36.00 (currently sold out)

I really had my fingers crossed I would avoid the pumpkin spice room spray because I can't stand pumpkin spice anything. Luck was on my side as I saw inside my box was the sandalwood version of the same spray. Yum! This scent is woody and musky, and totally something I would have in my house. I was a little disappointed because it isn't that strong of a scent and when I spray a room spray I want to really notice. This is more of a hint of scent but I love it enough to use it either way.

  • Beauty Papier Golden Superfood Shower Gel $30.00
  • ZiGi & MARAiS Pouch with Stripe $30.00
  • The Beauty Crop® Glow Milk in Blind Date $19.50

ZiGi & MARAiS Pouch with Stripe - Retail Value $30.00

Our final item is a cute little pouch in the shape of sunglasses. Will is always losing his sunglasses case and while he would never reach for this one, I ended up giving my hard case to him to use this instead. The little rose gold stripe is very cute and I am always down for a tassel.

Verdict: This box has a value of $214-$544+ depending on which items you receive. My box totals around $467. I was trying to think of an accurate way to frame this value, when I thought about a time recently in Sephora when I ALMOST bought that Volition Beauty Celery Green Cream. That cream is $55 and this box is $49.99 so it more than covers the box value-wise. Getting a cream that was on my to-buy list for less than its cost along with all these other items? That feels like a lot of value to me! Of course, this can vary heavily on your own shopping preferences and what you selected to go inside your box. But for me the value here is easy to see and even the things I might not end up keeping will make really great gifts which are going to be important to me in the next few months with family birthdays and the holidays closer than I can even fathom. I am very pleased with my FFF box this quarter.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? As of publication, yes! (You'll be able to make your product selections after you sign up.)

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

I am in love with my FFF annual subscription and use all the extra value from being a member as often as I can. I have several subscription boxes (10 to be exact, 5 are monthly beauty boxes) I am a member of and if I was only able to pick one, it would be FFF 100% of the time.

I set reminders for customization, add-on sales and edit sales. I always check their prices to other online pricing to ensure I am getting the lowest price possible (just have to watch for new vs used as I have learned the hard way). But I am an a lover of makeup, skincare, comfy blankets, household items, exercise equipment and pampering me products. In the 3 years I have been an annual member I have fallen in love with products that I was not even aware existed or that would enjoy as much as I do. If I do purchase items on a vendor’s website from FFF boxes, I always check first to see if they have a discount code listed in their ‘exclusive offers’ section to see if there is a discount code to use.

I am super sad to hear that others had a bad experience and hope it gets better for everyone in the future, because I want others to feel the happiness I feel ever season a new box is shipped.

Seriously, these boxes have gotten out of hand. Quality has gone down, suggested retail price is a joke; most of these items are manufactured for the boxes and would never been seen in a retail environment — similar to how outlets at one time actually sold genuine products manufacturing overstocks and now are just filled with items made specifically for outlets at a lower cost and quality.

“Vegan” totes are what was called vinyl or PVC, the jewelry can be found at a dollar store, the “undiscovered” makeups brands are questionable at best.

Subscribers should add up how much money they’ve spent over the years, how much low quality junk they’ve filled their homes with and save their money to buy high quality items with value. Think people, think. Your homes are filled. You don’t need to spend this much money to make someone else rich.

Cancel my subscription. This box looked like a tag sale or things I could only regift and wouldn’t even do that . Never again

After years of looking, I finally subscribed to FFF for this box. I haven’t even received it yet, but just seeing what’s in my box, I canceled.

Disappointed in what I received completely. Nothing in it “wows” me, and I feel like my “high value” items are things I never would have bought, or would need.

Disappointment.

Extremely impressed with FFF. I have had many different types of subscriptions in the past, mostly less expensive. I decided to finally splurge on an annual membership (with a mystery bundle that I was impressed with. Then again, I got those items for FREE, so I wasn’t picky). I’ve been so, so excited to receive my box. Today it came, and I was so disappointed, infuriated even, that only one of my selections were sent to me. After chatting with a representative via chat on their site, they informed me they would be sending my missing selections IN ADDITION to what I had in my box! So impressed that they didn’t offer a measly refund or try to send me more items I didn’t need/want. Blown away!

Reply ButtonReply

Heather

Wow! I’m an annual subscriber and I was told I wasn’t eligible for the mystery bundle because that would be like having a double discount. I’m glad it worked out for you and you got a better deal.

Reply ButtonReply

Cristy

This is my second box and I’m a little disappointed in the selection of the items. I absolutely hate pumpkin or seasonal smells/items and this box felt loaded with them. FFF did well with selections the first go round but missed the mark this time. I’m not sure if I will continue this subscription and that’s a bummer since I was considering a box opening on YT and recommending their boxes to tons of girlfriends and my sisters as a must have. If FFF can’t get this right there days will be numbered. The times we’re living in and the cost of the box has to make sense. Advice – improve or reduce the cost.

Mellissa

I have been am annual subscriber for 6 used and I haven’t recieved my box yet. It’s not a problem as I didn’t need anything for gifts but I wanted to let others know. I usually get mine in the first round of shipping but there is no tracking yet. I didn’t get any add ons.

Reply ButtonReply

Claire

Extremely disappointed in this box. All the FFF surprise selections were so cheap that I didn’t really want any of the options. I picked the basket thinking it would be able to hold blankets…nope! It could barely hold 3 rolls of toilet paper for size reference (thought I would get creative with my use for it by holding extra TP in our powder room. Nope, can’t do that either.) Overall, I hope FFF listens to all the disappointing reviews and puts together a better box next season.

Reply ButtonReply

Amanda

Same! I didn’t want any of those items. I will give one more chance next season…if it is not good I will cancel.

Reply ButtonReply

Got my first box ever on Saturday. Items definitely seem cheaply made, and the retail value way over inflated. However I will use most of the items so still worth the price I paid (used a coupon since it was my first order).
I didn’t buy anything from the add-on sale. Nothing seemed like that great of a deal, and I hated the frantic game-playing of checking to see if people had dumped things from their cart.
I’ll wait to see what the Winter spoilers are, if nothing excites me I’ll likely cancel. Thankfully I didn’t sign up for an annual!

Beige

does anyone know what that lady on page 2 is wearing? I love that jacket/cardigan! is that from other brands or FFF too?

Reply ButtonReply

Stacy

Just got my box yesterday. So very disappointed in the quality of most of the items…
1.the canisters- The bottoms bow out and won’t sit flat on the counter top! The lid is very difficult to open. I would feel bad even regifting these to someone I care about.
2. Botkier bag- looks and feels rather cheaply made
3. The 3 surprise items… FFF chose wrinkle release, pillow mist, and… milk? Not interested

About the only thing I did like are the items I got from the fall edit sale. Maybe I’ll learn my lesson one day about ordering these subscription boxes 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

Heather

I got the same surprise items as you and I was not thrilled either. I always seem to get the lowest value items or the items I don’t want. Oh well. Better luck next time I hope?

Reply ButtonReply

Nadia

I got my 1st box today Fall 2020- hated it!!!!!canceled

Reply ButtonReply

Kay

I wonder if anyone will get the ZiGi & MARAiS Pouch? I’ve noticed In all other reviews I’ve read/watched no one else had the pouch.

On my FFF box reveal it says all 3 of the surprise items are valued at $23. I didn’t see any spoilers valued at this price

Reply ButtonReply

Sav

Mine shows the same thing for the surprise items. Maybe it’s just a default?

Reply ButtonReply

Brittany

Ugh – second box in a row my 3 fabfitfun’s choice items were the cheapest options/products I didn’t want.

Reply ButtonReply

Random question… does anyone know what the glossmetics device actually is? I’ve been poking around online & can’t seem to find out. It looks like an epilator, which in my experience are NOT painless.

Reply ButtonReply

Stella

I chose it and it seems to be a trimming device. It also seems to be a ripoff of the Finishing Touch device (didn’t know about this when I chose it)… It does work but it doesn’t leave your skin baby smooth, and it takes a bit of work.

I’ve been a FFF customer since 2014. This is the worst box I’ve ever received! I missed out on customization this quarter and ended up with all the leftover crap! There is not one thing in my box I would have purchased in store! It seems it is getting harder to do customization, either because the dates change, or items are sold out! Very disappointing!

Reply ButtonReply

Eileen

I received my box today and the three items FFF picked for me are the shower gel, Hythe spray, and Laundress spray. Not my preferred choices, I was hoping for the Spongelle, the room spray in santal, I’m relieved I didn’t get the hair conditioner (I don’t use silicones) or the glow milk (I don’t use highlighters).

Reply ButtonReply

Lee

I got the glow milk, wrinkle spray and Hythe. The glow milk was the one thing I REALLY didn’t want 🙁

Reply ButtonReply

Katie

I got the same 3 things.

G

Similarly, three items FFF picked for me are the Hythe spray, Laundress spray, and the glow milk (Like you, I don’t use highlighters but my luck). I really wanted the m room spray in santal too.

Reply ButtonReply

Christina

Got the same and am only excited about the launderers product

Sarah

I was right about the items FFF chooses. I got the least expensive items of all three all the ones that I didn’t want of course I don’t need any more hair treatment masks so that’s going go in the garbage I have no desire for the beauty crop glow milk in a blind date drops so not impressed it seems like every time even when I was part of them for two years before I took a year’s break I would always get the items that were the least expensive or the worst colours of the bunch I don’t know what it is about it I guess I have the worst luck ever.
Send the mystery bundle that they gave me for E upping my subscription is all stuff I’m not gonna use I see people have jewellery household items nope I once again get stuff that I will not use for my hair and face

I cancelled my subscription with FFF after the Fall 2019 box after many, many years of enjoyment. It really went down hill BUT the new shipping schedule and Annual vs. Quarterly pick schedule seems fair and easy for them and us. So I re-subbed, I also think the quality of the items is really good. It was so hard to pick from Group 1 this time. I did like it when we picked 5 and 3 qwerty known. I am not happy with the choices that FFF makes for us.They can not make everyone happy and it is $50. They go above and beyond for $50. Some of my most favorite things have come from FFF.

Reply ButtonReply

Kaylie

Pretty disappointed in this box. Does anyone else feel like they are getting smaller and smaller? I pay for the customization and all that and i just feel like the box is so small and i got like 5 items. I always loved getting them. I think its time to move on. :/ the box is just so small!!!!

Reply ButtonReply

Gina

I agree. I just opened my box and it is just … bad. The box has been used so many time (I know they’re recycling…) but there was no tissue paper or padding so my items got bumped and battered. To top it off there was a hair attached to the flyer.
I feel like it’s time to pause this for a while. I haven’t been thrilled with them for a boxes but it seems to happen when you subscribe to box company for more than 2 years.

Reply ButtonReply

Gracie

I just cancelled two subscriptions because I think the quality of these boxes has really gone down. The FFF choices are always the cheapest ones and even the picks aren’t worth what they say. I enjoyed getting the boxes but I’ll save the $100+/quarter!

Reply ButtonReply

Kristy

Wow.. I’ve always gotten 8 items in a huge box and I have loved my boxes so far. I did the annual subscription with a coupon and got like 20% off of that so for me I’m getting more items for less money and I couldn’t go out and purchase those items for that much. Add to that I get to pick 5 of them so I get more of what I want and less “mystery” items plus if I see an additional item I like I can add it for a small price.. win, win in my book.

Reply ButtonReply

Cynthia

No not at all. I always get 8 items. Not sure why you are only getting 5. I think it’s a great deal for $45, especially since we get to choose 3-5 of the items.

Reply ButtonReply

Tracy B

Darn it I really want those West Elm Indigo Bowla and it doesn’t look like I will get them. So sad!!
Did everyone else get what they wanted?

Reply ButtonReply

Cynthia

Keep refreshing as it gets closer to the end of the sale. I saw them pop up a few times so people are dropping them. I was able to grab them yesterday as I wanted a second set. Good luck and I hope you get everything you want!

Reply ButtonReply

Tracy B

Thank you Cynthia, I actually was able to snag 2 sets last night. Now I am after the Bamboo Cutting Boards… lol!

Kathy S

Bummed that I logged in for my customization and the scarf/cardigan and the copper containers are both sold out. They were my only choices from these categories. Cancelled. I will wait for another box that has items I like.

I’ve just signed up for Fabfitfun a week ago and just have read some comments which are leaving me concerned about add ons being charged when you didn’t order them. I’m wondering now if I should cancel my subscription.

Reply ButtonReply

shakingmyhead

My only advice is to take a screen shot of what you are purchasing before the sale ends. That way if you see that you are being charged more, you can prove what was in your cart. I have never had that problem.

Reply ButtonReply

Jeniferlyn

I just happened to double check my add ons. It wasn’t the $200-ish I expected-it was $3,000!!!!! Total shock. Things I would Never have clicked on.
Just be cautious.

Reply ButtonReply

Autum

Thanks ladies! I don’t ever really do add ons with any boxes I’ve subscribed to before so hopefully it won’t be an issue.

Chana

I’ve never been charged for add ons if I didn’t order them.

Sara

I am so indecisive I changed my mind a few times!!
I ended up with the canisters and then the backpack for $15, the scarfigan, and the necklace.
I had the backpack as my primary, and then when I couldn’t add the canisters I changed my primary to them and then added the backpack.
I am trying to figure out holiday gifts (yes, already – I am a TYPE A personality and am a pre-planner, yet incredibly afraid of making the wrong decision).
In the end, I am happy with my add-on, and decisions.

Reply ButtonReply

Tracy B

Bummer I really want the hair remover and the scarfigan. The additional items are not available for that category.

Reply ButtonReply

Amy G.

For the annual selection time, I went back a couple of times and categories where you couldn’t pick extras opened up as other people changed their minds and decided not to get extras, etc. By the end I think I could’ve gotten an extra in every category. So you might keep checking back.

Reply ButtonReply

Renee

FFF Chat said they had closed additional items in Customization #2 for seasonal to keep things from going out of stock as soon.
